Chapter 17: Give Amelia Ten Million!
Chapter 17: Give Amelia Ten Million!
(Third–person’s POV)
Adrian’s face hardened as he stared at Amella. “If you sign this agreement severing our
relationship, Livia and I will truly have nothing to do with you anymore.”
Amelia’s lips curved into a mocking smile. “That’s funny. It sounds like you’re implying you actually
cared for me during the past twenty years.”
Jaxon stepped forward, placing a protective hand on Amelia’s shoulder. “My wife and I will take good care of Amelia. You don’t need to worry about that.”
Patriarch Alaric studied Amelia’s determined expression and nodded slowly. “Since you’ve made up your mind, I won’t question it further. Stewart will draft the agreement and bring it tomorrow.”
With Stewart’s assistance, Alaric rose from his seat and made his way toward the door, leaving the
tension–filled room behind.
After Alaric’s departure, Amelia faced the four pairs of hateful eyes staring at her. “Grandfather’s gone. Why are you still hanging around? Haven’t you been scolded enough for one day?”
.
Livia’s face contorted with rage. “You ungrateful girl! You’re so quick to side with outsiders against your own family!”
Caleb stood with his fists clenched, humiliation burning in his eyes. “I hope you don’t come crawling back to us for forgiveness later,” he sneered before grabbing Celine’s hand and storming
out.
Adrian’s gaze was cold as ice. “I clearly underestimated you. I thought you were just some simple country girl, but you’re far more calculating than I imagined/
“You’ll regret this,” Livia hissed, following her husband and children out the door.
Outside the Briarwood House, Celine’s mind raced, desperately trying to formulate explanations for everything captured in the recording. Before she could speak, Caleb squeezed her hand reassuringly.
“I believe you, Celine. I understand. You would never have said those things if Amelia hadn’t pushed you to your breaking point.”
Celine seized the opportunity, her eyes filling with tears. “I really tried to understand her. I didn’t blame her for anything. But after she repeatedly trampled on my sincere feelings today, I just

couldn’t take it anymore.”

She dabbed at her eyes delicately. “I just hope I haven’t caused trouble between everyone and
Amelia.”
Livia wrapped an arm around Celine’s shoulders. “None of this is your fault, dear. What happened back then was because of Martha Keene’s greed. She’s paying for her crimes in prison now.”
Celine shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “You are my mother, Livia. You always will
be,”
Livia’s eyes welled up. How could she possibly choose a daughter who was inferior in every way over the exceptional girl she had raised for twenty years?
Adrian’s expression remained stern. “Celine, you shouldn’t have given Amelia ammunition to use against us. You need to be more careful.*
“I know,” Celine admitted, lowering her head. “I never expected her to be so calculating. I won’t make the same mistake again.”
Livia’s brow furrowed with concern. “After all this, will she still agree to marry Theodore in your
place?”
Celine bit her lip, looking appropriately distressed. “If necessary, I could still marry him. It might help appease Amelia.”
“Absolutely not!” Caleb and Adrian protested simultaneously.
Adrian shook his head firmly. “We won’t let you marry a cripple. You deserve better.”
“Don’t worry,” Livia assured her. “I’ll find a way to handle the marriage arrangement. You won’t have to marry Theodore.”
Relief washed over Celine’s face. She had managed to navigate this crisis, but she would need to be much more careful around Amelia in the future. She had underestimated her rival, a mistake
she wouldn’t make again.
(Amelia’s POV)
As soon as Adrian’s family left, Seraphina turned to me with worried eyes. “Amelia, I want you to know that Jaxon and I truly care about you. Our desire to have you as our daughter has nothing to do with pack inheritance.”
I smiled warmly at her. “I know that.”
Seraphina shook her head in disbelief. “I can’t believe those words came from Celine. She always seemed so sweet and gentle.”

“Know the face, not the heart,” Jaxon said grimly. “Did you see that venomous look in her eyes? After today’s events, Adrian and Livia will certainly harbor resentment toward us. We need to be
cautious.”
“I expected Celine would cause trouble,” I admitted. “When I saw her starting to provoke me, I immediately started recording. She’s not as careful as she thinks she is.”
“That fake daughter thinks she’s clever,” Ava purred in my mind. “But she’s still too green to match
us.”
The next day around noon, before Alaric could send over the relationship–severing agreement, Livia showed up at my door alone. I was lounging in the hammock in my front yard, sunbathing with a banana leaf covering my eyes, but I’d caught her scent long before she arrived.
I I “What’s that barking sound?” I drawled lazily when I heard her voice. “Strange, we don’t have dogs, yet there’s always one barking around here.”
Livia’s face darkened at my insult, but she forced herself to remain calm. She pulled out a gift – a bank card and extended it toward me.
–
“There’s ten million in this card,” she explained, her voice artificially sweet. “It’s a gift from Adrian and me. Consider it compensation for the hardships you endured during the past twenty years.”
I took the card and held it up, examining it with exaggerated interest. “Wow, ten million!” I exclaimed, thinking to myself that this amount barely matched the price of a single rare moonlight herb I cultivated. My rare moonlight herbs could be grown in abundance, and ten million wouldn’t cover even one percent of my research expenses.
Seeing my reaction, Livia seemed encouraged. She squeezed out a couple of tears and pressed on. “I know deep down you still want to recognize us as your parents. After all, we’re connected by blood. We’re mother and daughter.”
