Chapter 122
Aeson’s POV
The door opens softly, and Mom walks in. My heart leaps the moment I see her. She actually came to check on me. For a second, everything feels warm again.
Mom looks at me with a slightly furrowed brow. “How are you feeling, Aeson? Is anything still bothering you?”
I almost tell her I’m fine. But then the image of Robin lying in her arms flashes in my mind her gentle voice, her worried eyes all for him. The warmth disappears.
“I’m still feeling a little unwell,” I say instead, keeping my voice
weak.
Mom’s expression changes immediately. She sits on the edge of the bed and gently places her hand on my forehead, her touch soft and full of concern.
“You must be really scared after everything that happened. It’s okay to feel unwell. You should follow all the hospital procedures diligently, alright? Rest properly, take your medicine, and let the doctors do their job. I don’t want you hiding any discomfort.”
Her
worry feels real. For a moment, it makes me feel special! 5:10

But the jealousy is still burning inside me.
“Why didn’t you include me in your plan?” I blurt out, my eyes stinging. “You went to the amusement park with Robin and didn’t even tell me. If you wanted me to come, why didn’t you say something?”
Mom pauses. Her voice becomes soft, almost sad. “I didn’t know you had any time for me in your schedule anymore, Aeson.”
Before I can stop myself, the question bursts out of my mouth.
“If both Robin and I were in danger, who would you rescue first? Will you still come to save me, or that brat?”
Mom frowns deeply. “Aeson, that’s not a nice thing to say, Robin saved your life today. And as for your question, I’ll naturally go to the kid who needs me more at that moment—”
“But it’s not fair!” I can’t hold back anymore. “That stupid Robin… always acting like a hero. I hate him!”
Mom’s expression turns stern. She looks at me with disappointment that hurts more than I expected.
“Aeson, we should show gratitude towards those who have done us a favour, not become more entitled. Robin risked his life to save you today. Without him, you might have been seriously hurt. You should be thanking him, not cursing him.”

“But I’m your son. Why would you go to save him before me? You’re supposed to stand by me no matter what! You’re supposed to choose me, only me!”
Mom looks at me strangely.
“By that logic, I’m your mom, but have you ever made plans just to stay with me? Or stood by me? Do you remember when you testified against me for pushing Ms. Volkov down the stairs? You made me apologize to her, and you were wrong.”
My defiance wavers. “I didn’t see clearly back then. You’re my mom, so why do you have to argue with me about everything?”
She isn’t shouting, but even her calm words are making me extremely upset right now.
“Does being a mom mean I have to be your doormat? Trust goes both ways, Aeson. Remember this, it will take you far in life.”
Aires‘ POV
I stand at the doorway, watching the exchange with a heavy knot forming in my stomach. Guilt had been eating away at me ever since the warehouse… seeing Talia fight so desperately for our son, the raw fear and love in her eyes.
When just hours ago, I had accused her so viciously, believed

the worst of her without evidence. At first, I truly regretted it. I wanted to apologize, to tell her I had been wrong.
But hearing her speak to Aeson like this, so stern, like she was almost scolding him, that too in this fragile state- irritation flares inside me.
This wasn’t the gentle, caring mother I remembered her as, she had never talked to our son like this before.
I speak up, my voice cutting through the tension.
“Now you have found a replacement family, so you’re scolding him so fiercely?”
I cut in sharply, my voice loud in the quiet hospital room. “He was just kidnapped, Talia. He went through hell today. And here you are lecturing him instead of comforting him. Aren’t you scared for him at all?”
Aeson flinches beside her, while Talia’s eyes flash with disbelief and restrained anger. She stands up slowly, her posture straight and controlled.
“Let’s step outside. We shouldn’t argue in front of him.”
I follow her into the hallway. The fluorescent lights feel too harsh, casting cold white light on the sterile walls. My heart is
gunding, partly with guilt, partly with frustration and partly:10

with something heavier I don’t want to name.
The moment the door closes behind us, she turns to me with fire blazing in her eyes.
“What the hell was that?!”
“You tell me, Talia! He’s clearly traumatized. And instead of holding him, you’re scolding him? Clearly, you don’t care about your son a anymore- the one you once considered more precious than your own life. Look at how coldly you’re speaking to him!”
Talia crosses her arms, her gaze steady and unflinching.
“I don’t want to coddle him when he’s wrong, Aires. That’s exactly how children become spoiled. Robin risked his life to save your son. Aeson needs to learn gratitude, not entitlement.”
Her words hit me harder than expected. For a second, I feel exposed. I had come here wanting to apologize, but the moment I opened my mouth, the old anger and distrust towards her slipped out again.
Damn it! Why is it so difficult to just say sorry to her?
I clear my throat, trying to switch gears as I feel the guilt rising again. I rub the back of my neck, trying to force the apology out, but the Alpha pride that has ruled me for years makes it rough10

and clumsy.
“Talia… look. I may have been too harsh on the phone earlier. But I saw how you fought for him at the warehouse. That was… brave of you. But you also shouldn’t have let things escalate like this. If you hadn’t been so irresponsible to leave the house like this, he wouldn’t have been so desperate to see you and won’t be an easy target for the kidnappers-”
“What are you trying to say, Alpha Aires-

“Just that, if you had communicated properly at first instead of letting everything blow up like this, maybe none of this would have happened. We both made mistakes here-”
Talia lets out a short, bitter laugh, cutting me off.
“Save it, Aires. I don’t need your arrogant, half–hearted apologies where you’re still trying to run from the blame.”
“Talia-”
“Meet me tomorrow at 10 AM. Outside the courthouse- I want a clean break, without any demands. And as far as Aeson is concerned, I still felt responsible for him, that’s why I decided to teach him some good values. Once the divorce is finalized, you can raise him however you wish.”
Hey rejection stuns me into silence.

She doesn’t even wait for me to respond before she turns away and walks down the hallway, where toward Raymond is waiting for her, holding his son’s hand.
I watch as Robin gently slides his hand into hers, walking in between them while limping slightly.
They look like a couple taking care of their injured son, and the sight sends a sharp, painful ache twisting through my chest jealousy, regret, and a deep sense of loss all crashing together as I stand there alone under the cold hospital lights, fists clenched tightly at my sides.
