Livia stood frozen in place. Her eyes were wide and vacant, her brain seemingly shortcircuited by the sudden turn of events. She stared at the man in the robe, unable to process his familiar greeting to me.

I broke the silence with a scoff.

I raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on my lips as I looked at the old man.

Took you long enough, old man,I said, my voice cutting through the quiet room. Did you stop for coffee?

Elias shook his head helplessly. He let out a huff of annoyance, but his eyes were warm with laughter.

Most people knew Master Elias as a respected scholar of the mystical arts in the werewolf world. But to me, he was much more.

During my years of exile in the Meadow Brook Pack, he had been my mentor. He was the one who taught me how to identify every herb and extract every venom. He taught me how to control the deadly substances that others feared.

We weren’t just teacher and student. We were partners in crime.

Elias looked at me, a sigh escaping his lips.

I did not expect our reunion to happen in such a ridiculous farce,he muttered.

He turned to face the room, his expression hardening as he prepared to explain.

Two days ago, Mrs. Stone contacted me regarding a delicate matterElias began.

I waved my hand, cutting him off. I didn’t need a long explanation. I wanted to enjoy the look on Livia’s face.

I took a step forward, my gaze locking onto Livia’s pale, trembling features.

Look, Auntie Livia,” I said, my voice dripping with mock sympathy. When you want to frame someone for dark arts, here is a tip. Don’t hire the mentor who taught them everything they know.

I tilted my head, smiling coldly. It’sembarrassing.

Elias shrugged his shoulders beside me.

Indeed,” he added. She demanded that I declare you were using evil spells, regardless of what my examination found. She offered quite a sum for me to lie. It was an insult to my professionalism.

Livia screamed, pointing a shaking finger at Elias and me.

Shut up! You are lying!she shrieked. You are working together! Guards! Come here! Bind these two lunatics immediately!

My wolf, Ava, let out a low, excited growl in my mind. She was ready for blood.

But I didn’t need to shift.

Two of the borrowed elite warriors rushed forward, obeying Livia’s frantic command. They

reached for me.

I didn’t even move my feet.

With a casual flick of my wrist, three silvercoated throwing knives sliced through the air.

*Thwack. Thwack.*

The blades buried themselves deep into the thighs of the attacking guards.

Argh!

The men howled in pain. Their legs gave out instantly as numbness spread from the wounds. They collapsed to their knees, clutching their legs where the skin was already turning black.

Livia’s eyes bulged. She turned to the remaining forty warriors, her voice cracking.

Kill her!she screamed, pointing at me. Kill her now! All of you!

The mass of armed men surged forward like a tidal wave.

I lifted my hand and snapped my fingers.

*Snap.*

The sound was sharp and clear.

Suddenly, a strange rustling noise filled the room. It came from the windows, the vents, and the cracks under the doors.

Hundreds of poisonous insects, centipedes, and venomous snakes poured into the living room, drawn by a specific scent I had released.

The room erupted into chaos.

What is that?!one warrior yelled, slapping at his neck.

Snakes! There are snakes everywhere!

The elite soldiers, who had faced death in battle, completely lost their composure. They screamed as the creatures crawled up their legs and dropped from the ceiling.

Terror broke their discipline. They scrambled over each other, shifting into their wolf forms in a desperate attempt to escape the swarm.

Within seconds, the warriors fled the living room, whimpering as they ran out the doors.

Livia stood alone amidst the sea of writhing creatures. Her face was devoid of blood. She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out.

Theodore sat in his wheelchair, unbothered. He looked at the chaos, then raised an eyebrow

at me.

I shrugged, looking at the carpet of venomous pets. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. I couldn’t let Ronan’s gift go to waste, could I?

Elias looked at the scene. He nodded approvingly. You learned your lessons well,he commented.

Livia’s legs finally gave out. She collapsed onto the sofa, her eyes filled with absolute despair.

I blew a whistle, the snakes and insects stopped their erratic movements. They slithered and crawled toward the center of the room.

They formed a tight, deadly circle around Adrian, Livia, Ethan, and Celine.

The four of them huddled together, terrified to move a single muscle.

I walked over to Jaxon and Seraphina. With quick movements, I cut their bonds. Then I moved to Grandma and Grandpa Grey and my uncles, freeing them one by one.

Alaric stood up, rubbing his wrists.

The old Alpha stared at his son, Adrian, with eyes cold as ice.

This is a disgrace,Alaric spat. You brought shame upon this house.

Adrian slumped against the sofa cushions, trapped by the circle of poison. His eyes were

hollow.

I regret it,Adrian muttered, his voice barely a whisper. I should never have brought her back. I should have left her in the countryside.

He wasn’t sorry for what he did. He was only sorry he got caught.

Alaric sighed, the sound heavy with exhaustion. He turned his back on his son and looked at

  1. me.

Amelia, I am tired,Alaric said. “I am too old for this. From today onwards, the Stone River Pack is yours to manage. I will contact the Werewolf Council tomorrow to officially transfer all assets and authority to you.

I nodded. This was not a gift. It was a trophy I had won.

I turned around. My gaze felt like a physical weight as it landed on Adrian and his family.

I gave my first order as the acting Alpha.

Good,I said coldly. First order of business: Get out of my Pack house. Now.

Livia jerked as if slapped. She shot up from the sofa, forgetting the snakes for a second.

You vicious wretch!she screamed, her face twisted with hate. We are your family! You want to ruin us?

I let out a short, mirthless laugh. I stepped closer, staring right into her frantic eyes. Vicious?I repeated. Honey, I am the Alpha now. Vicious comes with the territory.

Alaric didn’t even look at them. He stood by my side, reinforcing my command.

Yes,the old man said. Everything in the Stone family belongs to her. She has the right to make any decision she sees fit.

The finality of his words hung in the air.

From the corner of the room, a trembling voice spoke up.

FatherLyra stammered, her eyes darting between Alaric and me with anxiety. What about me?
