Chapter 98: A Desperate Apology
Chapter 98: A Desperate Apology
(Celine’s POV)
I stared at Ethan, my heart pounding against my ribs. His dead eyes held something that made my blood freeze.
“What message?” I forced myself to ask again.
Claim
Ethan’s voice was flat and emotionless. “Rhys Calder is the Alpha’s son of the Calder Pack. He’s the sole heir to the family that controls the most advanced medical resources in the territory.”
The words hit me like lightning. My vision blurred and the room spun around me.
No. This couldn’t be real.
My legs gave out completely. I collapsed onto the sofa, my body trembling uncontrollably.
Rhys. The quiet, humble boy I’d mocked and dismissed. The one I’d called a “country bumpkin” and “worthless peasant.”
He was the heir to one of the most powerful packs in existence.
The Calder Pack controlled the finest pharmaceutical technology in the werewolf world. They owned rare herb cultivation bases that other packs could only dream of accessing. They were one of the oldest werewolf families, second only to the Alpha King himself.
And I had insulted him. Humiliated him. Thrown his feelings back in his face like garbage.
“No,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “This can’t be happening.”
Adrian’s shock lasted only seconds. Then his eyes lit up with a greedy fire that made my stomach turn.
“Celine,” he said, his voice low and threatening. “Do you understand what you’ve done?”
I couldn’t speak. Couldn’t breathe.
“For years,” Adrian continued, his tone growing more dangerous, “Stone River Botanicals has tried to establish connections with the Calder Pack. We’ve begged for partnerships. Pleaded for access to their resources.”
His hands clenched into fists. “And you. You stupid, shallow girl. You had their heir in your

palm and you threw him away.”
“I didn’t know,” I gasped. “How could I have known?”
“You didn’t want to know!” Adrian roared. “You judged him by his clothes and his quiet manner. You couldn’t see past your own arrogance!”
Claim
Livia grabbed my arm roughly. “Fix this,” she hissed. “Whatever it takes, you fix this right now.”
Adrian’s voice dropped to a deadly whisper. “You will contact Rhys immediately. You will apologize for every cruel word, every dismissive look, every moment of disrespect.”
“But he won’t-”
“He will,” Adrian cut me off. “Because you’re going to grovel. You’re going to beg. And you’re going to convince him to forgive this family.”
His eyes bored into mine. “If you succeed, I’ll give you shares in the company. Real power in this family.”
“And if I fail?” I whispered.
“Then you’ll have nothing,” he said simply. “No inheritance. No place in this pack. Nothing.”
The threat hung in the air like a blade. I nodded weakly, my mind spinning with panic.
How could I face Rhys after what I’d said? How could I possibly make this right?
“I’ll try,” I managed to say.
“You’ll succeed,” Adrian corrected coldly. “Failure isn’t an option.”
I stood on shaking legs. “I need to call him. And check on Caleb.”
It was a lie. I just needed to escape this suffocating room.
Adrian waved me away dismissively. “Go. And remember – everything depends on this.”
I stumbled toward the door, my vision still blurry with shock and tears.
As soon as I left, I could hear Adrian’s voice change behind the closed door. The warmth. disappeared completely.
“Ethan,” he said, his tone ice–cold. “If we can’t change the old man’s mind, then we change the game.”
“What do you mean?” Ethan asked.

“Before you hand over Starlight Entertainment, you destroy it,” Adrian said simply. “Leave Amelia with nothing but ruins and debt.”
“I understand,” Ethan replied, his voice equally cold.

But Ethan had his own plans. As soon as he left the hospital, he pulled out a secure phone and dialed a number he’d memorized years ago.
“It’s me,” he said when someone answered. “I need a job done tonight.”
“What kind of job?”
“There’s a white vial in a hospital room. I need it stolen.”
“Payment?”
“Double your usual rate.”
“Consider it done.”
Ethan ended the call and smiled coldly. If he was going down, he’d take everyone with him.
(Amelia’s POV)
A gentle knock interrupted my thoughts. The door opened and Rhys stepped in, carrying a beautiful flower basket.
“Rhys!” I smiled, genuinely happy to see him.
Seraphina looked up curiously. I quickly made introductions.
“Seraphina, this is Rhys Calder. He was my neighbor and closest friend back in Meadow Brook.”
Seraphina’s eyes widened slightly. She’d heard the conversation about the Calder Pack heir just minutes ago. Now she was looking at my friend with new understanding.
Her expression showed amazement at the connections I’d kept hidden. She studied Rhys with fresh eyes, seeing past his modest appearance to the power he represented.
“It’s wonderful to meet you,” Seraphina said warmly. “Amelia has mentioned you often.”
“The pleasure is mine,” Rhys replied politely. “I hope you don’t mind me visiting.”
“Of course not,” Seraphina said quickly. “Actually, I should go get dinner for Amelia. Agnes is preparing something special.”
She gave me a meaningful look. “I’ll be back later. You two catch up.”

After she left, Rhys pulled a chair closer to my bed. His expression was teasing but concerned.
Clair
“So,” he said, settling into the chair. “If I hadn’t seen the news, I never would have known you’d landed yourself in the hospital.”
I shrugged casually. “Just some scratches and bruises. Nothing serious.”
“Amelia,” his tone grew serious. “What really happened? The reports are saying it was an accident, but…”
“But you know me better than that,” I finished with a cold smile.
“Exactly.”
I leaned back against my pillows. “Caleb tampered with my brake lines. He wanted me dead.”
Rhys’s jaw tightened. “That bastard.”
“But I knew,” I continued. “I calculated the exact angle and speed needed to turn his trap against him.”
“You’re insane,” Rhys said, shaking his head. “You could have been killed.”
“But I wasn’t,” I pointed out. “And now Caleb’s the one in a coma.”
“Still. The risk-”
His phone buzzed loudly, interrupting our conversation. He glanced at the screen and his expression immediately darkened.
The name flashing on the display made his lip curl with disgust: Celine.
