Chapter 119
Louisa had reached her breaking point. Tears rolled down her face like broken strings of pearls. She wiped them away roughly with the back of her hand, but they kept coming, impossible to stop.
Seeing her like this tore at George’s heart. “Honey, please don’t cry. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have forced you. I never meant to treat you this way–I just can’t bear losing you.”
Can’t bear losing her? Louisa’s crying gave way to bitter laughter. If he couldn’t bear losing her, why cheat?
If he couldn’t bear losing her, why hurt her time and again?
George was frightened by her tears. She had never cried before–the only time he’d seen her cry was in that
video from her depression.
Now, her tears seemed beyond control, as if all her pent–up pain was pouring out at once.
His heart twisted. His earlier desires faded, replaced by a desperate need to stop her tears. He reached out to wipe them away, but she turned her head, refusing his touch.
“What will it take for you to forgive me?” his voice rasped.
Keep dreaming! Louisa thought, but didn’t speak.
After a long while, her sobbing finally subsided. “I’m hungry,” she said hoarsely.
George brightened when she finally spoke to him, but his joy quickly turned to worry. Where could he find food in this wilderness? The car was out of gas, the engine dead.
Seeing his hesitation, Louisa said, “Afraid I’ll run? My leg was already injured, and now you’ve made it worse. I can’t take a single step.”
Her words pierced his heart. He offered no explanation, just said, “I–I’ll check if there’s a convenience store or farmhouse nearby. Wait in the car.”
Louisa murmured agreement.
George got out and locked the door. Checking his phone’s map, he found a small shop about half an hour’s walk away. The round trip would take over an hour.
He considered having food delivered, but couldn’t find contact information for the store, and all delivery services were out of range. He’d have to go himself–a consequence of his own actions.

Chapter 119
Louisa watched his figure disappear into the darkness.

Though night had fully fallen, she didn’t hesitate. She immediately climbed into the back seat, folded down the seats, crawled into the trunk, and escaped through the emergency release.
Her movements were fluid, as if she’d practiced a thousand times.
Her leg injury was severe, but she’d rather endure the pain than spend another minute with George.
To avoid running into him on his return, she deliberately chose the opposite direction, sending her location and messages to her friends‘ group chat, hoping someone nearby could pick her up.
Fortunately, Flora was relatively close–about an hour away. Sadie was much farther, needing six hours to
reach her.
Louisa knew better than to wander alone in this remote area. Besides potential dangers, her leg truly couldn’t carry her much further.
About fifteen minutes later, using her phone’s flashlight, she spotted a massive boulder large enough to
conceal her.
She hid behind it, waiting quietly. Occasionally she looked up at the rustling leaves and the starlight filtering through them, feeling both bitter and pathetic. How had she ended up in this situation?
About ten minutes later, she heard footsteps approaching. Who could it be? Her heart leapt into her throat.
Flora? Impossible–she couldn’t arrive this quickly.
A passerby? But the footsteps were coming closer, and there was no path in her direction.
George? How could he know she’d run in this direction, let alone that she was hiding behind this particular
boulder?
Perhaps it was the man who had called out earlier? Had he been watching her, following her?
The thought made her even more anxious, especially as the footsteps drew nearer. She pressed herself against the rock, peering out cautiously. A pair of long legs appeared in her line of sight.
Before she could react, a hand tapped the top of her head. She screamed and tried to run, ignoring the pain in her leg.
“Why are you running?” A familiar voice, tinged with resignation.

Julian? Louisa froze.
She shone her phone light upward, illuminating a handsome face. Her miserable expression instantly brightened, her eyes lighting up. “Mr. Tudor? What are you doing here?”
“Just passing by.”

Louisa fell silent. Passing by this remote area in the middle of the night? How much free time did he have?
Though she had wondered many times if he would rescue her again, she had dismissed the possibility each time. She didn’t think he would even know she was in trouble.
Yet here he was, appearing like a guardian angel just as he had every other time she’d been in danger. She would never understand how he always arrived so perfectly timed.
Julian glanced at her leg. “Doesn’t your leg hurt?”
“It does.” She didn’t realize how pitiful her tone sounded, with just a hint of neediness.
Julian sighed silently. He stepped onto the rock, lifted her up, and placed her on his leg so she could sit.
In the quiet night, a rumbling sound broke the silence–her stomach expressing its hunger.
Julian looked down at her. “Hungry?”
“Yes.” She nodded pitifully. “I want your cream of mushroom soup.”
“You think that’s possible?”
“No.” She answered his questions directly.
But in the next moment, a package of cookies appeared before her–pulled from his pocket. Louisa’s eyes lit
She immediately tore open the packaging and began eating with relish. She swore these were the best cookies she’d ever tasted, even if they made her throat dry.
“If only I had some water…”
“Quite demanding, aren’t you?” Julian chuckled, freeing one hand to reach into his pocket. And miraculously, a bottle of water appeared.

He twisted the cap open with one hand and offered it to her. “Here.”
Louisa took two big gulps, feeling instantly refreshed. She looked at him. “Mr. Tudor, why do you everything in your pockets? Are you Shaggy from Scooby–Doo?”
Without thinking, she reached for his pocket, curious to see what else he might have.

But in the darkness, she couldn’t see anything, let alone find his pocket. As she fumbled around, her hand touched something unexpected…
Julian’s voice suddenly cut through the night, tightly controlled. “Louisa!”
