Alpha Nicholas novel Chapter 49

We’ve always gotten on with Sophie. She was our sister’s best friend but after… what happened, we all became even more protective of her, and I’m glad that one of us gets to be by her side. I also know that Will has always had a thing for Sophie, but he refused to start something up with her when he could meet his mate and break her heart. I know it’s always been hard for him, and I’m glad he’s now got her as his mate. Those two will be amazing together.

We step inside the guard’s room to find everyone sitting around the table, including Tony and Omega Suzzy as they chat about Will and Sophie, as much as I’m happy for them and would love nothing more than to join in the conversation, we have bigger things that we need to talk about right now. “Ok you bunch of cockle women, let’s get down to business. No offense Suzzy.” She lets out a laugh before tapping my arm as she heads towards the door. “Call if you need anything, Alpha.” The woman is a goddam angel and I’m lucky enough to consider her a very good friend. “Ryan, walk Suzzy back to the pack house and then come back down.” He nods and then runs after her.

“I don’t need a bodyguard, Ryan. Now, go back to your seat, I’ll be just fine.” We all smile and laugh as they continue to argue until their voice grows too distant for us to understand them. “That bloody woman will give me a heart attack one day,” Robbie grunts. “You and me both brother.” I agree. Suzzy is a doll but she is also a stubborn old goat and a nightmare when you want to protect her. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to order her to accept protection in my Alpha tone.

“So, shall we get started? Ryan will only be a few minutes.” Tony asks, more than eager to get things moving, and I’m right there with him. “Before we start Nick. I get why Bonnie and Sophie are here, but why is Lilly? And before Shane gets his wolf in a twist, I’m not asking to be a prick or anything, I just want to know if something is going on that we should know about.” It’s a good question and one that I’ve been thinking about myself. Instead of asking him, I give Shane a nod and watch as he takes a deep breath.

“There is a reason for her being here, and it’s pretty big and insanely fucked up. It’s also her story to tell, so I’m not going to step on her toes.” OK, now my interest has peaked. “Lily, are you ok?” I feel Bonnie tense up beside me as she takes a step forward, I was just about to ask her if she knew what was going on, but the look on her face tells me that she doesn’t and that in itself is worrying. From what I’ve learned so far, Lily and Bonnie have been best friends all their lives and have shared everything, so if Lily has kept something from her, then it has to be pretty big.

Before Lily can speak, a roar comes from the cells that have us all running out of the guard room only to find Rowan trying to break the bars to his cell while roaring like a madman. Fucking prick! “What the fuck are you doing?” I roar as I storm towards his cell. “HE THINKS THAT HE CAN HAVE MY MATE! SHE THINKS THAT SHE CAN JUST WALK AWAY FROM ME! NO ONE WALKS AWAY FROM ME! I WANT TO SEE HER AND I WANT TO SEE HER NOW!”

He is so angry that he is frothing at the mouth and if I didn’t know how much of a prick he was, I would consider him to be having a mental break-down, but we all know he’s not, he thinks he’s above everyone and, even though he didn’t want Sophie, he can’t stand the fact that she now has Will and that he wants her. He probably thinks that he’s missing out on something and can’t handle that fact.

Laughter comes from behind me and I watch as Sophie walks over to me with the biggest smile on her face, while Will walks behind her staying silent but still showing his full support. “You don’t want me, Rowan so why are you pretending different?” Her voice is calm, confident, and strong, and I feel so proud of her.

She slowly moves her until she reaches the table and sits her in a chair before sitting next to her. Shane walks up behind her chair and places his hands on her shoulders offering her some support, but she looks completely broken. It’s a sight that is hard for me to witness, so I can’t imagine how he’s feeling right now.

I give Lily a moment to calm herself down before I pull out a chair and sit next to Bonnie ready to hear what’s going on. “Lily, would you like everyone to leave the room to have some privacy to discuss this?” She looks up at me and the sight is gutting. I may not have known her long, but she is my brother’s mate and honestly a sweet girl and I don’t like seeing her like this. “No, it’s fine, Alpha Nicholas.” I give her a smile and gentle nod hoping to show her some support, but for some reason, I have a feeling that Bonnie is going to be the one needing support after this conversation.

“What did my dad do?” Her words throw me, but then I look at Shane, and he doesn’t seem surprised by what Bonnie has asked and that instantly has me on edge. “He… he was…. Oh, goddess, this is so hard!” She stops talking and takes in some deep breaths as tears once again stream down her face while Bonnie remains quiet and calm as she continues to hold Lily’s hands, not once rushing her friend. “He… Lily, your dad was my first mate!” Oh fuck no!
