Chapter 134
“Don’t let go,” I pleaded, clutching the fabric between my fingers so
tightly my knuckles ached. “For fuck’s sake, don’t let go.”
But a particularly forceful shove from behind separated us. I felt his
hand slip from mine, and panic exploded in my chest like shattered
glass. Suddenly alone in the darkness, surrounded by strangers‘
bodies and unfamiliar scents, I felt my breath coming in short gasps,
my lungs burning as if I were drowning.
“Help!” I called out, my voice thin with fear. “Please, help me!” My hands flailed in front of me, trying to ward off unknown touches, my
skin crawling at the thought of being grabbed by a stranger.
“Over here,” came his reassuring voice. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
I followed the sound, hands outstretched, until I felt his fingers close
around mine again. Relief flooded through me, making my knees
weak. He guided me to what felt like a less crowded corner and
positioned himself beside me, a solid presence against the chaos.
“Time’s up!” the hostess announced brightly. “Everyone, remove your
blindfolds and meet your first dance partner!”

With shaking hands, I untied my blindfold, blinking as my eyes
adjusted to the light. A thin layer of cold sweat covered my skin,
making me shiver despite the warmth of the room. I turned to see
who my mysterious protector was, and my jaw dropped.
Allen stood beside me, his expression calm and slightly amused.
“You?” I breathed, unable to hide my surprise. My mind raced through
the implications, trying to make sense of his unexpected presence
and protection.
He nodded, removing his own blindfold with elegant fingers. “Me.”
My gaze darted across the room, immediately finding Drake. He stood
with Vera at his side, while Selina pressed herself against his chest,
her hand resting possessively on his arm. Drake’s eyes met mine, then
dropped to where Allen still held my hand. His gaze turned
dangerous, golden wolf–light flickering in his irises. Shit.
“All participants, please proceed to the dance floor with your first
partner!” the hostess called out cheerfully.
Allen offered his arm. “Shall we?”
I hesitated, my teeth grinding together as I felt Drake’s burning gaze
tracking my every move. My stomach twisted into knots of dread. But

refusing would cause a scene, so I nodded stiffly and placed my hand
on Allen’s arm, feeling like I was walking into a minefield.
As we moved onto the dance floor, I whispered through barely moving
lips, “Thank you. If it wasn’t for you, I might have been dragged off by
some drunk asshole.”
Allen’s smile was genuine. “You’re welcome, Elsa.”
I noticed several couples slipping away from the hall, heading toward
the private rooms upstairs. My stomach twisted with renewed dread
as I realized what was happening, bile rising in my throat. Jesus
Christ, they weren’t even trying to be subtle about it.
Suddenly, a man bumped into me hard from behind, knocking me
away from Allen. I stumbled, a startled curse escaping my lips. Before
I could regain my balance, strong arms caught me, and I found myself
pressed against a familiar chest.
Drake.
His scent enveloped me as he pulled me against him, simultaneously
shoving Selina toward Allen with barely concealed disgust. His
