Chapter 263
Talia’s POV
Electra shakes her head, her expression grim. “Back then, it was that woman who called the police first. She was being completely unreasonable, and even the police could not do anything about her.”
She paces to the window and stares out at the river. “By the time she reported the incident to the police, many days had already passed. That made it much more difficult to gather evidence. Witnesses had forgotten. Physical evidence had degraded. The trail had gone cold.”
I sit forward in my chair. “So the police had no choice but to
close the case?”
Electra nods. “Later, Aunt Serena paid her money to settle the matter privately. She wanted it to go away. She wanted Rafael to be safe. So she wrote a check, and the girl left.” She turns back to face me. “If this gets exposed, it will further prove that we took the money to keep quiet. People will say we bought our way out of trouble. They will say the money was blood money.”
I have also experienced cyberbullying. I know how it feels to wake up every morning to strangers hating you, to scroll through comments that tear you apart. I know that in the current one–sided situation, no amount of explanation will be 54

useful without strong evidence. Words mean nothing. Proof means everything.
Rafael sits on the sofa with a dejected expression, without saying a word. His shoulders are slumped. His hands hang limp between his knees. He looks like a man who has been beaten down one too many times.
Talia and Electra exchange a glance. There is no need for words between us.
This kind of thing is truly devastating. They did good deeds, but didn’t receive any reward. Rafael saved a girl from assault, and she repaid him by destroying his reputation. He stayed with her when she was injured, and she rewarded him with lies.
Electra glances at Rafael, then lowers her voice. “Until some time ago, that family extorted money from Rafael for a long time. using various excuses. They said the child needed medical care. They said the grandmother was sick. They said they would go to the media if he did not pay.”

Her jaw tightens. “This time, after receiving the money, instead of leaving, they exposed the whole affair. They took his cash and then they took his name.”
She pauses for a moment, collecting herself. “I feel that this was premeditated. It was not spontaneous. It was not an accident. It isery likely that someone is deliberately targeting Rafael.” 12:54

My long eyelashes flutter slightly as a figure appears in my mind. The face is sharp, cold, familiar.
“Perhaps it is William.” The words come out flat, but beneath them flows a coldness like water in my eyes. “When I attended Mr. Moreau’s exchange meeting last time, he said some strange things to Rafael. He looked at him like he was an obstacle. He spoke to him like he was beneath consideration.”

I turn to look at Rafael, studying his hunched form. “Rafael, is this what you have been keeping from me all this time?”
Rafael lowers his head. His long bangs obscure his eyes, making it impossible to discern his emotions. His jaw works, but no words come out.
He gives a vague reply, something mumbled, something half–formed.
I clench my fist, my nails digging into my palm. “Despicable scoundrel!”
Electra also curses William a few times, her words sharp and colorful. Then she says, “We cannot stay silent for too long. Silence is the same as admitting guilt.” She looks at me, her eyes serious. “If this matter is not handled properly, your concert will not only be affected. It may also face a boycott. People will refuse to buy tickets. Sponsors will pull out. The venue might

cancel.”
Rafael speaks, his voice hoarse, barely above a whisper. “I will withdraw from the concert.” He lifts his head, and his eyes are hollow. “I do not want to implicate you.”
I cross the room and sit beside him on the sofa. I place my hand on his arm. “Rafael, do not be discouraged. This matter is not beyond resolution yet.” My voice is firm, steady. “We will find a way through this.”
I turn my head to look at Electra. An idea forms, sharp and
clear.
“Since that woman is so certain that the child is Rafael’s, why not have a paternity test done publicly? Let the results prove her innocence. Or rather, let them prove her lies.”
J
Electra’s eyes light up like someone has flipped a switch. “That is a brilliant idea!” She claps her hands together. “That way, they will not be able to smear Rafael anymore! Science does not lie. DNA does not forget.”
I think for a moment, turning the plan over in my mind. “Rafael is a public figure. It is not good for him to get into a fight with them online. Everything he says will be twisted. Every word will be used against him.”

account and confront them online? Let them argue with a stranger. Let them show their true colors to someone who is not Rafael.”
Electra’s eyes narrow. A slow, dangerous smile spreads across her face. “Talia, do you have a good idea?”
Since they planned this all along, since they plotted and schemed and took money and then broke promises, do not blame us for retaliating in kind. They chose this battlefield, so it’s only fair that we will choose the weapons.
