Chapter 159
Talia’s POV
My voice is sharp, my gaze steely. “That could have cost someone their life. If a patient had taken the wrong medicine here, Mr. Carter would be held responsible!”
My tone rises as anger flickers in my eyes. I am genuinely angry now. I can tolerate Imema scheming and playing the victim in front of Aires. But I will not allow her to resort to dangerous tricks to sabotage lives just out of jealousy.
Imema glances at Aires, and I see the unease flicker across her face. His dark eyes lock onto hers.
“I… I really did not mean to…” She clenches her teeth and suddenly slams her head down onto the floor. “Ms. Perseus, I know that no matter the reason, a mistake is a mistake… I am sorry. I accept whatever punishment you give me, until you forgive me.”
She bows her head so forcefully that blood seeps from her forehead after just a few knocks.

to get the medicine for me, gone through so much… and here I am, making Ms. Perseus angry.” Her voice trembles. “I am sorry, Alpha. I have been so useless. I will take full responsibility. Even if she sends me to jail, it is fine. I just hope Ms. Perseus will not take her anger out on you.”
Aires’s eyes darken. His voice is low, menacing. “She cannot just send you to jail if she wants to. And the medicine is not something she can refuse just because she feels like it.”
Jack’s gaze meets mine, both genuinely stunned by her performance. Her acting skills are even better than Jack’s famous actress daughter-in-law.
Aires turns to me, noticing the cold sharpness in my gaze. “Since you have caught her in the act, just speak up and remind her. Why do you have to be so forceful?”
I smile lightly. “Why? It’s simple! I don’t like her.”
Aires’s gaze hardens. “I asked Imema to come here to help. Not for you to make things difficult for her.”

He turns and leaves. I shift my gaze away. Imema wants to kneel? Let her kneel. She wants to bleed? Let her bleed. I am done playing her games.
Besides, I am about to get a divorce anyway. I turn to leave, but a strong hand grabs my wrist.
Aires’s voice is low. “If you do not want a divorce, just own up to your mistakes and stop playing these childish games.”
I stop dead in my tracks, staring at him in disbelief. “What did you just say?”
His lips curl into a smug grin. “You suddenly go back on your word, refuse to give Imema her medication and demand money from me. And on top of that, you make things difficult for Imema.”
He tilts his head. “Talia, are you sure you are not doing all this just to get my attention?”
I laugh. I cannot help it. “You really are too full of yourself. Not everyone is interested in someone else’s leftovers. Even if she doesn’t mind going through my trash, I sure as hell do.”

I think about the hundred million that just landed in my account. Without a second thought, I toss the medicine to
Aires.
“I keep my promises. This is the first round of medication. If she doesn’t take it and her condition worsens, do not come crying to me.”
I jerk my arm out of his grip and turn to leave. He blocks me. “You still have not apologized to Imema.”
I lift my gaze to meet his. A soft smile tugs at my lips. “I am not apologizing. What are you going to do about it?”
His eyes narrow. Before he can speak, I cut him off.
“By the way, do not forget. I still have the rest of your darling Imema’s medication. If you keep pushing me, you can kiss it goodbye.”
I look at him, my eyes gleaming with amusement, my voice deceptively gentle. “You are the ones asking something of me. Not the other way around. Do not act like you are in charge here.”
My smile fades. My tone turns cold, my words sharp as:03 ice. “Keep testing me, and I will make you kneel instead.

life.”
I push past him and walk away.
He stands there, staring after me. This time, he does not
try to stop me.
Jack comes back from the patient’s room, his expression hard. He looks at Imema kneeling on the floor, blood still drying on her forehead, and his lip curls in disgust.
Even he, who expected the worst of her, didn’t expect Imema to be so devious. Poisoning things just to get back at us, it’s a step too far.
If I know Jack, I know he’s not about to let this time bomb stay around any longer, staying impassive until she can harm one of the patients.
Since it is supposed to be her last day here anyway, he does not waste any time kicking her out.
Imema’s POV
Under Aires’s watchful gaze, I choke down the medicine. The pill scrapes against my throat, bitter and dry, and 3.0
force myself to swallow without gagging.

When that old quack finally tells me to leave, I rise slowly, brushing off my knees. I am not angry. How could I be? I got what I wanted.
A smug, satisfied grin tugs at my lips, and I don’t bother hiding it anymore.
“Well.” I smooth down my dress, my voice light. “Since you do not need my help anymore, Mr. Carter, I will be on my way.”
I let my smile turn sweet, knowing that it will bother him endlessly.
“But if you ever need anything, feel free to reach out. If I am free, I will definitely come.”
Jack’s face turns an alarming shade of red. His beard bristles, practically standing on end. “You little snake.” His voice shakes with fury. “How can you be so heartless?”
I tilt my head, widening my eyes. “I don’t understand what you are talking about.”
But, my lips curve upward. In any case, I’m not afraid of 03 him, or Talia.

poison his precious clinic? Please. He would laugh in their faces. An old man and a stay-at-home wife against me, I like those odds.
Talia is watching me, and smiles. My grin falters for just a
second.
“Is that it?” Her voice is calm, almost conversational. “Kneeling. Slamming your head on the floor. Drawing blood. Throwing your dignity away.”
She tilts her head, studying me like I am something under a microscope. “Are you really proud of that?”
I open my mouth to answer, but she keeps going.
“Oh.” A knowing look crosses her face. Mock understanding. “I get it now. You have lost all sense of shame. What is one more kneel, one more drama? You
would sell out your own mother for a scrap of attention, wouldn’t you?”
The words hit like a slap. Hatred flickers in my chest, hot and sharp.
“You…”
