Chapter 32: Ethan Gets Threatened

(Ethan’s POV)

“You’re awfully confident for someone who’s nothing compared to Celine,” I sneered at Amelia, looking down at her with contempt. “Where does all this arrogance come from?”

Amelia’s lips curled into a smile that sent chills down my spine. “I’m confident about things I’m sure of. Just like I’m confident you won’t tell anyone that I severed the tendon in your right

leg.”

She was right–I didn’t dare tell anyone the truth. The memory of the poison she’d forced down my throat was still fresh. The excruciating pain had been unbearable.

After arriving back at the Stone Estate, Amelia parked the car and turned to me with that infuriating smirk.

“Get out,” she ordered casually.

I glared at her, humiliation burning through me. Slowly, painfully, I dragged myself out of the car, each movement sending sharp stabs of pain through my right leg.

“Look at you,” Amelia said, her eyes gleaming with amusement. “All this because you decided to come after me yesterday. And to think it was Caleb who sent you.”

“What are you talking about?” I hissed through clenched teeth.

“Caleb was too cowardly to confront me himself, so he used you as his sacrificial lamb.” Her voice was light, almost playful.

“Stop trying to drive a wedge between my brother and me,” I growled.

Amelia laughed outright. “Drive a wedge? Why would I bother? Do you think I care about winning your approval? Or fighting with Celine for your affection? That’s truly laughable.”

Just then, a Porsche pulled into the parking garage. Celine and Caleb stepped out one after another. Caleb’s eyes widened when he saw me standing with Amelia.

“Ethan? What are you doing with her?” he asked, shock evident in his voice.

Before I could answer, Amelia jumped in. “Is it so strange that my brother would check on me? I’ve been back for days, and he’s finally found time to see how I’m doing.”

Caleb’s expression shifted as understanding dawned. He clearly realized I must have

confronted Amelia on Celine’s behalf. But his confusion was obvious–why was Amelia completely unharmed?

“We’ve cut all ties with you,” Caleb spat coldly. “You’re no sister of ours.”

Amelia rolled her eyes. “Correction: I cut ties with you. I’m the one who doesn’t want you.”

Then, to my utter humiliation, she reached up and patted my cheek twice. “Remember to behave from now on,” she whispered, loud enough for the others to hear. “Or face the consequences.”

With that, she twirled her car keys around her finger and sauntered away, leaving me standing there, seething with rage and shame.

As soon as Amelia was out of sight, Caleb turned to me with disbelief written all over his

face.

“What the hell, Ethan? Since when do you let anyone talk to you like that?” His voice was filled with confusion. “I thought you were going to teach her a lesson. Not only is she fine, but she’s treating you like… like you’re beneath her.”

I couldn’t meet his eyes. “Drop it, Caleb.”

I tried to take a step forward, but the pain in my right leg nearly made me collapse. Celine rushed forward to steady me.

“Ethan! Your leg!” she gasped, noticing my awkward stance. “What happened to your right leg?”

Caleb’s attention immediately shifted. He hurried over and examined my leg, his eyes widening with shock and confusion.

“What the hell happened to your foot?” he demanded, gripping my shoulders tightly. “Tell me!”

I tried to appear calm as I pushed him away, but Caleb wouldn’t let go. He held on firmly, insisting on an answer.

Finally, I snapped. With a burst of strength fueled by frustration and pain, I shoved him away. “Enough! Stop asking!”

Caleb stumbled back, looking hurt and bewildered. “I’m just worried about you. Why are you so angry?”

“I don’t need your concern,” I snarled, then turned away.

Each step I took was agony, but I forced myself to walk, limping heavily on my right leg. I

could feel their eyes boring into my back as I struggled forward.

Behind me, I heard Celine’s trembling voice. “Do you think… do you think Amelia did this to him? Is that why he won’t tell us? Is she threatening him?”

Caleb’s response was filled with rage. I could hear his teeth grinding together, his breathing becoming heavier.

“It must be,” he growled. “I told him about how she bullied you, and he must have confronted

her. Now look what she’s done to him.”

“What do we do?” Celine’s voice broke with emotion. “His leg isn’t permanently damaged, is it?”

“No,” Caleb said firmly, though I could hear the uncertainty beneath his confidence. “Amelia wouldn’t dare go that far. It’s probably temporary, like what happened to me. I’ll get to the bottom of this, I swear. If she really did cripple Ethan, Mom and Dad won’t let her get away

with it.”

I continued my painful journey into the house, where I found Livia sitting in the living room. Her brow furrowed with concern as she watched me limp in.

“Ethan! What happened to your foot?” she asked, rising from the sofa.

“Got into a fight with some rogue wolves,” I muttered coldly, my face pale with pain.

Livia’s face filled with worry. She rushed toward me, her hands outstretched. “Let me see!”

“Don’t!” I snapped, waving her away harshly. “What’s there to see?”

My mother flinched at my tone, taking a step back. Hurt flashed across her face, and she fell

silent.

Seeing her reaction, I immediately regretted my outburst. I took a deep breath to calm myself, realizing I shouldn’t take my frustration out on her.

“I’m sorry,” I said, my voice softer now. “Could you please call Healer Corwin to come right away?”
