Louisa, who had been too hungry to speak, instantly brightened when Julian handed her the bag. Her eyes lit up like stars. “Is that pecan

pie?”

She looked at Julian with delight. “Is this for me?”

“Yeah,” Julian replied. “You’ve probably cursed me a hundred times in your head for not letting you eat lunch.”

Louisa mumbled, “Not quite that many.”

Julian made an exasperated sound. “Eat it in the car.”

“Thanks, Julian.”

Louisa took the bag and got in the car. Julian followed, and Satan came last, settling down by Julian’s feet.

Louisa took a satisfied bite of pecan pie. It was delicious–pure bliss. She wanted to ask how Julian knew she loved pecan pie, but worried

he might say something unsettling, so she kept quiet.

Soon Teddy returned carrying a cup of iced tea. Clearly, he and Julian hadn’t come from the same place. The restaurant served pecan pie, which Julian had gotten packaged for her. Teddy had bought the tea elsewhere.

Julian took the cup and frowned at the cold sensation. “Why is it cold?”

Teddy looked startled. “I thought… don’t girls like cold drinks?”

Julian gave him a cool look. “You’re quite the expert on girls, aren’t you? Go get a warm one.”

Louisa had a sensitive stomach, and Julian didn’t want her drinking something cold.

Realizing the tea was also for her, Louisa stopped Teddy before he could leave. She took the iced tea and said to Julian, ‘I’ll drink this.

Thanks, Julian. Thanks, Teddy.”

She put in a straw and took a sip. Pecan pie with tea–absolute perfection.

Seeing this, Julian dropped the matter. “Let’s go,” he told Noah.

“Right away, Noah replied, starting the car.

Louisa held the iced tea in one hand and balanced the pecan pie on her lap to continue eating. Unexpectedly, Julian took her tea away.

She looked at him. “Julian, I can hold it myself.”

He was her boss–she couldn’t let him hold things for her.

“It’s quite cold,” Julian remarked.

Louisa was confused by this comment. “Won’t it be cold for you too?”

Julian nodded. “Good point.”

He placed the cup in the armrest holder, then extended his elegant hand toward her. “Warm it up for me.”

In the front seats, Teddy and Noah overheard this and nearly popped their eyes out. Holding hands to warm up in hot weather? Could

they be any more obvious about flirting?

Louisa nearly choked on her pie. “That’s… that’s not appropriate,” she stammered.

Julian didn’t push it. He casually withdrew his hand. “You’re right, it’s not appropriate. After all, we don’t have an official relationship

yet.”

Louisa was genuinely shocked and coughed several times.

Julian gently patted her back, suppressing a laugh. “Why so excited?”

Louisa remained silent. Who was excited? She was terrified! These out–of–character comments were seriously alarming.

In the front, Noah and Teddy kept exchanging knowing smiles. Their boss was getting better and better at flirting. How much longer could

Louisa hold out?

Louisa felt increasingly desperate to change the subject and end this awkward flirtation. But what topic could she switch to?

Looking down, she spotted Satan. The dog showed no interest in human affairs, lazily nestled against Julian with its head resting on his

leg.

“Why did Nicholas give you a dog?” she asked.

Nicholas had mentioned a surprise before leaving–this must have been it.

“That story goes back to its grandfather,” Julian replied.

“Please, tell me all about it,” Louisa encouraged. Hopefully the story would last until they reached the office.

“Its grandfather was named Zeus,” Julian began. “Oliver Getty rescued him from a dog trader when Zeus was nearly dead. After that, Zeus

stayed with Oliver and proved incredibly loyal.

“Later, Zeus had a son named Ares. Ares grew up with Nicholas and became his protector. Over the years, Nicholas faced many setups and traps. Ares saved his life several times.

“Satan is Ares‘ son, born recently–not even a year old yet.”

Though the story could have been long, Julian summarized it in less than two minutes.

Louisa was touched nonetheless. She rubbed Satan’s head. “Three generations of loyal dogs.”

She looked at Julian. “Nicholas must really care about you to give you such a precious dog. True love right there.”

Julian made a dismissive sound, but his gaze held deeper meaning.

He didn’t tell her that Nicholas had sent Satan to protect her. Satan was a highly intelligent dog. His reaction to Louisa happened because

Nicholas had shown him her photos during professional training sessions.

That’s why Satan’s behavior toward her was indeed one of recognizing his master.

With the Satan story finished, Louisa remembered another question–about the mask.

“Julian, why did you make me wear a mask today?”

She couldn’t figure out the reasoning behind it.

Initially, she’d thought it might be related to the rumors about her and Julian. Perhaps Julian worried his father would recognize her and

cause complications.

But after meeting William, she dismissed that theory. Julian didn’t seem concerned about his father at all.

That left only one person: Gareth.

She looked at Julian questioningly. “You didn’t want Gareth to see my face, right?”

Julian tapped her nose lightly. “Pretty clever. You figured that out?”

Louisa was even more confused. “But why? Why didn’t you want him to see me?”
