“We need to stay positive, Lily. We’re going to do this!” My voice sounds much more confident than I feel but it seems to somewhat relax my best friend so I go with it. I hold out my hand for her to take and give it a gentle squeeze as we head to the stairs to start to escape. Before we came here Lily and I managed to get a map of the place through the library at school and thankfully it was a recently updated one and made planning our escape so much easier.
We quickly make our way down to the main floor of the packhouse without seeing anyone then head to the narrow hallway that we need to take to get to the room that we need to find. The room that we are looking for has windows that we can climb out of that will lead straight to the woods and completely avoid the area that the ball is currently in.
But, there’s a massive risk with doing it this way as the room we need to use is right next to the Alpha’s office and to make matters worse, the Alpha is my mate so he’ll pick up my scent which means he’ll know straight away that I was in there and how I got away. If we get caught, not only will we be in trouble with our families and pack but also with Alpha Nicholas… just great!
We hold our breaths as we creep down the hallway constantly looking behind us and checking our surroundings. The closer we get to the room the more my heart pounds and I swear to the Goddess that my ass is sweating. We both let out big puffs of air when we finally reach the room and thank the Moon Goddess when I turn the door knob to find it unlocked. Yes!!
After another quick check of the hallway, we sneak in and run for the window. We need to be quick getting out of here and I swear the more time passes the more I feel like I’m heading for a heart attack. I push up the window and hold it while Lily climbs up ready to jump. This part is going to be painful for me but I’ll get through it. The drop from the window is only a few feet but my ribs feel like they are in pieces so I’m dreading the jump.
“All clear. Come on, Bon Bon.” Lily whisper yellows from outside making me quickly climb up on the windowsill and look down at her. I pull an old rag out of my pocket and stuff it into my mouth before jumping down and letting out a muffled cry from the pain. “Are you ok, Bon?” Lily helps me up from the ground as I pull the rag from my mouth and realization covers her beautiful face. “I was wondering why you put that in your mouth. Good idea.” I nod as I stuff the rag back in my pocket and we quickly head for the forest.
Jumping out of the window has made my whole body feel like it’s on fire but I would do it again. I struggle to keep up a fast pace but Lexi helps by constantly reminding me that once we are clear of the pack border we can slow down. Even injured I manage to keep up a good pace and within just a few minutes we find ourselves in the forest. Of course, there’s still a chance that we could get caught here with the guards that are on duty, but it is still much less likely than if we had walked through the ball area.
They don’t seem convinced and I get it. They stumble upon two she-wolves out in the forest close to the border late at night with backpacks, let’s be honest, no one would believe Lily’s story but I love her even more for trying. One of the guard’s eyes glaze over showing he’s mind-linking with someone so I decided to use the opportunity while he’s distracted. “Lily, run!” I bellow as I lunge at the other guard enough to startle him and cause him to fall over.
I let out a raw as I’m thrown from the guy’s body and watch Lily run just as the other guard that was mind-linking comes back to the now and sees that things have turned into a shit show. He grabs my shoulder and pulls hard causing me to cry out in pain. “Go and get her!” He bellows to the other guy sending him after Lily while he starts dragging me back through the forest and towards the pack house. I know I should be sad right now and worried about what’s to come but I’m not. Instead, I find myself just praying that Lily will get away and get to live her life. Please! Please! Please!
