Alpha's Regret After the Divorce by Christina novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Chris shifted uneasily in his seat, his brow furrowed with concern. “You know, Alpha Blackwood was standing outside your room the entire night,” he said quietly.

I cut him off before he could say more. “Is there any chance the test results could be wrong?” The question had been gnawing at me relentlessly ever since I’d heard them. Lucas had confirmed my diagnosis of Bondbreak Syndrome without hesitation. How was it possible for the tests to show nothing now?

Chris’s face grew serious, his eyes locking onto mine. “No, absolutely not.”

“But yesterday—”

He interrupted, his tone sharp yet thoughtful. “I was just as shocked as you were to see your wolf indicators drop so dramatically last night. Have you ever suffered from any prior illnesses?”

I shook my head firmly. “No, nothing like this before.”

He nodded slowly, as if piecing together a puzzle. “It seems to be a minor condition after all. You should be well enough to be discharged in a few days.”

After he left, I stared down at my trembling hands, my mind spinning in confusion. Only days ago, I had been told I was suffering from a fatal werewolf disorder. The symptoms were unmistakable—the relentless pain, the debilitating weakness, the sudden silver strands in my hair. Lucas’s tests had confirmed it beyond doubt.

Something was terribly wrong. Someone must have tampered with the results—I was certain of it. But who? Was it Kim, trying to make me look like a fraud, pretending to be ill for attention? Or was there a darker force at play, manipulating events from the shadows?

Whoever it was, I had no doubt they were linked to my father’s mysterious illness and Lyra’s tragic death. The fragments were beginning to form a pattern, but the full picture remained frustratingly out of reach.

My swirling thoughts were interrupted when Noah, Chris’s cousin and the manager of the medical center, came to check on me. Despite everything, I found myself relaxing slightly in his calm presence. Unlike the tense atmosphere I felt around Rocco, talking to Noah felt almost normal.

“How are you feeling today?” he asked gently, his voice filled with genuine concern rather than cold professionalism.

“As well as I can be,” I replied cautiously, not wanting to reveal too much.

“Because I was diagnosed with Bondbreak Syndrome weeks ago,” I explained quietly. “Dr. Bennett ran multiple tests. The symptoms are real—the pain, the weakness, my hair turning silver.” I pulled a strand forward, showing him the unmistakable streaks. “There’s no way I could have suddenly recovered overnight.”

Noah frowned, clearly troubled by what I said. “I’m sorry to hear that, but Bondbreak Syndrome is incredibly rare. Are you absolutely sure?”

“Yes, I’m certain,” I insisted. “That’s why these results don’t add up. I think someone’s tampered with them.”

His expression darkened with gravity. “That’s a very serious accusation, Kira. Falsifying medical records is grounds for immediate dismissal and could even lead to criminal charges.”

“I know,” I said, holding his gaze steadily. “I wouldn’t say it if I wasn’t convinced something’s wrong.”

He seemed to weigh my words carefully before reaching for my chart at the foot of the bed.

“I’ll investigate this,” he promised quietly. “And I’ll keep it discreet. If someone within my hospital is manipulating information, they will face severe consequences.”
