Julian didn’t immediately answer Louisa’s question. Instead, he posed one of his own: “Do you know why Nicholas wants to claim you as
his sister?”
‘I didn’t know before,” Louisa replied. “But after hearing your conversation today, I think I understand. Is it because I look like his deceased mother? When he sees me, he’s reminded of his poor sister, so he wants to make me his sister?”
“Very clever,” Julian said approvingly, ruffling her hair.
Louisa continued her deduction: “So you had me wear a mask because I resemble Nicholas’s mother? But why? You said yourself that there are many people who look alike. Why should I be afraid of Gareth seeing me?”
“There’s something you don’t know,” Julian explained.
He didn’t hold back. He told Louisa about Gareth’s feelings for his brother’s wife.
No one could have predicted that Gareth–who murdered his own brother to seize his business and harbored inappropriate feelings for his
sister–in–law–could be so obsessed with a woman.
For years, whenever he encountered someone who resembled Melinda, Gareth would try every means to possess them.
But was that really love?
Having experienced a failed marriage, Louisa understood men’s flaws all too well. She laughed coldly. “If he truly loved her, he wouldn’t
have driven her to suicide.
“At the end of the day, it’s just a man’s ridiculous possessiveness. Because he never had her, he’s obsessed. If he’d actually gotten what he wanted, Gareth probably wouldn’t be so fixated.”
She looked at Julian. “So you didn’t want Gareth to see me because you were afraid he might develop some kind of interest in me?*
“Something like that,” Julian replied.
“Something like that?” Louisa echoed. So that wasn’t the whole reason?
More questions filled her mind. Even if she resembled Melinda, and even if Gareth developed an interest in her–if she refused him, what could he possibly do?
And if Gareth could see the resemblance just from her eyes, how would a mask solve anything?
This solution didn’t seem like Julian’s usual style. If Gareth was determined to investigate, her face would be revealed soon enough, and
Julian couldn’t prevent that.

Louisa wanted to ask more, but they had already driven into the underground garage at Cozy Community
“Aren’t we going back to the office?‘ she asked, puzzled.
It was only a little after two–they still had work in the afternoon, right?
Julian gestured toward Satan, ‘You need to get him settled first. Come on, let’s go home,”
Louisa swallowed her questions and followed Julian and the dog home,
Meanwhile, at the Tudor Group headquarters, in the chairman’s office,
Gareth and William sat together over tea.
William’s tea was already brewed and cooling, but Gareth hadn’t taken a sip. He was busy typing messages on his phone.
William tapped his knuckles on the table, “What are you doing? Don’t tell me you’re having someone investigate Louisa?”
William had guessed correctly. Gareth hadn’t given up and was arranging for someone to look into Louisa’s background.
Caught red–handed, Gareth smiled awkwardly. “What’s wrong with checking her out? Why are you so nervous about it?”
William gave him a suspicious look. “So you really are interested in Louisa? Don’t forget, she’s only in her twenties–over twenty years younger than you. If you’re having inappropriate thoughts, you’re no better than an animal.”
These two–nephew and uncle–one after his son, the other after his future daughter–in–law. William wanted to package them up and
throw them into the ocean.
Gareth was speechless. “What are you thinking? Am I that kind of monster?‘
‘Haven’t you done enough monstrous things? William shot back mercilessly.
Gareth explained, “I just want to see what the girl really looks like. Her eyes are so similar to Melinda’s. I want to know if she resembles
Melinda in other ways too.”
“And then what?‘ William asked. “If she does look like Melinda, what will you do?‘
Gareth fell silent. The question stumped him. Honestly, he didn’t know.
In recent years, he had restrained himself considerably, becoming less obsessive. But today, seeing Louisa sparked an urgent desire to see
her true face.

Chapter 312
Beyond her resemblance to Melinda, there was another reason–an important one.
He feared that Melinda’s daughter might not be dead after all.
If true, if Melinda’s daughter had really returned and learned what happened all those years ago, she would surely seek revenge for her
parents.
If that outcome was inevitable, he might as well strike first and eliminate the girl.
But he had seen how protective Julian was of her today.
Dealing with her wouldn’t be easy. Julian was even more cunning than his father, William. Unless absolutely necessary, Gareth couldn’t
afford to offend him.
Meanwhile, Julian and Louisa arrived home with Satan.
As soon as Louisa opened her door, Satan strutted right in like he owned the place.
Was this dog always so at home everywhere?
Louisa didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Since her divorce from George, she had grown accustomed to living alone. Now, with another living being suddenly in her space, she
wasn’t sure if she could adjust.
It worried her a little.
Julian seemed to read her thoughts. He smiled slightly and leaned close to her ear. “You’ll get used to it.”
His words carried a double meaning.
Louisa understood and blushed.
Julian gently ruffled her hair, his smile affectionate. “Be good. Go rest at home. If you need to go out, let me know,”
‘We’re not going back to the office?” she asked.
‘Not today.”
They each returned to their own apartments.
As soon as Julian closed his door, the tenderness and smile vanished from his eyes. He asked Teddy, ‘Did you take care of everything I

“All done, Teddy replied. “I just received word that Gareth is indeed investigating Louisa. Fortunately, you made arrangements in advance. Even if Gareth sees Louisa’s true face, he won’t be able to trace her background.”
Teddy frowned, looking at Julian. “Mr. Tudor, are you really certain that Louisa is the Getty family’s long–lost daughter? Nicholas’s biological sister?”
