Julian exhaled deeply and, after a long silence, replied, Identity isn’t some magic solution. Beyond matching social status, my mother has a

mental blockLouisa’s been married before.

And Louisa has her own hangup, tootrauma from that marriage. She doesn’t believe in love anymore. She’s afraid of getting hurt again.

That being the case, why drag her into danger over something like identity?

What she needed now was time.

So he’d give her time.

When Louisa woke up, it was already past eight in the evening.

Hunger had roused her.

After a quick wash, she opened the fridge looking for something to eat.

But ever since getting together with Julian, she’d been eating at his place most of the time. She hadn’t cooked in ages, and her fridge was nearly emptyjust half a package of sliced bread and some milk.

She took them out and sat down at the dining table.

The bread was a bit dry.

The milk tasted watery.

She ate slowly, her mind involuntarily replaying today’s events.

Teresa had said so much to her in that conference room

She really didn’t care about Teresa.

But then Julian had shown up at the dinner gathering and brought her home.

They seemed to have fought.

She seemed to have said a lot of hurtful things.

But what exactly had she said? She couldn’t remember any of it.

All she remembered was Julian asking whether she even saw him as her friend.

How had she responded?

She’d forgotten that, too.

Her chewing slowed.

She looked down at the bread in her hand. It seemed even drier now.

She couldn’t swallow another bite.

The apartment felt stuffy.

Opening the windows didn’t help.

She simply grabbed her car keys, changed her shoes, and headed out.

She’d go for a drive, maybe grab some real food.

She hadn’t expected to find Julian outside.

He stood leaning against the wall between their two doors, a shopping bag at his feet.

No telling how long he’d been standing there.

Or why.

She froze for a moment. Why aren’t you going home?

Julian met her gaze but didn’t answer her question. Instead, he asked, Sobered up?

Yes.

Louisa nodded. I wasn’t that drunk to begin with. I always know my limit

Julian replied, Yes, quite measured.

Louisa didn’t respond to that.

The air fell silent for a moment.

Julian said nothing more, just looked at hera quiet, steady gaze that somehow conveyed a knowing depth, as if he could see right through her

but chose not to say so.

It gave Louisa the feeling that he was here to pass judgment on her.

Gradually, that oppressive feeling made it hard to breathe. Her mood grew more irritable.

Finally, she snapped, You’re standing here just to check if I’ve sobered up Well, now you’ve seen. I’m sober. You can go home, right?

Her tone was sharp.

Julian still didn’t speak.

Louisa couldn’t take it anymore. If you want to stand there, suit yourself m going out.

She turned to leave.

Julian moved faster, reaching out to catch her arm.

Louisa whirled around, fuming. What exactly do you want at this hour?

I did a lot of things today.

The statement came out of nowhere.

Louisa blinked, meeting his eyes. What does anything you did have to do with me?

Julian said calmly, Don’t be so angry.

Louisa fell silent.

He certainly was emotionally stable.

No matter when, he always maintained that emotional equilibrium.

With a slight pull, he drew her into his arms and murmured near her ear, did a lot of things. Need to report them to my girlfriend.

Louisa didn’t speak for a long while.

That irritation in her chest seemed to gradually subside.

But whatever he wanted to do or had already done was his freedom. She had no right to interfere, nor did she want to.

However, Julian didn’t give her a chance to speak. He pushed her away slightly.

Looking at her, he asked, Where were you going?

To get food. Go for a drive.

I could use something to eat, too. Let’s go together.

He pulled her toward the elevator, picking up his bag of things with his other hand.

Only after entering the elevator did Louisa notice. Aren’t you going to pull that back in your apartment?

No need. I’ll carry it.

Okay,

She didn’t know what was in it and didn’t ask.

At the parking garage, he led her to his car, placing the bag in the back set before opening the passenger door for her.

He drove himself.

Chapter 378

Louisa didn’t feel like talking, so she kept her eyes on the night scenery side.

Though the AC was running, Julian still lowered her window.

They passed a food district.

He slowed down. See anything you want?

Okay.

Louisa agreed, but by the time they’d driven through the entire street, nothing had caught her interest.

Julian understoodshe didn’t really want to eat.

His lips curved slightly in an almost imperceptible smile.

Next, he drove out of the city center toward the coast.

Though it wasn’t terribly late, this area was sparsely populated. The beach was nearly deserted.

When he parked, Louisa turned from the window and found herself looking through the windshield at an endless expanse of ocean.

Bright moonlight lay quietly where sea met sky, its radiance spilling down like countless scattered diamonds across the water’s surface, sparkling with each rolling wave.

The sight captivated Louisa. The heaviness she’d carried all evening finally settled into calm.

Julian unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, retrieved the bag from the back sea along with a thermos of warm fruit tea, and returned to the driver’s

seat.

He handed her the fruit tea first. Drink some.

Thank you.

Louisa accepted it.

She hadn’t had any appetite before, but suddenly the fruit tea smelled workerful, enticing.

She opened the lid and took a couple of sips.

Julian opened the bag and asked, What would you like?

Louisa looked and found it full of food.

Ham, caviar crackers, freshly washed grapes glistening with moisturelot of things, all foods she normally enjoyed.

But she rememberedhe didn’t usually keep cold cuts and snacks at home

Only one explanation: hed bought them specifically for her.
