Though Louisa wasn’t afraid of Teresa, she didn’t want to go to war with anyone either.

Moving to Julian’s floor to work would at least give her peace and quiet.

Marlee replied, “No way. Mr. Young specifically called and told me to help you pack.”

Seeing how cheerful she looked, Louisa narrowed her eyes with a dangerous tone. “You seem awfully eager for me to leave.”

Marlee smiled ingratiatingly. “How could that be? I’ll miss you terribly. Bu look how busy you’ve been in the Investment Department–everyone comes to you with everything. Being Assistant Director already kept you that busy, let alone being the actual Director now,

“I feel bad for you. Once you move upstairs to Mr. Tudor’s floor, people won’t dare go up there to bother you as easily. Won’t you finally get

some rest?”

Her words left Louisa stunned.

She’d only thought about the inconvenience, not that the inconvenience might let her slack off a bit.

Was that Julian’s thinking, too?

Seeing her daze, Marlee stopped what she was doing and linked arms with her, her tone genuinely reluctant. “Ms. Forbes, I really don’t want you to go. I was still learning from you. What will I do once you’re gone?”

Louisa smiled helplessly and tapped her head. “You’ve already learned plenty. Digest it and try handling things independently. After all, I won’t be in the Investment Department often–you’ll need to be my eyes.”

“Got it, Ms. Forbes. I’ll make sure these eyes stay sharp. Whatever you neek, just say the word.”

Louisa snorted and packed together with her.

That afternoon, Louisa moved upstairs.

Julian was swamped–meeting after meeting. Executive meetings, video conferences, international calls, scheduled client visits, plus stacks of documents requiring approval.

He didn’t have much time to spend with Louisa.

Ryder had wanted to invite her to a movie, but her cold tone left him unsure how to broach it.

He could only bring up work matters instead.

Louisa responded perfunctorily at first, but the more she listened, the more something felt off.

He didn’t seem to have actual questions–he was just making conversation.

Louisa cut him off directly. “Sorry, Ryder, I’m busy right now. Let’s leave it here.”

“Okay then. I won’t disturb you.”

Ryder’s tone carried disappointment.

Louisa immediately hung up.

At the same moment, a gleeful voice came from the doorway. “Calling your blind date during work hours, Ms. Forbes? You’re in trouble.”

Louisa looked up to see Teddy leaning casually against the door frame.

So he was listening in plain sight.

He set it on her desk, pushing one cup toward her. “I just went to make coffee and made an extra one for you.”

Louisa opened her mouth to speak.

Teddy cut her off. “No need to thank me.”
