Chapter 101: The Art of Provocation
Chapter 101: The Art of Provocation
(Amelia’s POV)
Claim
Jaxon didn’t even blink at Adrian’s outburst. He turned his gaze directly to Alaric, his voice steady and unyielding.
“I am proposing a fair wager, Father,” he said. “If Adrian cannot produce breakthrough results for Stone River Botanicals within six months, he must hand over full management rights to
me.”
He paused, “And regardless of that outcome, the transfer of 10% of the company shares to Amelia happens today. Immediately.”
Alaric frowned deeply. His eyes shifted between his two sons. He looked troubled.
“Jaxon,” Alaric said slowly, rubbing his temples. “We are already arranging for Starlight Entertainment to be managed by Amelia. If we also threaten Adrian’s control over the pharmaceutical company… isn’t that too harsh?”
I watched father’s hesitation. He was trying to balance the scales, afraid of stripping Adrian
of everything at once.
Jaxon didn’t back down. He took a step closer to the patriarch.
“I will compromise on the timeline,” Jaxon said firmly. “The management rights will remain with Adrian for now. He has six months to prove his worth. If he fails, I take over. But the 10% shares? That is the price for Caleb’s crime. That is non–negotiable.”
I looked at Jaxon’s determined profile. My heart swelled. He wasn’t just fighting for compensation; he was systematically dismantling Adrian’s power base to pave the way for me to take over the Stone River Pack.
Adrian slammed his hand on the bedside table.
“This is ridiculous!” he shouted, his face flushing a deeper shade of red. “Six months? Do you know anything about this industry? Pharmaceutical research and development takes years,
not months!”
He turned his anger toward Jaxon, his eyes filled with scorn.
“And you,” Adrian sneered, pointing a shaking finger at his brother. “You run Umbra Analytics. It’s a startup biotech firm that hasn’t made a dime. You know nothing about mass production

or herbal synthesis. You are completely unqualified to cross over into my territory.”
Adrian looked back at Alaric, his voice desperate. “Father, if you let an amateur like him meddle with the company, he will destroy the foundation of our Pack. We cannot risk our main source of revenue on a gamble!”
The room was tense. Adrian’s arguments, though self–serving, held a grain of logic that seemed to sway Alaric.
I decided it was time to end this debate.

“If my father takes over,” I said, my voice cutting through the heated atmosphere like a blade of ice. “I can facilitate immediate cooperation with the Calder Pack.”
The silence that followed was absolute. You could hear a pin drop.
Alaric’s head snapped toward me. His eyes widened in shock.
“The Calder Pack?” Alaric asked, his voice barely a whisper. “The reclusive pack? The ones with the ancient medical archives?”
I met his gaze evenly. “The very same.”
My expression was deadly serious. I wasn’t joking.
Adrian let out a harsh, incredulous laugh.
“She’s lying!” Adrian barked, looking at Alaric with wide, frantic eyes. “She is just a little girl dreaming big. Cooperation with the Calder Pack? That is a fantasy!”
He glared at me with open contempt. “Just because you know Rhys Calder doesn’t mean you have any influence, Amelia. Rhys is a playboy who writes novels for humans. He holds no decision–making power in his pack. His father, Rowan, is the one who rules.”
Adrian turned back to Alaric, waving his hands dismissively.
“She is writing a blank check, Father,” he insisted. “She is trying to trick promises. She has no way to deliver on this.”

I let out a cold, sharp laugh.
“I might be writing a check,” I said, my voice dripping with mockery. “But at least I have the capital in the bank to cover it. You, Adrian? You don’t even have a ticket to enter the building.”
I kept my face impassive, but inside, I knew exactly why I could make that promise. The Calder Pack’s recent success in herbal research relied entirely on the technology I provided as the “Shadow Healer.” I held the core formulas. They needed me far more than I needed

them.
Adrian’s face twisted into an ugly snarl. He stepped toward the bed, his fists clenched.
Claim
“You ungrateful brat!” he roared. “Is this how you speak to your father? Have you no respect for your elders?”
“Respect?” I shot back instantly. “You aren’t worth any respect.”
I sat up straighter against the pillows, ignoring the dull ache in my ribs.
“You want to talk about competence?” I asked, my voice rising. “You raised a son so stupid he offended the only heir of the Calder Pack. Caleb tampered with my car and tried to kill me, and look where it got him. He’s lying in a coma while I’m making deals.”
I tilted my head, studying Adrian’s furious face.
“You spent years trying to suck up to the Calder family. You sent gifts, you begged for meetings, and you failed every single time,” I said ruthlessly. “And yet, I–the daughter you claim was raised like a savage rogue–have them willing to cooperate. That must burn, doesn’t it?”
Every word was a precision strike. I saw Adrian flinch as if I had physically slapped him. “Look at him,” Ava growled in my mind, pacing with excitement. “He’s weak. He knows he’s
lost.”
“Enough!” Adrian shouted.
I didn’t stop. I was just getting started.“Oh, I’m not done,” I said. “Did you know your precious Celine called Rhys today?”
Adrian froze.
“She called him to apologize,” I continued, enjoying the way his eyes widened. “She tried to play the victim. She tried to shift the blame.”
I smiled. “Rhys didn’t buy it. He tore her apart, Adrian. He criticized her so harshly she broke down in tears. He humiliated your ‘perfect‘ heir.”
I leaned forward slightly, locking eyes with him.
“Does it hurt?” I asked softly. “Does your heart ache knowing your beloved adopted daughter was insulted and rejected, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it?”
