Chapter 39: Damien Really Love You
Chapter 39: Damien Really Love You
(Amelia’s POV)
“So that’s it,” I said with sudden understanding.

I thought back to when Theodore first came looking for me. He truly deserved his reputation as the man who was about to become the Alpha King of the Northern Territories. His insight was remarkably keen.
My shabby little cottage had fooled everyone else. No one would have noticed the value of the herbs hanging on my walls. Yet Theodore spotted them immediately.
“Not only is your perception sharp, but your knowledge is extensive,” I remarked. “You must frequent the Onyx Fang Auction House in Northgate City to recognize such rare medicinal herbs at a glance.”
Theodore smiled. “Adrian’s family choosing Celine over you is their loss.”
I took out my acupuncture kit and began preparing to treat him. As I carefully inserted golden needles around Theodore’s knees, my expression remained calm.
“From the moment I learned that Adrian and Livia knew Celine was switched at birth but never intended to bring me back, they were dead to me,” I said evenly. “My return to Stone River Pack has one purpose–to make them lose everything they have as penance for their
cruelty.”
Theodore didn’t flinch as I inserted another needle. “And what about me? Many believe I can’t hold onto my position as heir.”
“What do you think?” I asked.
He smiled. “Let them believe what they want. This situation helps me identify who’s loyal and
who isn’t. I’ll deal with them all at once.”
I returned his smile. “Then I wish you both success in getting exactly what you want.”
(Ethan’s POV)
After leaving The Whispering Glade, I called my secretary, Anya Reed.
“Alpha! I’ve been trying to reach you for hours!” Her voice was frantic. “I was about to come looking for you at home!”

“Send a car to pick me up,” I ordered, sending her my location. “Now.”

An hour later, Anya stepped out of the car and gasped when she saw me leaning on a cane.
“Alpha! What happened to your leg?” Her eyes widened in shock.
“Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t,” I snapped.
She immediately fell silent and helped me into the car.
“What’s the situation at the company?” I demanded. “Why so many calls?”
Anya straightened her posture. “Manager Zachary from Business Development needs to report that Helena Shaw, Lily’s agent, has responded. There will be a small meeting in Northgate City at the end of the month where Lily will decide who gets the rights to her final healing chronicle.”
She hesitated before continuing. “Lily specifically emphasized that the actual person in charge of the company must attend personally.”
I clenched my jaw. This Lily was becoming arrogant with her growing fame, but she had earned that right. Her healing chronicles were revolutionary.
“I’ll attend personally,” I decided.
The reality of my situation was becoming clear. My right leg was now useless, and I was still suffering from the poison in my system. If Starlight Entertainment couldn’t produce better results, I might end up like Theodore in the Crimson family–watching as Grandfather Alaric took back control of the company.
I needed to secure the rights to Lily’s final healing chronicle. It was my only chance to prove my worth.
(Amelia’s POV)
It was nearly one in the afternoon when the treatment ended. I removed the last golden needle and looked at Theodore’s pale face.
“That’s enough for today,” I said. “You should go home and rest.”
“Let’s have lunch first,” Theodore suggested, his gaze fixed steadily on me. His voice was casual, as if the pain he’d just endured had been nothing but a dream.
Before I could answer, my phone rang. Unknown number.
I answered, and Damien’s voice immediately came through. “Where are you now?” he demanded.

“Almost at the train station,” I lied smoothly.
“I’ll come pick you up,” he said eagerly.

After hanging up, I met Theodore’s questioning gaze. “My ex–mate,” I explained.
Theodore raised an eyebrow. “You’re still in contact with Damien?”
“I’ve blocked so many of his numbers, but he keeps finding ways to reach me,” I sighed. “He’s offering to make me his mistress now. I’m planning to teach him a lesson so he’ll finally leave me alone.”
Theodore shook his head. “Your little tricks might not be enough to discourage him. If he’s already returned to the Blackwood Pack in Northgate City as the alpha heir, yet still pursues you shamelessly, there must be more to it.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you suggesting Damien truly loves me and can’t let me go?”
Theodore analyzed the situation seriously. “If he didn’t genuinely like you, why would he, as an alpha heir, continue to chase after you? For a man to lower himself like this, it must be because of genuine feelings.”
I found this even more amusing. “If being recognized by his birth family and immediately telling me he wanted to break our mate bond counts as ‘liking me,’ then his affection is certainly cheap.”
Theodore continued his analysis. “Damien both likes you and can’t let go of the vanity his new status brings. When he first suggested breaking your mate bond, he was probably just trying to gain the upper hand in your relationship.”
He looked at me thoughtfully. “I’m guessing that before, Damien was the one who pursued you more actively, who put in more effort.”
I thought about it and realized he was right. I had saved Damien’s life, and afterward, he insisted on dedicating himself to me. Although he was my wolf’s recognized mate, I felt nothing for him.
Back then, he was just a poor boy, but he used every courtship method he could think of- flowers, jewelry, handbags. He would ride his old motorcycle to see me after work every day, cook for me, clean for me, help me organize my herbs, almost without fail regardless of weather.
Damien’s daily persistence had impressed me with his determination. Two months ago, I was finally moved by his sincerity and agreed to his confession.
Strangely, just days after I agreed to be with him, his enthusiasm suddenly waned. He

stopped coming to see me every day and became less attentive.

I remembered that the week before Damien suggested breaking our mate bond, he suddenly asked on the phone,” Amy, don’t you think I’m not good enough for you? Don’t you not want to be with me?”
