Chapter 152: A Satisfying Beatdown

Chapter 152: A Satisfying Beatdown

(Amelia’s POV)

As for your Drake family,I continued, my voice steady and cold. You didn’t start with legitimate business. You started in the gutters.

Matriarch Octavia stared at me. Her eyes were like a viper’s, filled with poison. I didn’t flinch. I stared right back.

Smuggling,” I said clearly. Wolfsbane. Illegal underground betting. That is the foundation of your wealth. Dirty money and blood.

The room went silent. Even the air felt heavy.

Griffin Drake, is working very hard right now,I said. He is desperate to wash the family name clean. He wants the Drake Pack to be respected in the legitimate werewolf high society. He wants to erase those dark chapters.

I turned my head slowly to look at Carlos. His face had turned a sickly shade of white.

“If Griffin finds out his own brother is using those old, bloody tactics to threaten people,” I said with a smile that didn’t reach my eyes, who do you think he will blame? Me? Or the liability dragging him back into the mud?

Carlos froze. The color drained from his face completely. Everyone knew Griffin hated when people brought up the family’s criminal past. It was his sore spot.

Octavia narrowed her eyes. She leaned forward on her cane, reevaluating me. The contempt in her gaze was gone. It was replaced by a cold, hard realization. I wasn’t just a country girl from Meadow Brook. I was dangerous.

Carlos clenched his fists. He looked between his mother and his mate. He needed to save

face. His pride as a man was crumbling.

You think you are smart,Carlos spat, his voice trembling with rage. Griffin will not let this slide. He will send professionals. He will send assassins to silence you quietly.

I didn’t even blink. I looked at him with boredom.

Assassins?I asked calmly. Go ahead. Send them.

I took a step closer to him.

But you should know something,I said. I have a dead man’s switch. I have evidence. Detailed records of the Drake Pack’s current smuggling routes. I have enough to bring the Werewolf Council down on your heads.

Carlos’s eyes bulged.

If anything happens to me,I said, that information goes public instantly. The internet will see it. The Council will see it.

You wouldn’t dare,he hissed.

Try me,” I challenged.

You b***h!Carlos roared, losing control. You want to die? Fine! But you won’t just kill yourself. You’ll drag that useless waste of a mother down with you! You and Seraphina will both rot!

Something snapped inside me.

My vision turned red at the edges.

What did you say?I asked, my voice dropping to a whisper.

Carlos sneered. I said your mother is a usele-

I moved.

I didn’t shift, but I moved with the speed of a hunting wolf. I crossed the distance between us

in a heartbeat.

*Smack!*

My hand connected with his cheek. The sound cracked through the hall like a whip.

Carlos stumbled back, clutching his face. He looked shocked.

Stop it!Octavia shrieked. “Girl, how dare you!

Shut up, old woman,” I snapped without looking at her. “You can barely stand on your own legs. You think you can stop me?

I grabbed Carlos by the collar of his expensive shirt.

*Smack! Smack!*

I slapped him again. Forehand. Backhand. I put my Alpha strength behind it.

You want to call my mother useless?I growled.

*Smack!*

I will slap that mouth right off your face!

Carlos tried to raise his hands, but he was slow. He was soft. I hit him again. Blood flew from his lip.

Lyra stood against the wall. Her hands were over her mouth. She looked terrified. But as I watched Carlos stumble, I saw something else in her eyes. A flicker of twisted satisfaction.

*Yes!* Ava howled in my head, her voice vibrating with excitement. *Tear him apart! Make

him silent forever!*

I shoved Carlos away. He fell back onto the sofa, groaning.

My hand stung. I rubbed my palm, glaring at the mess I had made of his face. Then I turned to Lyra.

She flinched. She pressed her back against the wall.

Aunt Lyra,” I said coldly. Are you going to kneel? Or do you want some of what he got?

Lyra looked at the unconscious enforcers on the floor. She looked at her mate, who was spitting blood onto the carpet. Her face was pale.

Her pride crumbled. The fear of physical pain was stronger than her dignity.

She trembled. Her legs shook. Then, she slowly lowered herself.

Her knees hit the floor with a dull thud.

II’m sorry,” she whispered, her head bowed low.

I looked down at her. I didn’t feel triumph. Just cold resolve.

You should have done that ten minutes ago,I said. You could have saved yourself a lot of

trouble.

I leaned in slightly.

The Drake Pack can’t touch me,I said mercilessly. Griffin won’t risk exposure. So guess who they are going to blame for this humiliation? Guess who is going to pay the price when I leave?

Lyra looked up, her eyes wide with realization. It would be her.

You disgrace!Octavia screamed, pointing her cane at Lyra. Her hands were shaking with

rage. You kneel to thisthis pup? You are a waste of space! You shame the Drake name!

Lyra flinched, shrinking into herself. She didn’t dare talk back to the Matriarch.

She is weak,” I agreed, looking at Octavia. But at least she knows when she is beaten.

pointed at Carlos, who was wiping blood from his chin.

He is the real waste,” I said. A male who can’t even protect his mate. A man who hides

behind his mother’s skirt.

I looked at Lyra.

Don’t mistake this for kindness,I told her. I didn’t make you kneel to help you. But when that old hag insults you, she insults the daughterinlaw of the Stone family. I am just balancing

the books.

Octavia looked like she was about to have a stroke. Her face was purple. She knew she couldn’t win with words, and her guards were unconscious.

Get out!she roared. Get out of my house! Now!

Gladly,I said. I grabbed Mom’s hand. Let’s go, Mom.

We turned to leave.

No!Carlos shouted. He struggled up from the sofa, his eyes wild. You don’t get to walk away! Mom, look what she did to me! We can’t let her leave alive!”

He lunged toward me.

I stopped. I spun around on my heel.

*Smack!*

My hand caught him square in the face again. It was a heavy blow. He spun around and crashed back into the coffee table.

I guess I didn’t hit you hard enough,I said, looking down at him with pure disgust. Shut your mouth. Adults are talking.
