Chapter 105
“Would you have believed me if I told you everything?” Andy’s face was grim, etched with the weight of harsh truths. “Honestly, the less you knew, the safer you were. The Triads have their claws deep in every corner of wolf society. They’ve planted people in Rocco’s closest circle, inside the medical center, everywhere you can imagine.”
I swallowed hard, the memories flooding back—every moment I’d felt eyes on me, every so-called accident that had almost ended my life. “And now?” I asked, my voice barely steady.
“Right now, they believe you’re dead. That’s our edge.” Andy’s tone sharpened with urgency. “But we can’t wait long. The moment they find out you survived, they’ll come hunting again. And in your current state…” His voice faltered, but I understood perfectly.
Without my wolf, I was exposed—fragile, vulnerable, and fully human.
“What’s your plan then?” I inquired cautiously, wary but desperate.
“Let me get you to your father. We’ll keep both of you safe until it’s secure. Until we find a way to unmask the Triads and bring them down.”
I weighed his proposal carefully. Could I truly trust Andy—the man who claimed to be my childhood friend yet had concealed so much from me? But what alternative did I have? Alone, wounded, stripped of my strength, I wouldn’t survive long if the Triads discovered I was still alive.
“Before I go anywhere with you,” I said firmly, “I need to see Harper.”
Andy’s brow furrowed. “That’s dangerous. If anyone spots you—”
“I won’t approach her directly,” I cut in. “I just need to know she’s alright. And I have to leave her a message—so she doesn’t spend the rest of her life wondering what happened to me.”
He hesitated, considering, then finally nodded. “Alright. We’ll make it work. I’ll help you disguise yourself. But no direct contact—we watch from a distance only.”
“Agreed.”
Hours later, cloaked in clothes I barely recognized—an oversized dark hoodie pulled low, sunglasses shielding my eyes, hair tucked beneath a cap—I stood across the street from Harper’s favorite coffee shop. The air was crisp, the city’s hum muted by my pounding heart. Andy hovered nearby, eyes scanning every shadow, every passerby.
