Chapter 38: Ethan Is Just a Part of the Game
Chapter 38: Ethan Is Just a Part of the Game
(Ethan’s POV)
Amelia’s words dampened my anger somewhat. Thinking about her being cast out, she must have suffered greatly. If she had remained in the Stone River Pack, she would never have experienced such hardships.
My voice turned hoarse. “It’s true that Celine’s mother secretly switched you two babies. But Celine was just a child then–she’s innocent in all this.”
Amelia mockingly cleaned her ear with her finger. “What a boring excuse. If the switch wasn’t Celine’s mother’s deliberate plan, then sure, she’d be innocent. But this was carefully orchestrated for her benefit. If you can still call her innocent, then there are too many
‘innocent‘ people in this world.”
She leaned closer. “The night before I returned to Stone River Pack, your ‘innocent‘ sister hired
men to try to violate me.”
“I don’t believe you,” I said immediately.
“Feel free to investigate,” she replied with a shrug.
“Is that why you’re humiliating me? To make me experience what you went through?” I asked, my leg throbbing with pain.
Amelia nodded. “Exactly. There’s no such thing as true empathy in this world. It’s better to make people who talk without understanding actually experience it themselves.”
She flashed me a brilliant smile that somehow radiated pure malice. “Keep your composure. The game is just beginning. When your family loses everything and becomes nothing, you’ll be even more devastated.”
With that, she sauntered toward the garage.
I turned to watch her retreating figure. My emotions became very complicated. Still, I couldn’t believe Celine would ever hire someone to violate Amelia.
(Amelia’s POV)
When I arrived at The Whispering Glade, Theodore was already waiting in the newly built pavilion. I gestured behind me.

“Theodore, I brought him. Ask him yourself if he said you’re only being nice to me because you need something from me.”
Ethan, with his bad right leg, had fallen behind. He finally approached, his steps faltering when he heard my words. He looked at Theodore nervously.
“Is that so? Is that what Ethan thinks?” Theodore asked with a faint smile.
“Yes, I said that,” Ethan admitted, his voice betraying his unease.
Theodore let out a low chuckle. “And why would you think that?”
Ethan seemed to throw caution to the wind. “Because compared to Celine, Amelia falls far short.”
Theodore’s smile gradually faded. “Have you actually taken the time to get to know Amelia before making such bold claims? Is this the narrow–minded perspective of the future heir of Stone River Pack?”
Ethan was speechless. He glanced at me as I leaned casually against a pavilion pillar.
“What is there to know?” he finally said. “She grew up in a remote pack with limited education. A simple investigation shows she dropped out of school at fourteen. How could someone like that compare to Celine?”
Theodore’s eyes turned cold. “Outsiders might dismiss her for not seeming accomplished enough, but as her brother, what right do you have to look down on her?”
Ethan fell silent again.
Theodore let out a scornful laugh. “Your family will regret this attitude. Amelia is far more exceptional than you believe. Despite being switched at birth by Celine’s malicious mother and denied the resources she enjoyed, she weathered every storm and grew stronger, becoming truly impressive.”
Hearing Theodore’s praise, my curious gaze intensified. How could he be so certain I wasn’t inferior to Celine? We’d only met a few times, with limited interaction.
“I admire Amelia. I like her,” Theodore continued. “That’s why I give her all my tenderness–not because I need something from her, as you suggested. I called you here to clarify this in front of Amelia. I don’t want my affection to be misunderstood. Ethan, if I hear you disparaging me like that again, I won’t be so reasonable about it.”
“I understand. I apologize,” Ethan said reflexively.
Theodore waved dismissively. “You can go now. Don’t disturb my time alone with my

fiancée.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. Ethan looked at me in disbelief.
“You’re just going to make me walk back like this?” he asked.
“What else?” I replied. “You’ve only lost the use of one leg, not your life.”

After a moment of silence, Ethan realized I wasn’t joking. Clutching his cane, he turned and limped away.
Once Ethan was out of sight, I turned to Theodore. “I’m curious about what you said. Why don’t you think I’m inferior to Celine like everyone else does?”
Theodore’s smile was like a refreshing breeze. “Do you think I became the alpha heir by luck?”
He continued, “The first day I went to Meadow Brook Pack Territory to find you, I discovered one of your secrets. Those herbs hanging on your wall–I’ve seen them at the Northgate City auction house. Each one is worth at least ten million. You displayed them so casually, showing you’re not short of money.”
“When you met me, you were neither servile nor arrogant. Your confident speech and demeanor aren’t developed overnight–they come from someone who has long been self–assured and achieved considerable success. I knew then that this girl was anything but ordinary.”
(Celine’s POV)
Back in my room, I prepared to visit Starlight Entertainment. Livia thought Ethan was acting strangely and wanted me to investigate at the company.
Glancing out the window, I spotted Ethan following behind Amelia. I was surprised–wasn’t he supposed to be at the company? Why was he with Amelia?
I moved to the bed and gripped the windowsill tightly. What if Ethan had been won over by Amelia? What if he was now on her side?
The thought filled me with dread. My position in the Stone River Pack depended on my value to my adoptive father, Livia’s pride in me, and the unconditional love from Ethan and Caleb.
If I lost Ethan’s support, my situation would become even more precarious. I couldn’t allow that to happen. At tonight’s welcoming feast, I would have to do something.
