Chapter 176: The Drakes Arrive
Chapter 176: The Drakes Arrive
(Amelia’s POV)
I walked over to Theodore’s wheelchair and looked down at Caleb on the stretcher. He was still as a corpse, but I knew the truth. The poison paralyzed his body, not his mind. He was wide awake in there. He could hear every word we said.
“I hope he enjoys the humiliation,” Ava scoffed in my mind. “He gets to hear exactly what his precious family thinks of him while he can’t lift a finger.”
I smirked and leaned down, whispering to Theodore.
“Did I ever tell you? Werewolves in this state have incredibly sensitive hearing. I wonder how many hard truths Caleb has listened to over the last few days.”
Theodore’s lips twitched with amusement. I straightened up and turned to face Ethan. My expression sharpened. I inspected my fingernails casually, letting the silence stretch.
*Ethan,” I said, my voice dripping with mockery. “When it comes to dirty tricks, I really am just an amateur compared to your family.”
Ethan flinched. He clearly thought Father had successfully threatened me through Seraphina. He puffed out his chest, trying to look in control.
*Amelia, you forced our hand,” Ethan said, his voice tight. “Now, wake Caleb up immediately. Then clear the poison from me and Celine.”
Celine stood beside him, practically vibrating with excitement. I could see the greed in her eyes. She thought her face was about to be perfect again. She thought my death was just around the corner once she got what she wanted.
“Fine,” I said, dropping my hand. “Let’s get this circus over with. But remember, Ethan. You are the one who opened the cage. Don’t come crying to me when the beast bites you.”
Ethan let out a long breath, his shoulders sagging in relief. He thought he had won. He immediately adopted that patronizing tone I hated so much.
“If you had just been obedient from the start and didn’t try these schemes, we wouldn’t be in this mess,” he lectured. “We are family, Amelia.”
I took a sharp step forward.

“Family?” I interrupted, my voice sickly sweet. “Ethan, you don’t need a family. You need a scapegoat. So save the Hallmark speech. It’s embarrassing.”
Ethan choked on his words. He looked around, flustered.
“As long as you wake Caleb and cure us, we can wipe the slate clean,” he stammered, trying to regain ground. “We are still the Stone River Pack. We are still one family.”
I laughed, a cold, harsh sound.
“Some things happen, and they can’t be unwritten,” I said, staring straight into his eyes. “Stop talking that nauseating nonsense.”
Celine, hating being ignored, adjusted the veil over her rotting cheek. She sidled up to
Theodore, her voice pitching up into a sugary whine.
“Theodore, I heard your leg injury is healing,” she said. “That is so wonderful.”
Theodore didn’t even look at her. He stared straight ahead.
“It is,” he said flatly. It sounded like he was reading a weather report.
Celine beamed, mistaking his indifference for politeness.
“Once Amelia cures me, my face will recover quickly too,” she gushed. “And then-”
“I was just using basic social manners,” Theodore cut her off. His eyes finally slid to her, cold and empty. “It does not mean I care if your face is rotting or healed.”
I burst out laughing. Celine froze, her mouth open. She stood there, trembling with rage and humiliation.
(Author’s POV)
Ethan signaled the bodyguards to carry Caleb inside. Just as they lifted the stretcher, the roar of a high–performance engine tore through the air.
Theodore turned his head. A bright red sports car was at the gate. Natasha rolled down the window, arguing loudly with the Stone family guards.
Amelia waved her hand at the security team. “Let them in.”
The gate opened. Natasha’s car sped up the driveway, followed closely by a sleek black. luxury sedan. Ethan squinted. He recognized the second car. It belonged to his aunt, Lyra.
Natasha hopped out of her car. Three other women followed her. They were dressed in high fashion, looking around with bright, eager eyes. They were high–ranking she–wolves from the

Ethan felt a knot form in his stomach. He stared at the uninvited guests. He didn’t know why Amelia had called an audience, but he felt a sense of impending doom. But there was no going back. He had to force Amelia to finish the treatment.
Ethan and Celine walked over to greet the black sedan as it parked. The driver opened the
door.
Lyra stepped out first, followed by her mate, Carlos Drake. Carlos looked nervous, rubbing his cheek as if remembering a phantom pain.
Then the back door opened. A tall man stepped out. The air seemed to drop a few degrees. It was Griffin Drake, the heir to the Drake Pack. He radiated danger and arrogance. He turned and offered a hand to the person remaining inside.
Matriarch Octavia Drake emerged. She stood tall, her grey hair perfectly coiffed, her presence
commanding.
Natasha’s friends gasped and whispered excitedly. Griffin and Theodore were known rivals. They usually avoided each other like the plague. Seeing them in the same driveway was explosive news. Natasha winked at her friends. The show was just starting.
Octavia’s sharp grey eyes immediately locked onto Amelia. The look was pure venom. She hadn’t forgotten the humiliation of Amelia slapping her son.
Inside Theodore, his wolf, Logan, let out a deep, rumbling growl.
“That mutt dares to step on our ground,” Logan snarled in Theodore’s mind. “Let me tear his
throat out.”
Theodore placed a hand on his chest, calming the beast. He watched the group with icy
detachment.
The tension in the driveway was thick enough to cut with a knife. Theodore tilted his head slightly toward Amelia.
“Did you offend Griffin?” he asked quietly.
Amelia shrugged. She looked as relaxed as if she were discussing the weather.
“Not Griffin specifically,” she said. “But I did slap his uncle Carlos several times right in front of that old lady.”
Theodore’s lips cured into a faint, amused smile. He looked at Griffin. The Drake heir wasn’t just here for family honor. He was looking at Amelia with a dark, predatory interest.

Suddenly, Livia rushed out of the house. She stopped dead when she saw Octavia and Griffin. Her face went pale. These were the true powers of the Drake Pack, people who rarely deigned to visit the Stone River territory.
Octavia ignored Lyra completely. She stared down her nose at Livia.
“I heard that today you are making this wild girl apologize to my son,” Octavia said coldly. “I came to see it for myself.”
Livia immediately put on a fawning expression. She clasped her hands together, looking anxious to please.
“We will handle everything properly, Matriarch Drake,” Livia promised, her voice trembling. “Amelia knows her place. We will not allow any disrespect.”
Amelia rolled her eyes so hard it looked painful. She turned to Theodore, speaking loudly enough for everyone to hear.
“Wow, look at her go. I haven’t even agreed to apologize, and she’s already selling tickets.”
Livia flinched, her mask of politeness slipping. Octavia shot a contemptuous glance at Amelia. Then her gaze shifted to the man in the wheelchair.
“However,” Octavia said, her voice holding a warning note. “Since the Alpha King’s heir is here, I assume he is backing her up. But you had better not disappoint me. The dignity of the Drake family will not be trampled on.”
