Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Kira’s Perspective

The news of Fiona’s sudden passing hit me like a crushing blow. I left the café feeling utterly defeated, the weight of hopelessness pressing down on my chest. Fiona had been my most promising lead—my best chance at uncovering the truth—but now she was gone, just like that. It seemed as if every person who might hold a piece of the puzzle about my father and Lyra was disappearing or dying before I could reach them. It was far too convenient to be mere coincidence.

“I’ll keep searching,” Ethan had assured me before we parted ways. “But we have to tread carefully. Someone clearly wants to keep this story buried.”

I had only managed a numb nod in response, my investigation once again grinding to a halt. With Fiona dead and her family unreachable, I was left with no way to confirm what had truly transpired between my father and Lyra. Returning to the Blackwood mansion felt like stepping into a cold, suffocating cage. The exhaustion from the endless setbacks weighed heavily on me, making it harder to find the strength to move forward.

I tried to distract myself by arranging a handful of wildflowers in a glass vase—a small gesture to bring a bit of life and color into the stark, chilly rooms of the house. The scent of the blossoms was faint but comforting, a fragile reminder of beauty amidst so much darkness. Suddenly, the front door slammed shut with a force that shook the windows, causing my heart to leap into my throat. I knew that sound well—Rocco was home, and he was furious.

“Where were you today?” His voice came sharply from right behind me, making me jump.

I turned slowly, forcing my expression to remain calm and unreadable. “I was just—”

“Don’t lie to me.” His words cut through the air like a blade. His blue eyes had darkened to nearly black, a dangerous warning sign I had learned to recognize all too well. “Did you go to Lyra’s resting place?”

My breath hitched. How could he possibly know? I’d been so careful. “I… I visited the sacred grounds a few days ago, yes. To pay my respects to Eleanor—”

Before I could finish, Rocco slammed his phone down on the counter with such force I feared the screen might shatter. “Explain this.”

I glanced down at the phone, and a chill ran through me. Displayed on the screen was a photo of Lyra’s grave—her once-pristine white marble headstone now defaced with what looked like deep scratches, as if something silver had been used to mar the sacred symbols etched into the stone.

“You think I did this?” I said, my voice rising in genuine shock. “Rocco, I would never—”

“Don’t act innocent.” He swiped to another picture, this one showing me standing near the grave. “You were there.”

“The photo must be doctored. I never—”

“This is about Derek, isn’t it?” Rocco’s tone shifted to an eerie calm. “You’re trying to get revenge for your father. You think ruining Lyra’s grave will somehow make things right?”

“No! I’m only trying to understand what happened!” Tears of frustration pricked my eyes. “Why would I damage a grave? That’s horrible!”

“Because you’re a Silverstone.” The way he spat my family name stung sharply. “Your father took Lyra from me. He tricked her, used her, and when she was carrying his pup, he killed her.”

“You don’t know that for sure,” I said, though my voice trembled. After everything I’d uncovered, certainty was a distant memory.

“I know enough.” Rocco’s hands trembled now, his voice wavering with emotion. “Do you know what he did to her? He seduced her when she was barely an adult. Promised her love, a family. Then, when she got pregnant, he took her to that medical center. She never came out alive.”
