Chapter 106

“What are you doing up?” He frowns.

I shrug, “Can’t sleep.” I quietly say. “I’ll just go back inside.”

He doesn’t speak, he pats the spot beside him and nods at it. “You came out here for something, have a seat, I won’t bite.”

Have a seat. Not sit.

So he does know how to phrase his sentences correctly, and yet he wanted me to obey the pet commands that he was giving me. How woeful.

“Aeliana?”

I hesitate, lost in my own world for a moment. But I came here for some air, and potential stargazing. The pool has the best view, I’ve been here twice already and nothing melts my fears away like seeing how brightly the moon and stars glimmer in the water’s reflection.

There are multiple stars tonight, and I see a shooting star, I join him, not willing to waste the beautiful picture the moon goddess has painted for us tonight. I am supposed to feel cold, or at least regulated but sitting next to Kingston has me feeling much hotter out here than I did upstairs.

He doesn’t speak, he simply stares down at the water. The silence is more than awkward, I should have stayed upstairs. “Is being out here doing what you’d hoped it would?” He asks, finally breaking the silence.

“Yes,” I nod. I’m much calmer, I reckon my nightmares aren’t real, not anymore. “And you?”

“I’m thinking,” he nods to himself. “I don’t know what to do with Alpha Draven before I resort to war.” He sighs, the weight in his voice heavy. Was that why he was so quiet tonight? I noticed he wasn’t saying much at dinner but I thought it was because he didn’t have his girlfriend to keep him company. “We signed agreements and yet he keeps going back on his word, if this continues the people on the south end will turn into the lower end of the pack. I want all ends to be equally catered for, I don’t want them to feel I’ve abandoned them. Fuck, it’s almost as if he is trying to mess with me on purpose.”

“Could be,” I almost laugh. Alpha Draven is a miserable old bastard who likes to play mind games when he’s bored, and Kingston just happens to be his current target. He’ll keep it up until he ruins his calm golden Alpha reputation.

“Once is a coincidence,” he says. “Twice is a repetitive behaviour, and thrice is a call for war.”

“So what are you going to do about it?” I ask, knowing damn well he wouldn’t go to war for anything in the world.

He sighs again, “That’s what I’m here to figure out.”

“The pool has answers?” I gasp, “Wow, someone has been holding out on me in this house.”

He laughs, having missed the joke. “No, it’s calming out here. Best view of the sky and helps you think.”

I nod, “I agree with one of those statements.”

“Then I win,” he says, his gaze meeting mine. “You never agree with me.”

“Because you’re often wrong, Alpha Kingston.”

His lips pull into a smile, “I like that.”

“What?”

“The way you said my name just now.”

My head tilts, confused about what he’s on about. “Kingston?”

“Not like that,” he says with a slight head shake. “Sweeter.”

Oh.

Had my voice mellowed?

Fuck. I didn’t realise. I suck in breath, watching him before I say it again. “Kingston?” I whine, trying to imitate Audrey’s voice.

His smile falls, “Aeliana.” he warns
