After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 749

Life with the Lane family had never been easy for her. Jordan ignored her most of the time, and when he did pay attention, it was just to make her life harder. She’d thought about leaving so many times, but she’d always stayed for her mother. Now that her mom was finally out of the Lane family too, she could go back to her father’s last name. She could finally be herself.

“Of course I knew,” Harold said, a little smug. “She told me herself. That’s why I brought these flowers, to celebrate her changing her name back.”

Ethan didn’t even look at the bouquet. “I don’t care what she calls herself. She’s still my wife.”

“Seriously? You’re unbelievable,” Harold shot back. “You two are divorced. And you never even liked calling her your wife before.”

Nana hurried over, sensing trouble. “Gentlemen, why don’t you both have a seat over there and wait for Isabella?”

Ethan glared at Harold but walked over and claimed the best seat in the room, like he was staking his territory. Harold just shrugged and picked another chair, looking completely relaxed.

Nana poured them each a cup of tea.

“Thanks,” Harold said with a warm smile.

“You’re welcome, Harold.”

Ethan didn’t want to be outdone, so he muttered a quick thank you too.

But in real life, he hadn’t done all those terrible things. Sure, he’d hurt her before, but he could change. He was determined to fix his mistakes. He was serious about it. And this time, he wanted to spend his life with her and only her.

Harold shook his head. “Regret doesn’t fix anything. You can’t erase what you did just by saying sorry.”

“If you really want Isabella to be happy, Ethan, you should stay away from her. She’ll only find peace if you’re not around.”

Ethan’s voice was steady and stubborn. “I’m not leaving her. Not now. She’s not safe, and I can’t just walk away.”

Even if Isabella didn’t want anything to do with him, he couldn’t let her get hurt. He’d stay close, whether she liked it or not. Winning her back was one thing, but making sure she was safe was non-negotiable. After all, the trouble she was in now was all because of him.
