After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 704

“Laura, is that handsome guy at your place Jesse?” Evelyn asked, catching Laura off guard.

Laura blinked in surprise. Her mom knew Jesse’s name.

She lowered her voice. “Mom, you know Jesse?”

“Of course I do. Our business has been booming lately, and it’s all thanks to Jesse working behind the scenes, connecting us with so many new clients. How could I not know?”

“At first, we all assumed Jesse was older. Then your brother did some digging and realized Jesse is his age, really young. Jesse’s family is a big deal too, with their own huge company.”

“People don’t just go out of their way for no reason. Your brother looked into it even more and found out Jesse likes you. He’s been helping our business because he’s interested in you.”

“Your dad and brother have been quietly checking out his character. Once they saw that he’s decent, we started accepting his help. We’re actually rooting for you two.”

Laura was silent for a second, then asked, “Mom, if you all already knew, why did you set me up on a blind date?”

“If we hadn’t, would you have been so quick to tell me about Jesse? When are you going to bring him home so we can meet him properly? You two are basically living together already…”

“Mom, we’re not living together,” Laura said quickly. “It’s just… I drank too much last night and he took care of me, that’s all. Nothing happened.”

“He never bragged about what he’s done, never tried to get credit with you, did he? Your dad and brother had to ask all around to find out it was Jesse helping us. Once they knew, your brother got even stricter about our products.”

“Every order we take, big or small, has to be top quality. Your brother says he doesn’t want to let Jesse down or drag you down either. If Jesse wasn’t a good person, we wouldn’t dare to accept his help. We’d be too worried we couldn’t ever pay him back.”

Laura was quiet again, then whispered, “Mom, I really will think about it.”

Evelyn’s tone softened. “Good. Take your time. If you and Jesse get along, then go for it. If not, don’t force yourself. Marriage is a big deal, it’s for life. You have to actually like the person you’re with.”

“And if you two only end up as friends, your dad has kept track of every deal Jesse sent our way. We’ll give him a ten percent commission for his referrals. If The Mason Group ever needs our help with anything, as long as it’s legal, we’ll do what we can. We’ll make sure we repay every favor he’s done for us.”
