Reagan’s POV
“Your plan is stupid. You’re an idiot if you think this will win Ellie over.
She will see right through it.” Callan informed me.
” I have to try Callan. I’m desperate. If not for my sake, for Caspian’s,” I told him ast removed my prosthesis and my clothes. Placing them safely in the car.
I then shifted so that Callan could get himself into the woods. He found a comfortable spot behind a bush. It had a good view, and it wasn’t long before I heard sirens. Men with torches came racing through the woods shouting. Not long afterward, she appeared
Using her sense of smell, she found Callan quickly. “Was all of this his idea, Callan? It was an awful plan,” Ellie asked Callan, who whimpered and sniffed her, causing her to snicker.
“She likes me a hell of a lot better than she likes you,” Callan mocked. I was jealous because he was right; he had Ellie laughing. He even licked her, and she enjoyed it.
” I hate you,” I told Callan, who didn’t care as he was getting petted.
“Don’t give me those puppy eyes, Callan, you know what he did,” Ellie said. “You are a handsome wolf, aren’t you? It’s no wonder Kiki likes you.” Ellie complimented Callan, who went crazy to hear that Kiki liked him. Ellie then came to her senses and stood up. “They think a wolf hurt a human. If they see you, they will shoot to kill until a human is found.” She paused. “You’re going to have to shift, and I will help that idiot back to his car.” She said with an unhappy tone in her voice.
Callan did as instructed and shifted. I sat there naked. I could feel Ellie checking me out, which pleased me. “Despite not liking you, I don’t want your death on my hands,” she told me as she pulled me off the ground and wrapped my arm over her shoulder. I still towered over her, but it meant I got to touch her.
I deliberately took my time so that I could be near Ellie. “Does it still hurt? My mark?” I asked Ellie. I feel bad that she may be in pain.
“Yes, it does. But I would rather bear the pain than be mated to you.”
“Ouch, you don’t have to say it like you hate me. I did it to save those dozens of people. I did it to save you, Ellie. Was I wrong?”
“I don’t hate what you did, Reagan. I am grateful someone managed to stop me. But it shouldn’t have happened. I let my guard down and allowed myself to love Sam. This is why I need to be away from everyone and their drama. I am dangerous.”
She didn’t say she hated wearing my mark. is there a chance? “You are dangerous, Ellie. But only in the wrong situation.” I told Ellie sympathetically. As we made it to my car, she helped me sit down. My- phone was buzzing, and I looked at the caller ID. Phillip’s name was on the screen. I ignored it; no doubt he was calling about Sasha.
“Where is Sasha?” I asked.
“At my clinic, caring for some abandoned puppies. They were all over her,” Ellie smiled. “She loved it”
I reached over to get my clothes when my phone rang again. Phillip wouldn’t.be annoyed at Sasha having a good time. So, I answered it. “Is everything okay?” I said, answering the phone and looking at Ellie.
“Drive where? Who are you calling?” I asked.
“Phillip. You have to stop the attack on the rogue camp.”
“Why?” I heard him say.
“Sam’s there.” She yelled. I’m sure my heart stopped beating as she said those words. But my instincts kicked in, and I snatched the phone off Ellie, putting it to my ear.
“Tell Caspian. Tell Caspian that Sam’s life is in danger. He has to get to her before the Royal Guard does,” I said, pressing the paddle on the steering wheel.
Ellie was going mad. “It might be best for Sasha to stay here in South View. I wouldn’t want her exposed to your angry scent.” I told Ellie, who agreed, and called her clinic and explained the situation to Sasha. Who agreed with the decision we had made? “Someone needs to look after these innocent puppies while you’re gone, Ellie,” Sasha told her. No doubt, it would be a concern for Ellie at some point in this journey.
“Drive faster,” Ellie yelled at me. She was right. Sam’s life is in danger. I needed to get to her as fast as I could. But no matter what, we are half a day away. Sam’s only chance is Caspian. “Please, goddess. Please let Caspian get to her in time. Please don’t let anything happen to her. Not again.” I prayed silently.
