There was a long pause before Natalie finally spoke. “Ethan, Jeremy, I’ll be honest with you… I don’t really want to divorce Jordan.”
The real reason was simple. Ethan wouldn’t marry her. And if she left Jordan, there were hardly any men in all of Cabinda who were truly worthy of her—at least in terms of family, status, and money. The Lanes were one of the most powerful families in the city. She wasn’t about to settle for anything less.
Unless it was someone even better than the Lanes. But families like that were rare. The Adams family had a few eligible bachelors, but except for Ethan, none of them would ever fall for her. The White family was completely out of the question. Linda hated her, and if Linda hated someone, her brothers would never even consider marrying that person.
That only left the Carter and Mason families. But Harold was crazy about Isabella, and Jesse had always been into Laura. Besides, neither of them had ever liked her or Jordan.
No matter how she turned it over in her mind, Natalie just couldn’t bring herself to file for divorce. Not yet. She’d wait until she finished the job York had given her. Once that was done, she’d finally have the guts to ask Jordan for a divorce—especially if she managed to get Ethan to sleep with her. Then he’d have to step up and take responsibility. She’d end up even better off than she was with Jordan.
“Ethan, about earlier… I’m sorry,” she said, her voice soft. “I was just angry. Jordan betrayed me, and I lost it. I thought if he could do it, so could I.”
She glanced at him, guilt flickering in her eyes. “I didn’t think about your feelings. I’m really sorry.”
Ethan just shook his head. “It’s fine, Natalie. I’m glad you’ve cooled off. But honestly, we’re just friends. That’s all we can ever be.” He didn’t say it with any warmth. Just a quiet finality, a reminder that there were lines they couldn’t cross.
“If you don’t want to divorce Jordan, then you should talk to him. Really talk. I’m sure he just got caught up in something stupid. You’re the one he actually loves.”
Jeremy nodded quickly, agreeing.
“I’m just scared we’ll end up fighting again,” Natalie muttered.
She turned back to Ethan, almost pleading. “Couldn’t you talk to him for me? Please? I’ll send you the evidence I have—photos, messages, all of it. Maybe if you show him, he’ll tell you what he really wants.”
“Let your dad talk to him. He’s the only one who really has the authority.”
Natalie looked at Ethan, her expression almost desperate. “Ethan, are you really not going to help me? We’ve been friends for so many years. If you talk to him, he’ll listen—he’ll actually tell you the truth.”
But Ethan was firm. He wasn’t about to get dragged into her drama. He’d learned to say no to Natalie, even if it cost him.
Jeremy, of course, wouldn’t get involved. He wasn’t family, and he had no reason to stick his neck out for her.
After a while, Natalie finally gave up. She realized she couldn’t count on Ethan to fight her battles anymore.

The readers' comments on the novel: After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan)
Author, please get your characters names right. You always messing them up!...
I wish Harold will win Isabella's heart. I was so sad when Isabela was taken for granted coldly and cruelly by her supposed to be husband, and trapped, mocked and humiliated non stop by Natalie. This was so cruel, both don't deserve Isabela' forgiveness I wish for a happy ending between Isabela and Harold, he has the right to be happy after the long wait....
Frankly, the story initially was going quite good and the pacing was just right. unfortunately after Ethan got the dream of his past life, the story has been going in circles. Ethan's spouting the same nonsense every time he sees Isabella, they both have same conversations over and over. The authors monologue too has been the same for almost 400 chapters. Irrespective of which character the writing the just a repetition of what someone had gone through in the past and what made a certain character feel the emotions. York got introduced in 800 chapters yet nothing significant happened till date. Isabella is soft with Harold and kind of disgusted with Ethan, yet it is not entirely clear with whom she might end up. If she stays single i am fine with it but the story is clearly about Isabella and Ethan so almost 1000 chapters without seeing any progress in their relationship is frustrating. Except for being blindly in love and few aggressive instances with Isabella, Ethan actually isnt a bad person so i am fine if he can win her back. Even though Harold is coming off as a good second lead, i am somehow unable to warm upto him. Even the bad people in the story are not really facing any real consequences. I hate Jackson for his hypocrisy. I hate Jordan and Natalie for their self-righteouness and selfishness. I also hate Deborah, except when she is handing it out to Natalie. I am almost on the verge of dropping this story....
Why are they acting like kids 🤣😭...
Ethan is actually not that bad if we take out his blind love for Natalie...
