Chapter 79: Will Lily Agree to Meet?
Chapter 79: Will Lily Agree to Meet?
(Amelia’s POV)
I watched Jaxon pace back and forth, his brow furrowed with worry. The concern etched across his face made my heart clench.
“Dad, you don’t need to worry so much,” I said gently. “I can protect myself.”
Jaxon stopped pacing and fixed me with a serious gaze. “No matter what, I can’t help but worry. What if something happens when I’m not around?”
He ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident in his movements. “If you weren’t so capable and mentally strong, a normal child would have been broken by Adrian’s family long ago.”
Seraphina placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Just let him find a solution, Amelia. Otherwise, he won’t sleep tonight.”
I nodded reluctantly. There was something touching about his concern, even if I found it
unnecessary.
After dinner, Jaxon’s face brightened as he snapped his fingers. “I’ve got it! My company can develop a special device for you to wear. If your heart rate shows any abnormality indicating danger, it will automatically deliver an electric shock for defense.”
His eyes gleamed with excitement. “And I’ll receive an immediate alert so I can rush to your
side.”
I bit back a smile. The number of dangers that could actually make my heart rate spike was extremely limited. Still, the warmth spreading through my chest at his concern was undeniable.
“I promise I’ll wear it,” I agreed. “And I’ll keep myself safe, I promise.”
Jaxon’s expression softened as he reached out to squeeze my hand. “I know you’ve had to be strong on your own for so long. But now, Seraphina and I want to share your burdens. We want you to enjoy the carefree days you deserve at your age.”
Something strange happened then. A lump formed in my throat, and my eyes began to sting. I, who had never broken down in tears through all my years of hardship, was suddenly on the verge of crying from his simple words of care.

Night had fallen. In the backseat of the car heading toward the Stone family estate, Caleb scrolled furiously through his social media feed. His face darkened with each swipe of his finger.
“What the hell is going on?” he snapped at Ethan. “No matter how many times we suppress these negative topics about me, they climb back to the top trending list every hour!”
Ethan took the phone, his eyes narrowing as he analyzed the posts. “It looks like someone’s deliberately working against us. They’ve hired professional trolls to keep this going.”
“It must be Amelia,” Caleb spat.
Ethan shook his head. “She doesn’t have that kind of money. It’s more likely a rival company trying to take advantage of the situation and crush you completely.”
He handed the phone back. “I’ll have the PR department investigate. In the meantime, stay off social media. Things should improve after your agent releases a statement.”
Caleb tossed his phone aside with a disgusted snort. “Hmph! Cowards hiding in the shadows, trying to stop my rise to fame. I’ll succeed just to spite these pathetic losers!”
After the driver parked in the garage, Ethan grabbed his cane with one hand and picked up a bag with the other. He turned to Caleb before limping away.
“Go on ahead. I need to deliver these gardening tools to Amelia for the antidote.”
Caleb stood frozen, watching his brother’s limping figure heading toward The Briarwood House. Hatred for Amelia burned deeper in his chest.
Since that wild girl had returned, everything had gone wrong for their family. Even Ethan had lost his former glory, reduced to this humiliating state. Their parents had been right not to welcome her back–she brought nothing but misfortune.
Just then, a sweet voice interrupted his dark thoughts. Celine was stepping out of a car, bidding farewell to a man inside.
Caleb eyed the mid–range sedan with disdain. “Is that your friend who claims to know Lily? Doesn’t look very impressive to me. Are you sure he’s not lying to get close to you?”
“He wouldn’t lie,” Celine replied confidently. Her eyes lit up as she spotted Ethan. “Oh, Ethan’s back too? I have great news for him–Lily has agreed to meet with him!”

As they hurried after Ethan, Celine’s smile faded slightly. Why was Ethan visiting Amelia? Was he trying to get closer to her too? The thought made her stomach twist with unease.
Ethan had called Amelia in advance. “I’ve prepared all the gardening tools you asked for.”
“Wait for me at the front door,” she instructed.
Ten minutes later, Amelia carefully inspected the hoes, shovels, rakes, and fertilizer Ethan had brought. Satisfied, she took out a small bottle and shook a pill into his palm.
“Good work,” she said coldly. “Tomorrow, make time to start digging. I need an acre of land
cultivated.”
While accepting the pill, Ethan’s eyes secretly studied the bottle in her hand, memorizing its appearance. He’d have someone steal it later.
“You have three days,” Amelia warned. “If you fail, there won’t be another antidote.”
Ethan swallowed his humiliation and nodded stiffly. As he turned to leave, Celine’s voice rang out behind him.
“Ethan! We have amazing news!” Caleb announced excitedly. “Lily has agreed to meet with you!”
Ethan’s eyes immediately brightened with surprise and delight.
Inside the doorway, Amelia’s eyes flickered at the mention of “Lily.” She thought to herself: Oh? Could Rhys’s friend possibly be Celine?
