Chapter 407
On the other side, at a roadside night market.
Louisa and Sadie were eating.
More than once, Sadie glanced at the three delicate small boxes
beside her.
They were the brooches Louisa had bought. She’d given all three to
Sadie to pass along to the others.
Sadie had been puzzled at first–since the two of them were already
having dinner together, why not just invite Flora and Rachel along
too?
But Louisa had only called her. Clearly, Louisa didn’t want a lively
gathering tonight.
Now, seeing Louisa’s somewhat distracted demeanor, Sadie asked
tentatively, “What’s wrong? Did you fight with Julian?”
“Is that even possible?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”

Louisa smiled, then sighed. “Being with him, there’s nothing to fight
about. He’s so good you can’t find fault with him.”
Sadie pressed, “So? Are you worried that he’s too perfect and you
don’t have confidence you can make it to the end with him? Or are
you saying you want to break up, want to run away, but can’t find an
opportunity?”
Louisa paused for a long moment before smiling bleakly. “What future
do we have? His parents will never agree.”
Sadie fell silent. The food in her mouth lost its flavor.
The gap in status was the deepest chasm between people.
Sadie moved to sit beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders
consolingly. “It’s okay. Don’t overthink it. I think Julian is someone
who takes responsibility. He’ll definitely be able to…”
Louisa shook her head. “Actually, what I hope most is that he won’t do
anything–won’t fight with his parents.”
In the end, it would just be retracing the path she’d walked with
George.
The ending was predetermined.

She didn’t want things between her and Julian to become that ugly.
“But my gut tells me Julian will definitely fight. You can’t control this
man. If you don’t walk his path with him, he’ll drag you forward even
if he has to trick you.” Sadie rarely made conclusions based on
intuition, but she had this strong feeling–Julian wouldn’t let Louisa
go so easily.
Louisa sighed, gazing at the night sky tinged like spilled ink.
Yes. In this game, she’d never been the one in control. She was just a
fool who’d strayed into a dangerous, forbidden zone.
Sadie was about to say something more when her phone suddenly
rang.
Seeing the caller’s name, Sadie’s expression darkened. She hesitated,
glanced at Louisa, but still answered. “What do you want?”
The fierce tone made Louisa freeze.
Who could be calling…
Then Sadie’s expression changed again. She exclaimed in shock, “What did you say?”

she turned to ask Sadie, “He’s the one who called you just now?”
Sadie nodded.
Louisa was still somewhat dazed. Hearing this from Sadie’s mouth,
she’d believe it.
But coming from George’s mouth…
Louisa was deeply skeptical.
She asked George directly, “Where did you hear this news? Are you
sure she was abducted?”
George replied, “Twenty minutes ago, my people I left stationed at
Virella Highlands called. They said Vivian was being transferred to
another prison today. The vehicle was hijacked midway. One escort
officer is dead, one injured.”
Louisa and Sadie fell silent in unison, exchanging glances.
George’s expression was grim as he looked at Sadie. “I heard you accepted a commission from Mark’s mother. You’ve been going to Virella Highlands a lot lately. You’re more familiar with the situation there. Do you know anyone inside the police force who could tell us
what’s happening now? Whether there are any leads to track down

Louisa thought about it. Julian should know.
She immediately pulled out her phone to dial.
But the moment the call connected, a phone ringtone sounded
nearby.
Following the sound, Louisa saw Julian’s tall figure emerging from
the darkness.
He pulled out his phone, about to answer, then walked into the
building and spotted the three of them.
Julian said, “Looks like you’ve all received the news.”
Louisa went up to him. “So you already knew?”
Julian nodded. “I got the message forty–five minutes ago.”
Louisa asked, “Then why didn’t you tell me?”
Julian looked down at her. “I was afraid of scaring you. I wanted to
come tell you in person. I didn’t expect everyone…”
He glanced at George with an ambiguous smile. “Turns out everyone’s
quite frightened.”

George ignored him, snorting heavily.
Julian didn’t bother with him either. He wrapped his arm around
