Chapter 48
Elle’s POV
Before I could respond, Brad’s voice cut through the room like ice. “That’s not necessary!”
His tone was final, leaving no room for discussion. Brad barely glanced at me as he headed toward the
door.

“Elle needs rest,” he said coldly.
As Alex nodded and stepped out, something clicked in my mind. Raymond Carter. The name sounded eerily
familiar, and a flash of memory surfaced-the man who had rear-ended my car and mistaken me for
someone named Dakota.
After Brad left, I sank back against the pillows, feeling oddly relieved.
Well. I never wanted to see those reckless assholes anyway. That whole Carter crew-all of them were just
shitty drivers. They really should learn to watch the damn road.
Still, I couldn’t help wondering why Brad seemed to despise Carter so much.
Then I heard the sound of my phone ringing. I reached for it.
“Hello?” I answered cautiously.
“Is this Elle West?” A deep, accented male voice came through the line.
“Yes, who’s calling?”
“This is Otto, Alpha of the Steel Forest Pack.”
I sat up straight, suddenly wide awake. “Alpha Otto? 1-m honored by your call.”
“My Luna has told me everything,” he said, his voice wam despite its natural authority, “I am personally
calling to express my deepest gratitude.”
“That’s really not necessary,” I stammered. “I just reacte instinctively.”
“Such instincts speak highly of your character,” Otto replied. “As it happens, our pack’s medical advisor is currently in Moonshade Bay. If you permit, I would like to bring him to examine you personally. It’s the

least I can offer in return for your brave act.”
“Alpha Otto,” I said carefully, “please don’t feel obligated. Anyone would have done the same, werewolf or
human.”
“I insist,” he replied firmly. “Will you allow us this small gesture of thanks?”
An hour later, I heard a commotion outside my hospital room. Curious, I slid out of bed and peeked
through the door crack. What I saw left me stunned.
The hospital director himself stood at attention by the elevator. A red carpet had been hastily laid down
the hallway, with human nurses and doctors lined up on either side like an honor guard. Then the elevator doors opened, and Alpha Otto emerged, towering and regal, followed by his Luna Ada and an elderly man
with silver hair who I assumed was their medical advisor.
The display of deference was unlike anything I’d seen before. Even in a regular hospital, not owned by the Rayne family, the arrival of a foreign Alpha commanded this level of respect. I quickly scrambled back to bed, smoothing my hair and hospital gown as best I could.
A gentle knock came at the door before it opened. Luna Ada entered first, her eyes lighting up when she saw me. Without hesitation, she rushed forward and embraced me gently.
“Sweet girl,” she said, her German accent more pronounced with emotion. “What a terrible day you’ve had! But thank the moon goddess you weren’t seriously hurt
Her hands framed my face with maternal tenderness, her eyes scanning me for injuries. The genuine concern in her expression made my throat tighten unexpectedly.
Then we sat around my hospital bed, the conversation flowing with surprising ease. I shared some of my amusing experiences in Moonshade Bay while Luna Ada told stories about their home in Germany.
I must have fallen asleep after they left because when I woke up, it was already eight in the evening. My stomach growled loudly, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten since morning. I wondered if the hospital cafeteria was still open or if I’d have to make do with whatever snacks might be in the vending machines.
Just as I was about to get up, a knock came at the door. Two women in chef uniforms wheeled in a food cart, and my jaw dropped at the sight.
They efficiently set up a small dining table with a white tablecloth and proceeded to arrange at least

twenty different dishes-each portion small but exquisitely presented. There were various proteins, from
rare steak to grilled chicken, steamed fish to roasted lamb, all arranged artistically alongside colorful
vegetables and sauces.
“What is all this?” I asked in bewilderment. “This isn’t the standard hospital food, is it?”
One of the chefs smiled. “Alpha’s orders, ma’am. He wanted to ensure you had proper nutrition.”
I stared at the feast before me, feeling both grateful and overwhelmed. As I sampled the dishes-each more
delicious than the last-I couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of my situation. Here I was, a human girl
from the poorest district, eating like a queen in a hospital room.
I was halfway through my meal when both chefs suddenly straightened, their eyes widening. “Alpha,” they
whispered in unison.
Brad stood in the doorway, looking tired but imposing as ever. A staff member appeared with a hot towel
for him to clean his hands before he strode to the table
Alex pulled out a chair for him across from me, and Brad sat down without a word.
After dinner, I suggested a walk. Brad agreed.
The night air was cool against my skin as we walked outside the hospital. Brad stayed close behind me, his presence both reassuring and unnerving. Alex followed at a discreet distance, ever the silent shadow.
When we reached a small garden area, I stopped and turned to face Brad. He moved to stand beside me, his
tall frame blocking the wind.
“We’ve secured a ten-year alliance with the Steel Forest Pack,” he said, his deep voice matter-of-fact. “The contract will bring several billion in profit annually to Rayne Group.”
I blinked, surprised by this business update. “That’s… good news?”
“Luna Ada asked me to thank you again,” Brad said, his one softening slightly. “She mentioned that she regrets not being able to visit the beautiful places you told her about. She hopes you’ll be her guide next
time she visits Moonshade Bay.”
I stared at my feet, feeling strangely deflated. “Next time? There probably won’t be a next time for me. Once this baby is born, our arrangement will be over…”
Brad ignored my comment completely. “My grandmother was pleased with the reports about what you did,”

he said instead. “She’s decided you may return to the human district in three days to see your mother.”
My head snapped up, hope surging through me like electricity. “Really? I can go home?”
Brad looked down at me, his expression softening as he met my gaze.
Without thinking, I grabbed his hand, squeezing it in excitement. “Do you mean it? I can really go back?”

Not sure how the story ended without completing the circle on what happened to Sophia and Lester. That loop was just left hanging... what happened with the Blair contract of having to married Raymond? All Eleanor wanted was a piece of Rayne industries?...
