Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 140

Chapter 137

Imema’s POV

I freeze. Something in Airestone catches me off guard. It does not sound cold or impatient.

My fingers curl into my palm.

Talia’s voice is calm, matteroffact. Imema cut her hand

while she was picking out the herbs. You had better take her back and get her to the hospital for a checkup.

I watch her face, trying to read her expression. She looks almost bored, as if summoning my Alpha to her side is something she does every day.

His voice drops a notch, and even from where I stand, I can hear the worry creeping in. Is it serious?

Talia glances at my hand. Come over and have a look yourself.

Before he can respond, a woman’s voice crackles through the speaker. Olivia, his secretary.

There is a muffled exchange, and then Aires’s voice returns, directed at Talia now. I have got a meeting coming up shortly and cannot leave for the moment. If her wound is not too serious, ask Jack to help bandage it up first.

But Talia does not back down. Her situation is kind of

special. We do not dare to bandage her casually.

I blink. What the hell is she playing at?

If her wound takes a turn for the worse and gets infected, and then you put the blame on us, we cannot be held responsible for that.

She pauses, letting her words hang in the air. Imema’s health is so important. You really should take her to the hospital for a checkup.

This bitch is using me and my words to manipulate him. The audacity!

Aires’s voice chimes again. Send me a photo. Let me see the wound.

Talia shakes her head, even though he can’t see her. Neither photos nor videos can truly reflect the extent of

here and she ends up losing too much blood and fainting, or if anything else goes wrong with her, we will not be held accountable.

Before he can respond, she hangs up.

I stare at her, genuinely shocked. What is her intention in making this call? Is she using me as an excuse to hassle him? But even if he shows up, it is to see me.

What does it have to do with her?

Talia sets the phone down and picks up her cutlery again. She carries on with her lunch as if nothing has happened. Jack does the same and Robin follows their lead, reaching for another piece of meat.

I am left standing there, my wounded finger forgotten, my stomach growling audibly. I skipped breakfast this morning. I had intended to have lunch with Aires, a nice meal where I could tell him about the indignities I have suffered here. But instead, I was left behind by this old tyrant, forced to pick herbs like a servant while they ate.

My stomach growls again. I press my hand against it, yilling it to be quiet.

That’s why I let Talia make that call, I was fretting over how to let him know about how badly I have been wronged here, and she handed me the perfect opportunity.

When he arrives, he will see me, not her. He will take me away from this wretched place, and she can go back to grinding her stupid powders.

An hour later, Aires walks through the door.

By then, they have already finished eating. Robin is across the room, selecting medicinal materials while Talia sits at the mortar, grinding herbs into powder, the rhythmic scrape of stone against stone setting my teeth on edge.

I don’t get up from my chair facing the door, waiting for him.

The moment I see him step through the doorway, my heart leaps. His broad shoulders, his confident stride, the way his eyes scan the room until they find me. Everything about him is solid, reassuring, mine.

His eyes go immediately to my hand. How is your hand?

I pull my hands behind my back in a quick, skittish movement. It is just a scratch. I am all healed now.

He frowns. Before I can pull away, he reaches out and yanks my hand from behind my back, holding it up to

examine.

There isn’t any scar on my hand anymore. The thorn prick has long since stopped bleeding, the skin already closed. Just as I said, it healed.

Aires’s gaze swings toward Talia, and his voice drops to something low and dangerous. Are you teasing me on purpose?

I almost smile. This is what I wanted. Let him see how she

wastes his time, how she manufactures crises to drag him away from his work. Let him be angry at her.

But before Talia can even open her mouth, Robin chimes in from across the room.

Mr. Perseus, instead of asking what is really going 03:59

you just barge in here and blame Talia.

Robin continues, his words tumbling out. It was Imema who showed up here wailing in pain. She said her

situation is special right now and that she could bleed like crazy easily.

My heart gives a hard thump.

She also said that she cut her finger last week,Robin goes on, and you were so freaked out that you insisted on taking her to the hospital for a checkup. You even got a blood bag ready in advance.

Aires’s expression is shifting. The anger is still there, but something else is creeping in. Confusion. Doubt.

Turns out,Robin says, there was this patient in the hospital who was bleeding badly and had her blood bags taken away temporarily just because of this. You got so pissed off that you fired all the doctors.

The room goes very quiet.

Adults can lie, but children? Children typically do not lie. They are simple creatures who say what they see and hear. And Robin has just recounted details that only Aires and

I should know. Details I told Talia specifically to

< Chapter 137

Now those same details are being used against me.

Just then, Jack emerges from the back room, a few medicine bottles in his hand. He doesn’t even look at Aires directly, just shuffles toward his workbench. Yeah,he says, his voice dry as old paper. That is exactly what she told us. Otherwise, we would not have dared to bandage her up.

Aires turns to me. His gaze is heavy, searching. Imema, is this truly what happened?

My fists clench at my sides. It slipped my mind, these people are Talia’s friends. Of course they would take her side. Of course they would twist my words and make me look foolish.

My thoughts race. I need an excuse, something that explains why I said those things without making me look like I was boasting- or worse, lying.

I find my voice quickly. I heard that all drugs have some toxicity. I accidentally cut my hand and I was kind of freaked out about getting an infection at that moment.

even as brave as a fiveyearold kid. That is why I said that.

I lift my head and take a quick look at Aires before continuing. Besides, I did not mention a single word about Talia back then. It was you who came charging in and did not even bother to ask what was going on, just straight up accused her of playing tricks on you.

I am telling the truth, technically. I didn’t say anything about Talia. Whatever conclusions he jumped to, that is his own doing.

The atmosphere in the room turns icy.

I see it on Aires’s facethe realization that he has been

backed into a corner.

For a moment, no one speaks.

Then Robin’s voice cuts through the silence, innocent and devastating. Mr. Perseus, you have been unfair to Talia. Don’t you think, you should say sorry to her?
