Alaric paused for a moment, then added, “If Theodore doesn’t mind that Celine is merely the Alpha’s adopted daughter and wishes to continue with their arranged mating, we wouldn’t necessarily need to substitute Amelia.”
Celine’s expression grew tense at these words. Her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her sleeve as she awaited Amelia’s response.
Amelia smiled easily. “That’s not a problem. I’m willing to mate with Theodore.”
Alaric frowned, studying her face carefully. “Are you certain about this decision, Amelia? This is not something to be taken lightly.”
Amelia nodded firmly. “I’m absolutely certain.”
Livia couldn’t hide her delight. She had expected Amelia to refuse, making it difficult to force her into the alliance. She hadn’t anticipated Amelia would agree so readily to replace Celine in the mating with the Crimson heir. Inwardly, she smirked, thinking Amelia must realize her own situation – being mated to the crippled Crimson heir was already better than she
deserved.
Alaric observed Amelia’s quick agreement with curiosity, unable to discern her true thoughts. “Since you’ve agreed so readily, we’ll proceed with this arrangement. I’ll speak with the Crimson family before the engagement banquet to clarify the situation.”
He tapped his cane lightly against the floor. “In the days before the engagement, you should spend time with Theodore, Amelia. Get to know his character and personality.”
Amelia smiled warmly. “I’d be happy to.”
After Alaric left, Caleb couldn’t contain his disdain. “With your background, even mating with a crippled Crimson heir is aiming too high. If Theodore’s legs weren’t injured, this opportunity would never have come your way.”
Amelia’s eyes flashed dangerously. “It’s Celine, your fake sister, who would be marrying above her station whether Theodore was injured or not. For me, it’s a match between equals. Perhaps Theodore and I are fated mates.”
She stepped closer to Caleb, her voice dropping to a cutting whisper. “How unfortunate that Celine was so shortsighted. She only saw Theodore’s crippled legs and assumed he’d lost his

claim to the Alpha King position, so she quickly abandoned this advantageous match.”
Amelia waved her hand dismissively. “And Caleb, stay away from me when you speak. Your words pollute my ears.”
Inside her mind, Ava whispered, “They will never understand what a true mate bond means.”
Before Caleb could finish his retort, Amelia cheerfully grabbed Seraphina and Jaxon’s hands. “Mom, Dad, let’s go prepare for my welcome banquet!”
Seraphina and Jaxon responded with indulgent smiles. “Our daughter will be the most eye–catching princess that night,” Jaxon declared proudly. “No one will steal your spotlight.”
Amelia glanced back to see Caleb watching the three of them leave. His face twisted with contempt as he scoffed, “The most eye–catching princess? I can’t wait to see how she embarrasses herself at the welcome banquet.”
Caleb turned to Celine. “You need to perform exceptionally well that night. You must overshadow Amelia completely, show her how inadequate she truly is.”
Celine feigned concern. “Is that appropriate? Uncle and Aunt might be angry.”
Inwardly, she recognized her precarious position now that she was no longer the Stone family’s true daughter. Deliberately undermining Amelia at her welcome banquet might provoke Patriarch Alaric’s displeasure.
Livia waved away her concerns. “What are you afraid of? If we can make them angry, all the better. Do as Caleb says – you must completely overshadow Amelia at the welcome banquet.”
Her eyes revealed her bitterness and resentment. The memory of how disrespectfully Amelia had treated her – her own birth mother – the previous day still rankled. The mysterious powder Amelia had used had left her throat uncomfortable all night, fueling her anger.
“I understand,” Celine replied softly, while inwardly smirking. Outshining that wild girl Amelia would be effortless. With just a little scheming, she could make Amelia a complete laughingstock.
The invitations for Amelia’s Saturday evening welcome banquet had all been distributed. Jaxon had overseen the decoration of the pack house’s banquet hall, sparing no expense on the finest materials and ordering the most expensive wines and spirits. He wanted every pack member to see how much he and his wife valued their daughter.
Despite his thorough preparations, Jaxon worried he might have overlooked something. “Amelia, is there anything about the venue setup that needs improvement?”

Amelia looked around at the clearly thoughtful decorations and smiled warmly. “No, Dad. You’ve done a wonderful job.”
Seraphina added, “The evening gown you selected has been ordered from abroad. It should arrive tonight, ready for tomorrow’s banquet.”
Seeing how attentive her loving adoptive parents were, Amelia felt a warmth spread through her chest. “Thank you, Mom.”
“You’ll look stunning in it,” Seraphina assured her. “I’ve selected the most renowned and sought–after evening gowns internationally. No one will outshine you.”
Since gaining a daughter, Seraphina had developed a competitive spirit, determined not to let anyone mistreat Amelia.
(Amelia’s POV)
After lunch and a short nap, I headed to The Whispering Glade campsite where I’d arranged to meet Theodore. I needed to begin treating his legs and resolve the Ethan situation.
Theodore had arrived early. Ethan lay on the ground looking sickly, his eyes filled with hatred and fear when he spotted me. I ignored his glare and walked calmly toward Theodore, sitting down on the stone bench beside him.
“I’ll start your treatment today,” I said softly.
Theodore nodded slightly, his eyes showing anticipation but even more trust in me.
“I’ve examined your legs,” I continued. “They can be healed, but it will require reconnecting tendons and bones. The process will be painful, but if you can endure it without interrupting the treatment schedule, I could heal your legs in as little as three months.”
