On the pitch–black highway, Livia stumbled forward, her expensive silk blouse torn to shreds by thorns. Her once meticulously styled hair hung in wild tangles around her face.
In the distance, headlights pierced the darkness.
She summoned every ounce of strength left in her battered body and rushed to the roadside, waving her
arms frantically.
“Help me!” she screamed, her throat raw and dry.
The sedan didn’t slow down. The driver seemed to mistake this woman appearing in the wilderness at night for a dangerous rogue. He pressed the gas pedal and sped past without a second glance.
Livia’s arms dropped to her sides.
To avoid being dragged back by the man who had kidnapped her, she couldn’t stay exposed in this open area. She forced her aching legs to move, limping along the edge of the highway.
Twenty minutes later, a second vehicle approached.
The outcome was the same. No one was willing to stop for a disheveled stranger.
Livia glanced back at the endless darkness behind her, terror gripping her chest. She knew she couldn’t wallow in self–pity. She had to keep moving if she wanted to survive.
So she walked.
Meanwhile, in a cheap rental apartment in Northgate City, Ethan leaned back against the sofa, exhaustion
written across his face.
He had just sent a message to his brother Caleb. Now he tried calling his mother Livia again.
As Caleb had said, the call went straight to voicemail.
After a shower, Ethan lay on the stiff mattress, tossing and turning. Anxiety gnawed at him, making sleep
impossible.
He picked up his phone and sent a message to Hailey, his former colleague at Starlight Entertainment. On the surface, he was asking about the company’s operations. In reality, he was trying to fish for information
about his sister Amelia.
Hailey replied quickly, saying the company was running smoothly and the public opinion had shifted.
Then she sent a long text. She mentioned that Livia had stormed into the office and humiliated her. Hailey

confessed that she had only helped Ethan spy on Amelia because of her crush on him. But now she had come to her senses. She wouldn’t do anything that violated professional ethics anymore.
Ethan stared at the screen.
He sighed heavily and tossed the phone aside. His mother always felt like a millstone hanging around his neck, suffocating him.
The cold wind cut through the night like a blade.
Livia tripped over a piece of broken stone and fell hard. Her knee slammed into the pavement. Blood
seeped through her torn pants.
She lay there, certain she would freeze to death on this desolate roadside
Then, in the distance, a black SUV appeared. It drove past her, then stopped. Slowly, it reversed
The window rolled down.
A woman with a cold, severe face sat in the driver’s seat. She studied Livia’s wretched state with sharp
eyes, then pulled out her phone and made a call.
Livia stared at the woman in the car. This was her only lifeline.
The dull light in her eyes suddenly blazed with the will to survive. She struggled to crawl forward,
desperate to beg for help.
(Amelia’s POV)
Late at night, the vibration of my phone shattered the silence of the bedroom.
1 groggily reached for it and answered. It was Silas.
Deep in my consciousness, Ava growled in displeasure at being disturbed. I patted my chest gently,
soothing her until she quieted down.
On the other end of the line, Silas’s voice was brief and to the point. The scouts she had sent out had
found Livia. The woman had apparently just been released from some kind of captivity. Her condition was
pitiful.
I was instantly awake.
“Control her,” I ordered calmly. “Til handle it myself tomorrow.”
I hung up and glanced at the calendar. It was already November 20th. Tomorrow was my birthday banquet.
Releasing Livia at this exact moment was clearly part of a scheme orchestrated by Adrian and the Drake family. They wanted to use this madwoman to sabotage the event

A cold smile curved my lips.

The next morning, the dining table was laden with fried eggs, bacon, and toast.
I sipped my black coffee and asked my mother Seraphina for four blank birthday banquet invitations.
I picked up a pen and wrote two names in smooth, flowing script: Ethan Stone and Caleb Stone.
Seeing those names, both my adoptive father Jaxon and my mother froze in shock.
I set down the pen.
“Since my biological father Adrian has completely aligned himself with the Drake family and intends to destroy me,” I said calmly, “instead of passively defending, I’d rather follow the old saying: keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. I’ll gather everyone under my watch and settle this once and for
all.”
Alpha Jaxon nodded in approval. “If conflict is inevitable, then it’s time to end it completely.”
Seraphina picked up the last invitation. It bore the name Aunt Lyra.
“Why isn’t Livia’s name here?” she asked, puzzled.
