Chapter 399
Teresa brought up Adeline directly. The meaning was obvious-
refusing Teresa meant disrespecting Adeline.
This was meant to cut off any thought Louisa had of refusing.
How could Louisa not see it? Teresa was using Adeline to pressure
her.
Louisa smiled faintly. “What are you saying, Ms. Hughes? Why would I
be unhappy?”
Teresa pressed, “So you won’t suddenly have something come up and
get called away by Julian again, will you?”
The implication: You won’t go running to Julian to tattle again, will
you?
But Louisa wasn’t so easily suppressed.
Louisa smiled again. “If you put it that way, I can’t give you a hundred
percent definitive answer. Just like at lunch today–didn’t all sorts of
unexpected situations come up? These days, even walking down the
street minding your own business, you could run into zombies. What’s

impossible anymore? Since we never know what tomorrow brings,
why doesn’t Ms. Hughes just go with the flow?”
Her tone was joking.
For a moment, Teresa didn’t know how to respond.

Louisa had no intention of standing there waiting for her to figure it
out. She said politely, “I have a lot of work to do. I won’t keep you
company, Ms. Hughes.”
Watching her retreating figure, Teresa belatedly realized–what
exactly was Louisa’s game?
When Louisa mentioned “zombies,” could she have been referring to
her?
Louisa returned to her office and closed the door.
She sat down at her desk, holding her now–cold coffee and sipping it
slowly.
But what occupied her mind was Teresa joining them on the business
trip to Gravenford.
Julian hadn’t explicitly told her about the Gravenford trip, but Teddy

had let slip that her name was on the roster.
Now Teresa was going, too.
Whether it was Julian’s arrangement or William’s didn’t matter.
Either way, it was Adeline’s idea—the goal was to have Teresa go and
make things difficult for Louisa, force her to face reality, and back
down.
Whatever. She wasn’t going to worry about them.
Louisa focused on her work.
Once she got busy, it was past nine at night.
Leaving her office, Louisa saw that the lights were still on in both
Julian’s and Teddy’s offices.
The secretaries had all left. Only those two remained.
Louisa hesitated, then walked over anyway.
Julian’s office door was open.

Probably because there were no outsiders left on this floor, Teddy
kept going in and out without closing it.
Right now, Teddy was drowning in work.
Seeing Louisa, he immediately looked at her like she was his savior.
“Louisa, help me out.”

“Then what use are you to me?” Julian’s cold voice drifted over.
Teddy followed his gaze down to his own hand.
In his desperation just now, he’d grabbed Louisa’s hand.
Wasn’t that asking for death?
Teddy quickly let go, his face falling.
Louisa smiled. “What’s the matter?”
Teddy explained the work he hadn’t finished and showed her the files.
His intention was to hope that Louisa could take on part of it.
But after Louisa looked it over, she asked, “Is this all?”

Teddy’s mouth twitched.
What did she mean, ‘is this all‘?
He’d forgotten–his boss and Louisa’s work efficiency was simply
inhuman.
Louisa said kindly to Teddy, “I’ll do it for you. You can go home.”
“You’re amazing.” Teddy looked like he was about to cry from
gratitude. “Then I’m leaving. I’m counting on you.”
He scurried off without so much as a glance at Julian.
Anyway, Julian would never get mad at Louisa.
And besides, Julian was probably dying to work alongside Louisa
anyway.
Louisa walked toward Julian, carrying the files.
She noticed Julian watching her with an amused expression.
She asked curiously, “What is it?”

Julian chuckled. “Ms. Forbes, you’re increasingly giving off the aura of
the lady boss.”
Louisa laughed awkwardly. “I’m just showing concern for a colleague.”
Just now she’d simply seen Teddy looking so pitiful and softened
momentarily.
It seems that she couldn’t make decisions on her own anymore in the
future.
Julian watched her for several seconds. As if sensing her thoughts,
those little bubbles of happiness in his heart popped with a pang.
The remaining work would normally have taken two more hours to
complete, but with Louisa’s help, they finished in less than one.
They went home together.
Julian stayed at her place as usual.
The moment they entered, Louisa found herself pressed against the
wall.
He held her waist and asked, “Can I not sleep on the couch tonight? I
didn’t sleep well at all.”

Louisa neither agreed nor refused. She draped her arms over his
shoulders and chatted casually. “Mr. Tudor doesn’t look like someone
who didn’t sleep well.”
Julian replied, “I’m good at hiding it.”
Louisa asked, “Then what else are you hiding?”
Julian looked at her intently. “Missing you.”
Meeting those deep, affectionate eyes, Louisa suddenly found herself
speechless.
Julian’s arm tightened around her waist, pulling her flush against
him.
Under his gaze, Louisa felt her mind grow hazy. Her eyes involuntarily
