Robin’s POV

Karen pulls me into the gap between the storage shed and the gym wall, her hands trembling around my wrist. Her face is pale, and she keeps glancing over her shoulder like she is afraid someone will see us.

“My mom said that someone important told them this whole situation is really just about targeting Alpha Aires’s ex–wife, Talia.”

Karen has always been the kind of girl who lights up a room. Bubbly.Loud. The first one to laugh and the first one to defend someone being picked on. From the moment I transferred here, she decided we were going to be friends, and I found myself agreeing.

She shares her snacks with me. I share mine with her. We made a pinky promise once that when we grew up, she would be my girlfriend, and I would be her boyfriend. It felt like a big deal then.

Now it feels like nothing.

“Robin, you should stop hanging out with Ms. Green.” Karen’s voice sounds pleading. “If you ignore her, everyone will start talking to you again. Things will go back to normal.”

Karen’s face falls. She looks like I just pushed her.

“Then go away, Karen.” I pull my wrist free. “I am going to pretend I never heard any of this. But if you say something like that again, we are not friends anymore.”

Her eyes fill with tears instantly. I can see the hurt spreading across her face, red and raw.

“Robin, I am only saying this because I care about you.” Her voice cracks. “Have you seen how the other kids look at you? How they step away when you walk by?” A tear rolls down her cheek. “You promised me. You promised I could be your girlfriend. And now you are choosing her over me?”

I look at her crying face. I feel nothing.

“I do not blame you for staying away because your parents told you to.” I keep my voice steady. “But do not blame me for refusing to stay away from her.”

Karen’s mouth opens, but she does not speak.

“Here is the truth.” I look her straight in the eye. “You are not as important to me as she is. I can find other friends. But there is only one Ms. Green.”

I turn around and walk away. She starts crying behind me, and broken. I do not look back.

Everyone knows Talia used to be married to Aires. And everyone knows Aires is not a man you cross. The math is simple. Offend him, and your life becomes very difficult. Your business. Your family. Your future.

If Robin simply distances himself from Talia, things will go back to normal. That is how power works in Starlight City. Aires speaks, and the rest of the world listens. With Nick and Benjamin beside him, he controls half the economy. No one wants to be on his bad side over something as small as a child’s friendship.

The families who send their kids to this school are not ordinary people. They have reputations to protect. Contracts to sign. Deals to close. Risking all of that for a five–year–old boy is not something any of them will do.

I assumed Robin would break under the pressure. He is young. He is alone. The isolation should have crushed him by now. I expected him to cry. To complain. To beg Talia for help. To push her away just to make the torment stop.

But Robin does not seem bothered at all.

He eats when he is hungry. He studies like nothing is wrong. His test scores have not dropped. He does not look sad. He does not look angry. He just exists, calm and impenetrable, like a stone in the middle of a river.

Aeson’s POV

I keep watching Robin, waiting for him to crack. There is something deeply satisfying about seeing him sit alone while everyone else whispers behind his back. I know what that feels like. Being the one everyone avoids. The one they talk about when they think you cannot hear.

It happened to me because of mom, because she was so embarrassing and she did not fit in anywhere with my family and friends‘ families.

When I was isolated, I didn’t know how to fix it. I went to grandma, and she told me the simple trick to make sure I’m never targeted again: when I switch schools soon, I was never supposed to admit that Talia was your mother.

In fact, she said that it would be even better if I could act like she

didn’t exist at all.

I was a little skeptical, but I followed her advice, and surprisingly, it worked. No one laughed at me after that, no one dared to ignore me.

After all, there was no reason anymore. They don’t know I’m related to her, the walking and talking embarrassment.
