Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 35

Reagan’s POV

When I said I was leaving, it wasn’t because I heard I was no longer the Alpha King. I didn’t care about Caspian being appointed in my absence. It was logical. He was next in line, after all.

No, I based my decision on Sam. Witnessing her mistreatment firsthand and seeing how she had been affected both mentally and physically. It was clear to me that her well-being was a lot more important than the throne.

But when Caspian referred to Sam as his mate, that changed everything. I would never interfere with a mate bond. Especially when it comes to the people I care about.

Now, all I can do is wait for Sam to wake up and let her figure out if it is something she wishes to pursue this blessing. If she chooses to return to her life in the human city, I don’t know what I will do. I’ll have to pick between her and my brother.

“Maybe that’s why the goddess put you in Sam’s path? Or why we feel so connected to her? We were destined to be family,” Callan suggested.

“It’s a valid point, but surely there must have been a better way. After all, it was me, the goddess, screwed over if that were the case,” I responded. Surely the goddess wasn’t that desperate for them to meet.I instructed Philip to take Sam to the guest suite in the wet wing while I waited for her to wake up. I had no choice but to use my brother to help me get there. It was that or humiliate myself in front of the people I used to command, and that wasn’t happening. As he held me, I could feel how tense he was. I looked over at him a couple of times to see him holding back his tears. I wanted to comfort him. But he didn’t deserve it.

I stopped Caspian from entering the suite room to prevent his scent from lingering. If Zola sensed her mate when Sam woke up, Sam would likely freak out. I didn’t need her stressing about the mate bond on top of what she had already been through. “She’s on the bed,” Phillip told me as he was leaving.

“Before you leave, can you get me a few things?” I asked him. He looked at Caspian, who nodded his head. “First, Sam’s mobile phone was in the car outside. Her sister will no doubt be calling soon. She’s also going to need some clothes.”

“‘ll organize that.” Caspian interrupted. I shook my head.” You have something else to do.” Caspian looked at me. “In the dungeon, Sam was chained to the wall naked.” The sight of her may never leave my mind. He growled and punched a wall. “Was there a reason for that other than to humiliate her?” Caspian ground his teeth.

“She was what? Someone saw her naked?” he yelled.

“I can answer that,” Phillip said fearfully. He took a step closer to me. “It was the new policy the Alpha King signed off on. I don’t remember it word for word. But it goes something like. All detainees in the dungeon are to be stripped and searched for concealed weapons.” Caspian’s face turned red, and he ground his teeth.

“That’s not true.” He yelled at Phillip. “I want to see that document, Phillip. If you’re lying to me. If you’re trying to embarrass me. I will kill you.” He growled at him. Not

– wanting to face Caspian’s wrath, he ran off. Caspian was about to say something when Sam screamed.

“No. No. No,” she yelled through her screams. Caspian tried to push past me, but I stopped him by placing my hand on his chest. “Please just let me die.” Sam cried out.

It’s not my place to tell him what Sam went through, but he should know what he is up against.

“I left when Alison and Tara fought over who loved you the most. That you were on the verge of making them your chosen mate? They believed they should have been compensated for their loss. Seeing that they would never be the Luna Queen,” I was confused, as I hadn’t seen either of those gold-digging she-wolves for years. “I was making a run for it when I ran into Evelyn on the stairs. She was so upset over your death. I comforted her. Then she comforted me, and you saw how it ended.”

I looked at my brother. “You are so stupid. The only thing Evelyn found in you was the opportunity to make a connection with the new Alpha King.”

“What, no? I wasn’t Alpha King then,” he scoffed. “I don’t see her like that, anyway. I see her as a plaything. While I waited for my mate to show up.”

“She tried the same with me. You were just next in line.

Mark my words, Caspian. Evelyn thinks more of your relationship than you do. Trust me.” It did get me thinking, though. One of the reasons I was going to see Alpha Sunak was to get Evelyn away from the palace. She had become overbearing, and I was going to deal with that when I was dealing with his rogue situation. What if my attack was a cleverly concocted plan by Evelyn because l wasn’t interested in her?

So that she could worm her way in with the new Alpha King? But then again, she would have gotten her claws into Caspian before she tried to have me killed. Nah, that is too far-fetched a plan for Evelyn. She’s not the smartest of people. Or maybe that’s what she wants us to think.
