Chapter 220-1

Talia’s POV

My phone buzzes. Benjamin’s name lights up the screen. I

answer, and his voice comes through, warm but tinged with

something that sounds like guilt.

Lena, I am sorry. I was away on a business trip and did not know what Nick had been up to. I could not give you a

headsup.

I have never blamed Benjamin. Not once. He has helped

me more times than I can count, often at his own expense.

Mr. Moore, you have already done so much for me. I truly

appreciate it.

There is a pause on his end. A few seconds of silence stretch

between us. Then he speaks again, his voice softer.

Lena, can you call me Benjamin like you used to?

I do not think much about titles. Names are just names. Alright, Benjamin.I pause. If you ever need my help, just let

me know.

Another pause. Longer this time. Actually, there is

something.

I lean forward, curious. What is it?

Benjamin’s voice is calm, measured. I heard you are

planning a concert. Can you save me a good seat?

I blink. I am well aware of the Thorne Group and Perseus

Group’s efforts to promote me. I know they are trying to

clean up their image, desperate to ensure people do not see

them as ruthless capitalists who crush anyone who stands

in their way. I am more than happy to let them do the work

while I use the opportunity to announce my concert.

By now, my popularity online has already surpassed

Imema’s. The numbers do not lie. The engagement does not

lie. People are hungry for something real, and I am giving it

to them.

But Benjamin’s request catches me off guard. You really

want a ticket to my concert?

His voice remains calm and steady. Why? Is that a

problem?

No, it is not that.I hesitate, choosing my words carefully. Imema is holding a concert too, is she not? Are you not going to hers?

Benjamin’s tone stays gentle, unhurried. She is a very skilled violinist, no doubt. But I prefer your music. He pauses. Everyone has their own taste. I am sure Nick and Alpha will

understand.

Since he puts it that way, I cannot refuse. Alright. I will make

sure to save you the best seat in the house.

After everything with Robin and Aeson is settled, Robin

moves back into my home. His things fill the guest room

again. His small shoes line up by the door. The sound of his footsteps echoes through the hallway in the mornings.

We still need to rehearse for the foreign language

performance. The competition is looming, and there is much

work to do.

To my surprise, Robin has a natural talent for languages.

Maybe it is because he is young, his brain still soft and malleable, absorbing everything like a sponge. His memory

is sharp. After hearing something three times, he can recite it flawlessly, without stumbling over a single syllable.

We choose to perform in Frochnese. It is a beautiful

language, melodic and flowing. Robin’s Engnese is decent, but when it comes to other languages, he struggles quite a bit. The sounds do not come naturally to him. The rhythms feel foreign on his tongue.

Fortunately, the event is just a Frochnese recitation. We have

time to cram. Time to practice. Time to drill the words into his memory until they become second nature.

If it were a written exam, Robin would have difficulty getting a good score. His reading and writing lag behind his speaking. But this is oral. This is performance. And performance is where Robin shines.

The foreign language competition is just around the corner.

I can feel the anticipation building, the nervous energy crackling in the air.

Jack unexpectedly hears about the kindergarten event this

time. He calls me, his voice buzzing with excitement.

I may be an old man, but I just love watching kids perform,

Jack says with a grin that I can hear through the phone. Now

that I am retired, I might as well join in the fun whenever

there is a school event.

When Jack arrives at the venue, Robin spots him immediately.

His face lights up like the sun breaking through clouds. He throws himself into Jack’s arms, almost knocking the old man

off balance.

Mr. Carter, you are here too!

Jack ruffles Robin’s hair affectionately, his weathered fingers gentle against the boy’s dark hair. Of course! I would not miss your competition for the world.

Jack’s youthful spirit makes him and Robin click instantly. They play together like old friends, chasing each other around the courtyard, laughing at jokes only they understand. Jack gets down on his hands and knees to

inspect Robin’s stance, his posture, the way he holds his body

when he recites.

Watching them, something warm spreads through my chest.
