“So what?” I raised an eyebrow, meeting Derek’s glare with cool indifference.
Derek shoved his hands into his pockets. He took a step closer, letting his Alpha pheromones roll off him in suffocating waves to pressure me. He sneered, his lip curling in disgust as he looked
down at me.
“Your brother, Ethan, really knows how to put on a show,” Derek mocked. “When I asked him if you put him up to it, he clenched his jaw like a martyr. He wouldn’t sell you out, even when I beat him until he was coughing up blood.”
Derek laughed, a harsh, barking sound. “He actually thinks taking a beating makes him a hero. What a fool. Does he think playing the victim washes away his sins?”
A cold, ironic smile touched my lips. “It is ridiculous, I agreed. “I don’t know what goes through his head. Does he think a few broken ribs will fix years of betrayal?”
Derek leaned in, his voice dropping to a faux–sympathetic whisper. “He almost died, you know. He’s lying in the ICU right now. Doesn’t your heart ache for your big brother?”
“My heart?” I laughed softly, the sound devoid of warmth. “Ethan has tried to bury me more times than I can count. I don’t waste pity on my enemies.”
I looked Derek dead in the eye. “I sent him to save Skylar for one reason. I knew you would attack him. I wanted to borrow your fists to teach him a lesson.”
Derek’s expression flickered with surprise.
“Honestly,” I sighed, feigning disappointment. “I regret that you didn’t hit him harder. If you had killed him, you’d be rotting in a cell for murder right now. I could have solved two problems at
once.”
Derek stared at me for a long moment. He shook his head slowly. “Your heart is more poisonous than wolfsbane, Amelia. Ethan is an idiot for trying to protect you. He isn’t worth it.”
“If you feel so bad for him,” I retorted, my voice sharp, “I can beat you half to death next time. We can call it vengeance for my dear brother.”
Derek’s face darkened instantly. The air around him crackled with violence.
“Watch your back at night, Amelia,” he threatened low in his throat. “It would be a shame if you went missing. Theodore would be so heartbroken.”

He cast one last, predatory glance at Skylar, who was trembling behind me. Then he turned and stalked away.
I scoffed at his retreating back.
*Let him come,* Ava growled in my mind, her voice dripping with anticipation. *I will show him who
the real hunter is in the dark.*
Theodore squeezed my hand. His golden eyes danced with amusement. “Just say the word. I’ll be
your personal cheerleader while you tear him apart.
I squeezed back, grounding myself. The drama was over for now.
“Since the trash has taken itself out,” I announced, raising my voice to address the room. “I’d like to
invite everyone to lunch at The Golden Stag.”
The representatives from Gale Entertainment had fled, but the others remained. Their eyes lit up.
This was where the real business happened.
I waved Anya over. The poor girl looked like she had been struck by lightning. She was clutching
the contract for *The Treatment Diary*.
“One… one hundred million dollars?” Anya stammered.
Whispers broke out among the guests. It was an astronomical sum for a copyright fee. Doubts were written on their faces. They suspected it was just money shuffling within the Stone family
accounts to inflate the value.
I stepped up to the microphone one last time.
“To clarify,” I said clearly. “I am personally injecting one hundred million dollars into Starlight Entertainment to purchase these rights. This is my own capital, separate from the pack.”
A collective gasp swept through the hall. The executives looked at me with new eyes. They weren’t looking at a pack princess anymore. They were looking at a financial titan. A girl raised in the remote Meadow Brook Pack had just outspent them all with liquid cash.
They nodded in respect. Losing to that kind of tangible power wasn’t shameful.
“Anya,” I commanded. “Start the project immediately. Skylar Reed is the female lead.”
Anya straightened her spine. Her eyes shone with absolute adoration and loyalty. “Yes, Boss!”
(Author’s POV)
On the second floor, the VIP box remained shadowed. Penelope Blackwood swirled the red wine in her glass, watching the scene below through the one–way mirror.
She took a slow sip. “Impressive,” she murmured to herself.

It was no wonder her foolish brother Damien was so obsessed with Ames. The woman was
brilliant. But Penelope knew the truth, Damien was too soft, too indecisive. He would never be de
to handle a woman like that.
Only a monster like Theodore Crimson, the Alpha Xing himself, had the strength to stand beside

Her gaze shifted. She spotted a figure walking through the corridor outside the hall.
Rhys Calder.
He moved with a casual grace, completely detached from the tension in the room. He was the heir to the Calder family, the wealthiest dynasty in the capital. Yet, he cared nothing for power or territory. He spent his days writing novels and building websites.
Penelope sighed. The contrast was stark. Look at the Crimson family. Brothers tearing each other’s throats out for the throne. And then look at Rhys, living freely.
“One child,” she decided firmly, draining her glass. Twill only have one pup. I won’t let my bloodline end up like the Crimsons, killing each other for a chair.”
Down below, the signing ceremony concluded. The crowd began to disperse toward the
restaurant.
Outside The Golden Stag, a figure in a low cap lingered in the shadows. Caleb Stone let out a long breath. He had been watching from a distance, terrified that Griffin would hurt his sister.
But Amelia had handled it perfectly. She was strong. She didn’t need his protection anymore.
Caleb felt a mix of relief and bitterness. He pulled the brim of his cap lower, hiding his face. It was
time to disappear again.
He turned to leave, stepping into the alleyway.
Suddenly, a voice froze him in his tracks. It was cold, venomous, and familiar.
Griffin Drake.
Caleb pressed himself against the brick wall, holding his breath. Griffin was pacing angrily, his phone pressed to his ear.
“I don’t care how you do it!” Griffin roared into the receiver. “Find a writer. Now!”
He paused, listening to the person on the other end his face twisting into a snarl.
“I want a script exactly like hers,” Griffin hissed. “A healer theme. Copy the structure, change the names. We need to film it fast.”
Griffin kicked a trash can, sending it clattering down the alley.

“We have to release it before Starlight Entertainment, he commanded, his voice dripping with malice. “Flood the market with a cheap copy. I want to crush her project before it even airs. Make sure she loses every cent of that investment.”
