Chapter 367
Julian smiled, closed his laptop, and pulled Louisa onto his lap.
Only then did he say slowly: “It’s time to put you in charge of the Investment Department.”
Louisa nearly jumped.
She’d been about to climb off his lap, but hearing this, she forgot all about moving.
She looked up at him. ‘You’re joking, right?”
Julian: “What, you don’t want a promotion?”
Louisa hesitated. ‘It’s not that, it’s just… isn’t it too fast?”
She’d only been at the Tudor Group for a month – not even quite a month yet.
Three promotions in a row?
If she went up again, that would be the director position, right?
What about the current director, Teresa?

Julian seemed to read her thoughts and said matter–of–factly: “She was planted there by my mother. I hadn’t returned to the Tudor Group yet when she was hired. I didn’t fire her later because there wasn’t a suitable replacement.
His tone was cool and indifferent, as if Teresa were completely inconsequential.
Louisa paused. “Since she’s someone your mother put there, if you replace her, your mother definitely won’t agree.”
She had no desire to go to war with his mother.
Julian: “Teresa has limited abilities. Giving her a position is fine, but management roles should go to the most capable. With her in that position, all she does is stifle your talent. She serves no purpose. Replacing her is just a matter of time.”
Louisa fell silent.
She didn’t know what to say.
Anyway, Julian was the boss. He could do whatever he wanted.
She just didn’t want to get dragged into battles between him and his family.
Julian looked down at her. ‘I promise I won’t let it affect you. Okay?”
That gentle tone nearly made Teddy, driving up front, swoon. His boss really was head over heels for Louisa – even giving her a promotion required
consultation.
Louisa stayed quiet, playing with his fingers.

After a long while, she finally said, ‘Actually, I think things are pretty good as they are. Promotion or not doesn’t really matter.”
Though she was currently Deputy Director, Julian had given her full director–level authority. She could handle any project she wanted, and her bonuses
weren’t reduced.
Even for projects she helped subordinates complete, Julian sent bonuses along with her salary under his personal name.
Her team members all treated her with respect.
There wasn’t much difference between being Deputy Director and full Director.
If they really replaced Teresa, wouldn’t that mean the war between her and Teresa was officially declared?
Julian watched her for a moment, understanding. She didn’t care about the promotion itself – she just didn’t want direct conflict with Teresa.
Because behind Teresa stood the Tudor family.
War with Teresa meant confronting the entire Tudor family.
Julian wasn’t in a hurry. He spoke slowly, reasoning with her: “From my perspective, I don’t want to promote you either. It’ll be exhausting. But from your standpoint, your talent, your brilliance – they shouldn’t be buried by anyone. Not George, not me, and certainly not Teresa. So don’t worry. Replacing Teresa won’t bring trouble down on you. If my mother disagrees, my father will handle her.”
Louisa was surprised. “Your father already knows?”
Julian nodded.
William wasn’t just watching romantic drama – he watched the big picture of the Tudor Group.
Promoting Louisa benefited the Tudor Group. Of course, William wouldn’t object.
But what if William and Adeline fought over this? Wouldn’t Adeline hate her even more?
Louisa hesitated. ‘Can your father convince your mother?”
She’d heard William and Adeline had a wonderful relationship – thirty years strong.
Julian raised an eyebrow, drawling lazily: “Hard to say. After all, Tudor men are traditionally henpecked. It runs in the family.”
Louisa fell silent.
That was clearly a joke.
Julian: “If he can’t convince her, and 1, the dignified President of the Tudor Group, don’t even have the authority to replace a director, then there’s no point in being president. I’ll resign. We’ll both leave the Tudor Group and open a mom–and–pop shop together. How’s that sound?”
Teddy, driving up front, heard this and slammed on the brakes in shock.
Julian quickly shielded Louisa in his arms, shooting Teddy a warning look through the rearview mirror. “Stop eavesdropping and drive properly.”

Yes, yes, yes.”
Teddy quickly responded. ‘I’ll drive carefully. Can’t be careless- if something happens, the world will lose a future mom–and–pop shop
Julian and Louisa fell silent.
Louisa hadn’t expected Julian to say something like that.
She remembered when she’d first joined the Capulet Group – she’d had so many ideas.
But every time, George had vetoed them.
He’d always told her to just focus on doing well at the Capulet Group, not to think about other things. As long as the Capulet Group’s performance improved, his parents would change their view of her.
Later, even when she had ideas, she rarely shared them.
Over time, she’d stopped even thinking them up.
People like George and Julian – groomed from childhood as heirs to family empires. The family business was their responsibility, their destiny. They could
never walk away.
She smiled. “Don’t joke around.”
Julian didn’t explain further, only asking: “Haven’t you ever thought about striking out on your own?”
Louisa: “I have.”
Twice, actually.
Once when she graduated from college, she’d wanted to build a career but ended up following George to the Capulet Group.
The second time was after her divorce. She’d wanted to start her own business but was limited by circumstances and connections.
Julian asked again: “Have you thought about what you’d want to do?”
Louisa shook her head.
Julian: “You should do investment banking.”
“Investment banking?”
Louisa was surprised.
She’d never considered that.
Julian: “Though you haven’t done it in recent years, during those middle two years at the Capulet Group, those projects you invested in under their name they all developed well later, didn’t they? That came from your sharp business insight and natural commercial talent. Investment banking is perfect for you.”
Louisa was genuinely shocked.

Julian understood her better than she understood herself.
After a long moment, she asked Julian curiously: “Those things were years ago. I’d forgotten about them. How do you know?
Given his position, he shouldn’t be paying attention to those small projects, right?
A flash of discomfort crossed Julian’s face. He stopped looking at her, avoiding her gaze.
This puzzled Louisa even more. What was going on?
