Hearing my instructions, Caleb’s expression grew serious. He leaned forward, eyes narrowing with suspicion.
“Did Amelia tell you something specific?” he asked, studying my face carefully. “You seem unusually concerned about Celine.”
I waved off his question, not wanting to reveal more than necessary. “Just investigate first. If someone really is trying to harm Amelia, you’ll understand soon enough.”
Before Caleb could press further, my phone rang. I glanced at the screen and felt a surge of hope–it was Celine.
“Ethan!” Her excited voice came through as soon as I answered. “I have good news. My friend has agreed to help us. He’s going to try to arrange a meeting with Shadow Healer Lily!”
This was the first piece of good news I’d heard in days. I sat up straighter, my pulse quickening.
“When?” I demanded, unable to hide my eagerness. “How soon can he arrange it?”
“He’s working on it now,” Celine replied. “He has connections.”
I gripped the phone tighter. “Tell your friend I’ll pay five hundred thousand if he succeeds. No questions asked.”
Caleb’s eyebrows shot up at the figure.
“He’s not doing it for money,” Celine said softly. “But I’ll let him know.”
After ending the call, I leaned back in my chair, feeling the tension in my shoulders ease slightly for the first time in days. If we could secure Lily’s help, I might have a chance against Amelia’s poison.
“You look almost happy,” Caleb observed, a small smile forming on his lips. “Celine really comes through for us, doesn’t she? No matter how impressive Amelia might be, we can’t forget who’s been supporting the Stone family all these years.”
I met his gaze, my resolve hardening. “Don’t worry. I feel exactly as you do. I’ve always seen. Celine as my true sister, and nothing–absolutely nothing–will ever change that.”

I ended the call and turned my attention back to the handsome man sitting across from me. Rhys Calder looked every bit the cultured heir to the Obsidian River Pack–elegant, refined, with intelligent silver eyes that seemed to analyze everything.
“My brother says he’ll pay you five hundred thousand if you can successfully arrange a meeting with Lily,” I said, offering my most charming smile. “This is really important to me, Rhys. You can make it happen, can’t you?”
Rhys’s expression didn’t change at the mention of the substantial sum. He simply smiled, his eyes never leaving mine.
“I’m not helping you for money, Celine,” he said softly, his meaning unmistakable.
I understood his implication perfectly but chose not to acknowledge it directly. Instead, I leaned forward slightly.
“Is three days enough time?” I asked.
Privately, I assessed him. Rhys was undeniably handsome, cultured, and wealthy–but he was still just the heir to the Obsidian River Pack. He couldn’t compare to Theodore Crimson, the future Alpha King. If I had given up Theodore, I certainly wasn’t going to settle for less.
Rhys didn’t push for a response to his subtle advance. He simply nodded, his manner remaining gentle.
“If all goes well, I might have an answer for you tonight,” he said.
“That would be wonderful,” I replied, my smile widening. “I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
As we parted ways, I calculated my next move. If I could help Ethan secure the rights to Lily’s final healing chronicle, the company’s success would ensure his continued affection and support. So what if I’d lost one talent competition to Amelia? Compared to the business advantages I could provide, that was nothing!
(Amelia’s POV)
“Stay for lunch with me?” Theodore asked after we’d sent Ronan and Isla away from Stillwater Estate.
I nodded, curious. “Who’s cooking?”
Theodore simply picked up his phone and made a quick call, summoning the pack house chef to prepare our meal. I couldn’t help but laugh at how easily he commanded such luxury.

An hour later, I leaned back on the sofa, completely satisfied after the most delicious meal I’d
had in ages.
“If I ate like this every day, I’d definitely gain weight,” I sighed contentedly, patting my
stomach.
Theodore’s golden eyes traveled over my slender frame. “You have plenty of room to fill out,” he observed with a small smile.
“How do you resist overeating with food this good?” I asked, genuinely curious.
“Since my legs make regular exercise difficult, I have to be careful with my diet,” he admitted. “I need to maintain my physique. Wouldn’t want my future mate to be disappointed.”
My interest piqued immediately. “Oh? So you’re saying you have a good body under those fancy clothes?”
“I believe you’d find it satisfactory,” he replied, his confidence unmistakable.
I raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced. “I think I need visual confirmation.”
Theodore turned to Marcus, who had been standing quietly by the door. “Marcus, you can
leave us for a while.”
Marcus shot his Alpha an exasperated look before departing, closing the door firmly behind
him.
I realized I’d been so focused on Theodore’s injured legs these past days that I’d completely neglected to appreciate the rest of him. A serious oversight on my part.
I approached him with deliberate steps, aware that my voice had taken on a mischievous quality. “I’m not even going to pretend I have pure intentions right now.”
Theodore spread his arms accommodatingly, his golden eyes dancing with amusement.
My fingers worked nimbly at his shirt buttons. I told myself I was simply curious about his physique–nothing more. As each button came undone, revealing more of his chest and abdomen, my eyes widened appreciatively.
“Impressive,” I murmured, taking in the defined muscles of his chest and the perfect ridges of his abs. “Very impressive.”
“Glad I didn’t disappoint,” he replied, his voice deeper than usual.
After I’d looked my fill, I carefully rebuttoned his shirt, deliberately including the top two
buttons at his collar that he usually left open.

“There,” I said firmly. “Keep it all covered up. No other women get to see this.”
(Amelia’s POV)
I settled back onto the sofa, feeling quite pleased with myself, when my phone rang. Glancing at the screen, I was surprised to see Rhys Calder’s name.

The heir to the Obsidian River Pack was an interesting character. Like his father, who had once abandoned his responsibilities to pursue black magic in remote regions, Rhys had his own obsession–collecting ancient healing knowledge and historical texts rather than focusing on pack leadership.
It was actually Rhys who had first suggested I compile my healing knowledge into chronicles. But since he spent most of his time in Northgate City while I remained in my remote pack, our communication had been limited.
I answered the call, curious about his sudden contact.
“Amelia, it’s me, Rhys,” came his clear, cultured voice. “I have a favor to ask of you.”
