(Amelia’s POV)

“Oh my, the dog is barking,” I responded to Caleb’s accusations with exaggerated surprise.

Caleb’s face turned crimson with rage. His hands trembled at his sides as he struggled to maintain

his composure.

“You’re so crude and uncivilized compared to Celine,” he spat. “She’s refined and graceful while you’re just… wild.”

Adrian stepped forward, placing a restraining hand on Caleb’s shoulder. “Leave her be, Caleb. Let her cool down and think about what she’s doing.”

He shot a pointed glance at Jaxon and Seraphina before walking away. The message was clear – he thought I was making a mistake.

Livia lingered, her eyes filled with disappointment. “Your behavior tonight has disappointed both your father and brother deeply.” She shook her head before following Adrian.

I watched their retreating figures with a cold smirk. Once again, I was certain I’d made the right choice. Parents and a brother like these weren’t worth claiming.

A gentle touch on my hand pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to see Seraphina looking at me with worried, sympathetic eyes.

“Don’t be upset, Amelia,” she said softly. “We’re your family now.”

Jaxon nodded in agreement, his expression warm and supportive. “That’s right.”

A wave of warmth flooded my heart. I turned my hand to grasp Seraphina’s, smiling playfully as I called them, “Dad, Mom.”

“How could I possibly be sad when I have such wonderful parents?” I said cheerfully. “I’d be smiling even in my dreams.”

Back in my room, I changed into my nightclothes and climbed into bed. “Black, White, Green, come out and get some air,” I called softly.

Three small snakes poked their heads out from the wardrobe and slithered happily to the bedside. They were my secret companions, trained to detect poisons and protect me.

My phone rang, Theodore’s name flashing on the screen. I lay on my stomach as I answered.

“Have you settled in at the Stone house?” His deep, magnetic voice came through the line. “How are you finding it?”

“It’s quite interesting,” I replied, feeling a pleasant flutter in my chest at the sound of his voice.

Theodore chuckled, a sound that sent ripples through my composure. In my mind, Ava was howling with delight: “His voice is so sexy!”

I had to admit, there was something captivating about this man’s voice- rich and compelling in a way I found very appealing.

“I was concerned you might be having a difficult time there,” he said.

“I’ve been tempered by nature and society,” I replied playfully. “I don’t easily feel mistreated.”

“That’s good to hear,” Theodore said with another laugh. “Next Saturday evening, our packs will hold a banquet together to announce our union.”

“I promise to agree to be your mate,” I assured him. “And I’ll do everything in my power to heal your

legs.”

There was a moment of silence before he responded, his voice gentle. “I look forward to seeing

you again.

Something about the way he said it made me feel unexpectedly shy.

After hanging up, I received a message from an unfamiliar number. It was Damien.

“You blocked me,” the message read. “I gave you the chance to come to Northgate City, but you refused, preferring to be a village girl in that remote pack. You’ll regret not having the opportunity

to be with me.”

My good mood evaporated instantly. I typed back a single word “***” – and blocked the number

again.

(Third–person’s POV)

After ending his call with Amelia, Theodore noticed a message from Celine.

“I’m not the true Alpha’s daughter,” it read. “The real daughter has returned, and Grandfather wants her to be your mate instead. I’ve been looking forward to our engagement, but never expected this to happen. Even if we can’t be mates, I’ll find someone to heal your legs.”

Theodore’s lips curled into a mocking smile. If he hadn’t already known about Celine’s plan with Adrian and Livia, he might have believed this performance.

“It’s unfortunate that we weren’t meant to be,” he replied simply.

Celine read Theodore’s response after her shower, her expression complicated. She truly wanted to be Theodore’s mate, but why did he have to become crippled?

The thought of Amelia – that wild woman – benefiting from this marriage arrangement made her blood boil. And Amelia claimed she could heal Theodore’s legs? Impossible.

Celine had learned from Isla that after Theodore’s legs were broken, the Crimson family had summoned healers from packs across the country, all to no avail. She didn’t believe Amelia could succeed where so many specialists had failed.

She didn’t have the courage to gamble on whether Theodore’s legs would recover. She needed to use her current advantages to secure a more stable future for herself.

The next morning, I went downstairs for breakfast after washing up. Seraphina brought up last night’s topic of the arranged marriage.

“Next Saturday evening, the two packs will hold an engagement banquet,” she explained. “The Crimson Moon Pack is the most powerful pack in Northgate City. Celine did have a marriage arrangement with Theodore before. The banquet was originally to discuss their mating ceremony.” “But you said last night that Adrian and his wife brought you back to replace Celine as Theodore’s mate,” she continued, looking at me questioningly.

“That’s what Celine told me,” I confirmed.

Seraphina studied my face carefully. “When you said last night that you’re willing to be Theodore’s mate, were you just joking?”

“Of course not,” I replied seriously. “I meant it.”

“Why?” she asked. “A mate bond isn’t something to take lightly.”

“The Crimson Moon Pack is the largest in Northgate City, and Theodore is the heir to the Alpha King,” I explained. “Isn’t being his mate a good thing? Besides, he’s strong, tall, and handsome.”

a sighed. “If Theodore hadn’t had that accident that left his legs crippled, he would naturally be an excellent mate. Celine wouldn’t have let you take her place.”

She looked at me intently. “Are you confident you can heal Theodore’s legs?”
