Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 33

Reagan’s POV

“The rogue has been dealt with.” It took my brain a few seconds to register the words that came out of Kevin’s mouth. He could’t have been referring to Sam. Not my Sam. Not the woman who saved me, the woman I swore to protect with my life. Callan demanded answers and unleashed his aura with such intensity that I feared for anyone who wasn’t affected by it.

His aura instantly incapacitated the guards. He tried forcing a shift, but that wouldn’t get me the information I needed. “What do you mean, dealt with?” | yelled angrily. I rushed over and grabbed Kevin by the collar. Balancing myself carefully. “Tell me, where is she? Is she alive?” My heart beat rapidly as I waited for him to answer me. The intensity of Callan’s aura meant Kevin couldn’t move, never mind speak. Callan also realized this and calmed a little so I could at least get an answer.

As I waited, I looked at Caspian. He was sniffing the air, and his-eyes kept flickering as his wolf tried to push forward. Something was bothering him. I would normally have gone to him, as a concern for him is a concern for me.

But right now, Sam was my priority.

“The rogue.” Kevin managed to stutter. “The rogue. She was taken to the dungeon.” Seeing red, I punched him in the face, knocking me off balance, causing me to fall over.

If I had had the time, I might have carried on punching him. But knowing Sam was alive, and she was in the place of her nightmares, I had to get to her.

“She’s no damned rogue,” I snarled as I got up, snatching my crutch off the ground. When I could, I made my way down, out of the door and into the hallway. Caspian appeared by my side..

“Use me. We’ll get there faster.” He told me. I discarded my crutch and wrapped my arm around my brother’s broad shoulder. He was right. We did get there faster. But as the dungeon was at the back of the palace, it still took us over ten minutes to get there. That’s ten minutes Sam had suffered unnecessarily.

As we arrived at the entrance of the dungeon, Cody, one of the older guards, stood in front of the door. His face told me he was shocked to see me. He was about to say something, but I had no time to waste. As he stood between me and getting to Sam, “Get out of the way,” I snarled.

He must have known how angry I was, as his hands shook as he handed over the keys to me. I snatched them and inserted the key into the lock. Knowing that Sam was down there alone and terrified, my heart broke. How is she ever going to forgive me for this? How am I ever going to forgive myself? “You get down there and you find her.

Then you grovel for her forgiveness.” Callan reminded me that nothing could happen while I was standing there.

I pulled open the door, and Sam’s scent hit me. I bit my lip and fought back my tears, knowing that this was Sam’s worst nightmare coming to life. I grabbed the rail, making my way toward her, all the while knowing this was my fault. I was supposed to keep her safe. I was supposed to protect her.

I could hear her soft cries as she begged, “Let me go,” and”.

I didn’t do anything.”

“I’m coming, Sam. Don’t be scared,” | yelled. Knowing how scared she would be. It wasn’t long before I heard nothing but her rapid breathing. Fearing the worst, I threw myself down the stairs to get to her faster. Hitting the bottom, think I cracked at least one rib, but Callan will heal that.

Unable to walk, I crawled toward the cells where, no doubt, Sam was. “I’m coming, Sam,” I cried out. I wanted her to know help was coming.

As I got closer to her, my heart broke. She had been stripped naked, and her hands were chained to the wall.

Her eyes were closed as she tried to catch her breath.

“Whose orders were you following?” I asked, knowing full well that whoever he named was going to be killed.

He looked over his shoulder. “Look,” Caspian said. I turned, and Caspian was holding his hands up defensively and walking toward me, which was a mistake. Because, despite him being my brother, he did this. I punched him so hard that it sent him flying.

“Get him, he assaulted the Alpha King,” a young voice called out.

“I am the Alpha King,” I responded angrily. How can he not recognize me?

Caspian got to his feet, clutching his chest. “Reagan, you were declared dead. The day after your funeral, the wolf council insisted the next in line be appointed to the throne.” I looked at my brother, the new Alpha King. I have been replaced. Which means there is no place for me here.

Phillip appeared in the doorway. “Sam and I are leaving.”

“No. We need to talk about this.” Caspian paused. “Reagan, I lost my brother once. I can’t lose him again. I won’t give up on family.” He was right. We only had one another.

Could I walk out on him without knowing everything? He looked over at Sam and stepped toward her. I went to lunge at him, and he stopped. “Reagan, I can’t lose my brother. But I also can’t lose my mate.” Tears rolled down his face. If Sam is Caspian’s mate, and he ordered this. I am not sure she will ever forgive him. Heck, I am not even sure he will ever forgive himself.
