“Honey, how could you even think that about me? We’ve been together for so many years. You’re the only one I’ve ever loved. That’s never changed.”
Jordan’s heart was racing, but he kept his cool on the outside. If he let any panic show, Natalie would only become more suspicious.
Natalie stared at him, searching his face for the truth. She used to believe him when he said he loved her, but now, after what she’d seen and heard herself, she knew he was lying. He claimed to love her, but he was sleeping with Malvina. The worst part was, he always said he hated his dad for cheating, that it hurt both him and Cynthia. Now he was doing the same thing. Did he ever think about how much it would hurt her? Did he really think she’d be okay?
“Honey, why are you looking at me like that? Do you really think I’d lie to you? We’ve known each other since we were kids. Childhood friends, remember? Don’t you trust me at all?”
“I love you so much. I could never cheat on you. Malvina and I were just talking about work, I swear. It was company business, so I had to lock the door. I didn’t want anyone to overhear.”
“Jordan, you don’t need to explain so much. Just move, I’ll tidy up the bed for you. The sheets are all over the place... and honestly, I think they smell a bit. Let me take them to wash,” Natalie said, stepping forward again, reaching for the covers.
“Natalie.”
Just as she got to the bed, Jordan grabbed her from behind, arms tight around her waist.
“Natalie, I’ll clean up. You don’t need to do anything. When I married you, I promised you wouldn’t have to lift a finger at home. I want you to live like a queen.”
“Didn’t you need to go to the bathroom? Go ahead. Dad and Gilbert are still waiting for us outside.”
Natalie tried to pry his hands off her waist.
“Jordan, you’re acting guilty. You won’t let me help because you’re scared I’ll find something, right? I’m not stupid, Jordan. I know what goes on between a man and a woman.”
“This room smells different the second you walk in. Do you really think I’m that clueless?”
“Let me go.”
“Natalie!”
