After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 56

“She’s just not ready. She’s narrow-minded, unpolished. If you take her to any events, she’ll only embarrass you, and our whole family.”

Ethan didn’t even hesitate. “I’ll teach my wife myself. You don’t need to worry about it.”

“Just focus on Sophia. Don’t spoil her so much that she ruins her own reputation and can’t find a good husband. You’ll regret it if that happens.”

“Anything else, Mom? If not, I’m hanging up. My wife wants to visit her family this weekend, and I’m going with her.”

He ended the call before Jennifer could say another word.

Jennifer’s face tightened with frustration. She threw her phone onto the coffee table, where it slid dangerously close to the edge. Sophia, sitting across from her, caught it quickly.

She moved over to sit beside her mom, handing the phone back.

“See, Mom? I told you Isabella Lane is way too full of herself. She doesn’t even respect you. She probably already thinks she’ll be in charge of the Adams family soon.”

“Grandma is still here, and so are you. But Isabella is already treating me like this. If she ever really takes over, she’ll probably kick me out. Once I get married, she probably won’t even let me visit.”

Jennifer took a slow, deep breath to calm down. She reached over and poked Sophia’s forehead. “Honestly, you’re so spoiled. You do whatever you want.”

“I keep telling you, Ethan doesn’t like your friends. Stop bringing them around him all the time. If you annoy him too much, you’ll be the one who has to deal with it.”

“They grew up together. Even I can tell Ethan always looked out for her. If it wasn’t love, then what was it?” Sophia insisted, completely convinced that Ethan was in love with Natalie Gates.

“That’s just how it looks to us,” Jennifer replied. “Ethan might only see Natalie as a little sister. Childhood friends don’t always end up together. Sometimes their bond is more like family than romance.”

“If he really loved her, he would’ve gone head to head with Jordan. The Adams family is the most powerful around, way above the Lanes. And our business ties with the Gates family are even stronger.”

“If Ethan had made a move, he would’ve had a great chance. The Gates family would probably have supported him.”

Sophia just pouted again, mumbling something under her breath.
