After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 891

Natalie sipped her grape water, but sitting around was driving her crazy. She stood up and wandered through the office, eventually stopping in front of Isabella’s door. She tried the handle, only to find it locked.

She turned to Nana and asked, “Why is this door locked? Do you have a key? Let me in. I’ll just wait for Isabella inside.”

Nana shook her head. “Sorry, Natalie, but when Isabella isn’t here, her office always stays locked. We’re not allowed to open it without her say-so.”

Nana did have the key, but there was no way she was letting Natalie in. Everyone knew Natalie was Isabella’s biggest rival. Who could say what she’d do if left alone in that office? Isabella kept all sorts of important stuff in there. Her computer was full of scripts for their latest drama projects, and if Natalie got her hands on them, she could delete everything. There were contract files too. If anything got ruined, the company would be in real trouble.

So basically, when Isabella was out, the general manager’s door stayed shut. No exceptions.

“I’m her sister-in-law!” Natalie said, trying to throw her weight around.

Nana replied, her voice calm but firm. “Isabella’s mom isn’t connected to the Lane family anymore. So you’re not really Isabella’s sister-in-law, are you?”

She knew exactly what Natalie was up to.

Natalie’s face darkened. She glared at Nana, but Nana just looked back, completely unfazed.

After a few seconds, Natalie managed to swallow her anger. She walked over to Nana’s desk and leaned in, trying a different tactic. “How long have you been working here? Not long, right? Isabella’s company is pretty new.”

Nana didn’t hesitate. “Thanks, but I’m happy here. I’m not looking to switch jobs.”

She knew exactly what was going on. Natalie didn’t actually value her; she just wanted to steal Isabella’s people to cause trouble. If Nana really did quit and try to work for Natalie, she probably wouldn’t even get hired. She’d end up with nothing.

Nana wasn’t stupid. The most important thing was that she felt good where she was.

Sure, she was only a secretary, but Isabella was a great boss. She treated everyone with respect, never yelled if someone messed up, and always took the time to explain things calmly. She just wanted her team to learn and improve. That was worth more than any promise Natalie could make.
