Adrian looked up at the five imposing figures of the Grey brothers. They stood behind Seraphina like a wall of iron, their muscles tense and eyes locked on him. They were ready to hold him down and do the job themselves if he hesitated for even a second.
Panic completely took over Adrian’s mind. He had no other choice.
He turned to Livia, his voice trembling. “Call the doctor. Have the Pack healer wait outside the door. Now!”
Livia dialed the number with shaking fingers, her face pale.
Adrian turned back to the table. He reached out and picked up the old knife Amelia had thrown. His hand shook violently. The blade was rusty and dull, a piece of junk. He placed his left hand on the table and spread his fingers. He positioned the dull blade over his pinky finger.
He gritted his teeth. He squeezed his eyes shut. Then, he sliced down hard.
“Argh!”
Adrian sucked in a cold breath. The knife didn’t cut through. It was too dull. It only broke the skin, slicing into the flesh but stopping at the muscle. Smoke rose from the wound. The silver metal burned his wolf physiology, sending searing pain shooting up his arm.
His hand went limp. The knife clattered to the floor.
“Stop! Just stop!” Livia screamed, rushing forward.
“If Adrian cannot do it,” Helena Grey’s voice cut through the room like the freezing wind of the Northern Territories. She looked at Livia with zero sympathy. “Then his mate can pay the debt for him.”
Livia froze instantly. Her mouth snapped shut. She loved her wolf, yes. She wanted to protect his dignity. But sacrifice her own finger? Bear that excruciating pain for him?
Absolutely not.
Livia shrank back, terrified to make another sound.
Ethan stood nearby. He took a step forward, wanting to play the hero for his father. But then

he looked down at his leg. It was already crippled. He was barely holding onto his position as the heir. If he lost a finger too…
He would be a cripple and mutilated. The Pack would eat him alive. Ethan swallowed his words and stepped back into the shadows.
The silence in the room was heavy and suffocating.
Suddenly, Livia turned her head. Her desperate, frantic eyes landed on Celine. She didn’t think twice. She grabbed Celine’s arm, her grip bruising.
“Celine,” Livia pleaded, her voice high and hysterical. “You… will you do it? For your father? He raised you. He gave you everything.”
Celine’s body went rigid. She looked at Livia with total disbelief. A flash of anger sparked in her eyes. *Is this woman crazy?* she thought. *She wants me to cut off my finger?*
“Wow.”
A relaxed, mocking voice broke the tension.
Amelia leaned back comfortably in her chair. She adjusted her position, crossing her legs as if she were settling in for a movie. She let out a loud, unmasked laugh.
“Oh, please, Livia. Don’t stop,” Amelia said, a cruel smirk playing on her lips. “Go on. Watching this ‘noble‘ family try to mutilate each other to save their own skins… it is the best entertainment I have seen all year.”
Livia whipped around, her face twisted with rage. “Shut up! You have no right to speak here!”
Amelia didn’t even blink. Her smile only grew sharper, her eyes cutting like glass.
“Keep going,” Amelia goaded. “Tell everyone how that ‘precious daughter‘ you loved so much is suddenly trash you can throw away the moment you need a shield.”
Celine’s heart hammered against her ribs. She saw the look in Adrian’s eyes. He was considering it. He was actually considering letting her take the fall. If she said yes now, her selfish father would agree instantly. She would be ruined.
She didn’t know what to do.
Surprisingly, Ethan stepped in. He frowned at his mother.
“Mother, no,” Ethan said. “Celine is already suffering. The side effects from the medicine have ruined her face. Her body is weak. She cannot handle the shock of losing a finger.”
Livia looked at her son in shock. “Do you have the heart to watch your father suffer?”

Ethan didn’t answer. He couldn’t say the truth loud. Celine was still an asset. She was the link to the Crimson family, however tenuous. Damaging her further was a bad investment.
Celine saw her chance. She decided to gamble.
She squeezed out fake tears, looking pitifully at the Grey family.
“I… I would do it,” Celine whispered, her voice trembling. “But… surely Lady Helena and Seraphina would not accept an outsider paying the debt? It wouldn’t count.”
Helena Grey didn’t answer. She looked at her daughter, Seraphina. Seraphina turned her gaze to Amelia.
This time, Amelia didn’t wait for the elders to protect her. She didn’t hide behind a mask of obedience. She stood up slowly. Her presence filled the room, commanding attention.
“Put away your little tricks, Celine. No.”
Amelia stared coldly at the fake daughter. Her tone was ruthless.
“This is not a vegetable market. You do not get to bargain here,” Amelia declared. “Adrian insulted me. Adrian failed his Pack. Adrian pays the price.”
She took a step toward her biological father. Her blue eyes burned with cold fire.
“I do not want a scapegoat’s finger,” she hissed. “I want the Alpha’s finger. Only the blood of the Alpha can repay the debt owed by the Alpha.”
Behind her, the Grey uncles let out low, threatening growls. They nodded in agreement.
“Hurry up,” one of the uncles barked. “Or we will use our own claws.”
Adrian realized there was no escape. He was completely cornered. He looked at the knife on the floor, then at his hand. He didn’t have the courage to swing the blade again.
With a trembling hand, he picked up the bloody, dull knife. He turned to his son.
“Ethan,” Adrian rasped. “Help me.
He shoved the knife toward Ethan.
Ethan stared at the knife. He looked at his father’s hand, the skin already sliced open and bleeding. He felt sick. But the pressure from the Grey family was crushing him.
“Do it!” Adrian screamed.
Ethan gritted his teeth. He grabbed the handle. He lined the blade up with the wound his

father had already made. He pushed down hard, sawing back and forth.
“Aaaaaah!” Adrian screamed.

The knife was too dull. It got stuck on the bone. It wouldn’t go through. Ethan pushed harder, but the blade just wedged tighter into the finger bone.
Adrian’s face twisted into a mask of pure agony. Cold sweat poured down his face like rain. He shrieked in pain, a high–pitched, terrible sound.
Amelia watched the gruesome scene without flinching. She sighed loudly.
“You are all so incompetent,” she said, sounding bored.
She stood up and walked to a small tool shelf in the corner of the room. She picked up a small, heavy hammer. She weighed it in her hand for a second.
She walked back to the table and tossed the hammer in front of Ethan.
*Thud.*
“You are making this ugly,” Amelia said lightly, though her eyes were freezing cold. “Use this. One hit. Clean. Unless… you enjoy hearing your father scream like a dying pig?”
Ethan looked at the hammer. He looked at his father, who was whimpering in agony with a knife stuck in his finger bone. He wanted this nightmare to end.
Ethan’s hand shook as he grabbed the hammer. He took a deep breath.
He raised the hammer high. He aimed for the back of the knife blade stuck in Adrian’s hand.
He swung down with all his strength.
*Crack!*
The sound of bone snapping echoed through the silent room. It was a sickening crunch.
“AAAAAHHH!”
Adrian let out a blood–curdling howl. His pinky finger was severed completely. Blood sprayed across the table, staining the wood dark red.
