Warrior Robbie
As soon as we sit our asses down in Nick’s office where both Shane and Will are already waiting for us I waste no time in filling them in on everything. Nick had already told me what Shane had found out last night but I’m not mad at him for telling him. I understand the situation he was in and probably would have done the same if I had been in his position.
“Fuck!” Will grunts as soon as I finish speaking. “Fuck man, I don’t know whether to congratulate you or give you my sympathy.” Nick and Shane nod agreeing while I try and figure out what to say next but thankfully, Nick seems to understand my struggle as he speaks up for me.
“So, we need to talk with the women and children. We need to collect information from them so that we can figure out who needs help getting back home and who needs a home. There are more than likely a few Rogues in the group but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will want to be again so I’d like to be able to give them options. More importantly, we need to get all the information we can on Robbie’s Mate. Would you like to do that yourself or have someone else do it for you?”
He looks directly at me and I appreciate how he’s handling this. “I think I’d like to talk to her personally.” My mouth feels drier than the Sharah dessert just thinking about what I’m going to do but no matter how scared l am of finding out how old she is, I have to do it. I need to know.
“Are you ok, brother? You look like a ghost.” Shane grunts looking worried. “I know this is a lot to take in. We don’t know what she’s been through but both you and her can get through anything.”
“I’m not worried about what she’s been through. I mean l am because obviously I hate the idea of her being hurt in any way but!..”
“You’re scared to find out how old she actually is?” Will asks. I nod and grunt in agreement. “Do you think you have a rough idea?” He asks his eyes never leaving mine.
“Honestly, I’d like to say she’s in her older teens but she’s so petite that I wonder if I’m imagining it, wishing for it.”
“I think we can all understand that,” He answers while all my brothers nod in agreeance. “How about we just go right on in and rip the bandaid off? Otherwise, You’re just going to drive yourself insane sitting around worrying and overthinking everything. “Nick makes a good point and before I even realise I’ve answered him I find myself standing in front of the door to our battroom.
I take a deep breath as I stand just outside of the room where my mate is currently staying. I take another deep breath as my brothers all stand around me silently showing me their support before I open the door and instantly start looking around for her and feel my breath Lodge in my throat when the sight of her greets me. “Fuck!”
While I may appear to be handling the situation on the outside, inside I feel like a raging inferno. All I want to do is lash out at everyone and everything but what’s the point? It won’t change anything. It won’t make my situation any better. If anything it’ll just make me feel worse and dealing with guilt on top of all of this is the last thing that I need.
“So what’s the plan?” Shane asks pulling my attention away from my mate for the first time since we came in here which is probably a good thing because if anyone has noticed the constant attention that I’m giving her they’re bound to start thinking that I’m a stocker.
“I’m thinking we put the children into groups of ten and each one of us takes a group. We spend a few minutes with each child asking them a couple of questions. The basics, no pressure. If they want to talk about anything other than our questions then we will be open to that but otherwise, we just find out what we need and the rest we can get from the older women.
Well, keep the older women in a group on their own as their questions will be different, more difficult.” Nick instructs.”While I think that’s a great idea. That would make six groups and there are only four of us.” Shane points out. “Mom and Bonnie are going to join us. I thought it would be good for them to talk to the group of women. As for the last group, I just figured that whoever finished with their group first could take the remaining group.” That makes sense.
“Let’s get going then, shall we?” I ask both dreading and eager for what’s to come next.
