“You called Dad and Gilbert over, didn’t you? The door was locked. You could’ve just knocked, you know.”
“You had them come and kick down my door, and look at what happened. My secretary got hurt. If she ends up with internal injuries, you’ll have to pay her hospital bills.”
Natalie let out a cold little laugh. She stood up suddenly and headed straight for the break room.
Jordan’s eyes darted in panic. He jumped up and hurried after her, grabbing her arm, trying to sound calm. “Babe, what’s wrong? Are you mad that I locked the office door when I was talking with Malvina?”
“It was about a business secret. We couldn’t risk anyone overhearing. The door was locked for security, that’s seriously all it was.”
Natalie’s dad and brother exchanged glances, both picking up on the tension in the room.
Jordan was lying, and it showed. He was nervous, scared.
Fitzgerald remembered his wife telling him once, quietly, that she’d heard rumors about Jordan cheating. When she’d asked Natalie, their daughter just brushed it off and said it was a misunderstanding.
But what if it was true? Was Jordan actually cheating? With his secretary?
“Jordan, Natalie, come over here,” Fitzgerald said, pulling out his fatherly authority.
Jordan reached for Natalie’s hand, trying to pull her along, but she shook him off. “Why are you so jumpy, Jordan? I just want to use the restroom in your break room.”
“I’m not jumpy, I just didn’t want you to get the wrong idea. If you need the restroom, I’ll go in with you.”
“I don’t need you to come with me.”
Natalie started walking toward the break room again.
Jordan was close to freaking out. The bed in his break room was still a total mess.
If Natalie saw it, they’d definitely have a fight.
