Chapter 307
Louisa was speechless at his flirtatious tone. When was she angry? Why did Julian always say these ambiguous things that led to
misunderstandings?
With no other choice, she put on her mask and went with the two men. At the entrance, Julian’s phone rang again. He stepped aside to
take the call, telling Nicholas and Louisa to go in first.
Inside the private room, Louisa saw two men sitting together. One was Gareth, whom she’d just met. The other she didn’t recognize–a
man in his fifties with a full head of hair and no beer belly. He was well–groomed with an imposing presence, and his features somewhat
resembled Julian’s. This must be Julian’s father, William.
Louisa greeted them politely. “Hello, Mr. Tudor, Mr. Getty.”
William nodded and motioned to her. “Louisa, right? Come sit down.”
Before Louisa could thank him, Gareth pulled out the chair next to him. “Ms. Forbes, sit here. I have some questions I’d like to discuss
with you.”
He still couldn’t shake the feeling that she looked familiar–those eyes were so much like Melinda’s.
Little did he know, his invitation only irritated Louisa. Though his words were innocent enough, Louisa knew what Gareth had done to Nicholas’s family. Here was a ruthless man pretending to be kind and friendly.
Though she didn’t fully understand her own anger, she didn’t bother hiding it. “That’s very kind of you, Mr. Getty, but I’m just an
employee. I’ll stand, thank you.”
Gareth started to speak again, but Nicholas grabbed the chair’s backrest, pulled it out, and plopped himself down. He greeted William across the table: “Mr. Tudor, long time no see. You’re looking more handsome with age.”
William grunted, not wanting to engage with him.
Nicholas didn’t seem bothered. He turned to Gareth with a smirk. “Uncle Gareth, you must have a lot of free time to be flirting with young
women. Business slow at home?”
The passive–aggressive comment made Gareth want to punch him. “How am I flirting with anyone?”
Nicholas continued his sarcastic banter. Louisa watched, Impressed by Nicholas’s restraint. Despite his seemingly bad temper, he could act
casual in front of the man who had killed his father.
After a few exchanges, Gareth was too annoyed to continue. He turned back to Louisa, putting on a friendly face again. “Ms. Forbes, don’t just stand there. Please, sit down.”
“I’m waiting for Julian,” Louisa replied. As Julian’s assistant, waiting for her boss was perfectly reasonable.

Gareth dropped it and asked instead, “How old are you, may I ask?”

Louisa thought: Who asks someone’s age when they’ve just met? How rude.‘ But not wanting to cause trouble for Julian, she answered,
“I’m 27.”
Gareth frowned. Twenty–seven? If Melinda and Oliver’s daughter were still alive, she’d be 27 too. Same age, and those eerily similar eyes….
Could it be coincidence?
Deeply unsettled, Gareth desperately wanted to see Louisa’s full face. He stared at her intently. “Why are you wearing a mask? We’re about
to eat. Why don’t you take it off?”
“I’ve got some acne lately, Louisa replied. “I’ll keep the mask on so I don’t ruin your appetite.”
Gareth laughed. “You’re too modest. With eyes as beautiful as yours, I’m sure a few pimples won’t scare us away.”
Louisa remained unmoved. “Thank you for your concern, but Julian doesn’t want to see my acne–covered face, so I’d better keep it on.”
A complete lie, but she had no choice but to blame Julian. After all, he was the one who told her to wear the mask.
Gareth was out of ideas. He looked to William for help. “William, why are young people so stubborn these days? Say something to her.”
William gave Gareth a flat look. “If she doesn’t want to take it off, leave her be. Don’t push it.”
Though he wondered when his son had become so demanding of his staff, William generally didn’t use his power to pressure people. He respected even his subordinates and wouldn’t force Louisa.
Unable to pursue that topic further, Gareth tried another angle. “Ms. Forbes, you must be quite busy as Julian’s assistant. Do you have a
boyfriend?”
Louisa went silent. First her age, now her personal life? Would it ever end? She decided not to respond at all.
William gave Gareth another strange look. Was Gareth interested in Louisa?
Nicholas looked at Gareth with a cold glint in his eyes, though his words were light. “Uncle Gareth, whether she has a boyfriend or not,
she’s Julian’s right–hand woman. Are you trying to poach Julian’s talent?”
Gareth kicked him under the table. “Don’t be ridiculous. You’re over thirty and still single–I’m just trying to help you out!”
He turned to Louisa. “Don’t misunderstand, Ms. Forbes. I didn’t mean anything by it. This guy- he pointed at Nicholas, “my nephew, he’s still single. I was wondering if you might be interested?”
Louisa smiled faintly. “You’re joking, Mr. Getty. Nicholas is the CEO of the Getty Group, while I’m just a divorced woman. I’m not good
enough for him, so please stop teasing me.”

She acknowledged her marital history openly–not just for Gareth’s benefit, but for William’s too. She was telling these powerful men that she knew her place and had no inappropriate intentions toward anyone. They needn’t worry.
Her statement successfully silenced the room.
Gareth looked awkward, unable to continue the conversation. William studied Louisa with a meaningful gaze. Nicholas said nothing, sipping his tea, though a flash of pain crossed his eyes. His sister had been hurt so deeply.
Julian chose that moment to enter the room. Not too early, not too late–he’d heard Louisa’s last statement perfectly.
